I’m on my period and it’s so heavy and painful I’m lying here feeling like a bag of rubbish that’s been run over and left in the heat 😭

What nice things have happened to you recently? What is a small lovely thing you’ve done? I need some wholesomeness right now!

I got from checking in my luggage to the departure lounge at Manchester T2 in 15 minutes!! After months of worries and anxiety this was amazing - and our bag was first out at our destination - yay!!

We're tentatively planning a big-ish holiday for next year. We were supposed to go to NY in March 2020 for our 50th birthdays but it had to be rearranged twice obvs before we eventually cancelled it. We rebooked it for March this year then tested positive for covid on out pre-flight tests so couldn't go and had to claim on insurance. So we're looking at where we can book using the flight voucher and am quite excited at Boston and either Cape Cod or Rhode Island!

We will get our 50th birthday trip even if it will be 3 years late!

applegrumbles · 13/08/2022 16:38

That’s so lovely!

I need a swimsuit but had put off shopping for one as I’m not feeling great about my body. Just went to Next and tried a few on. One looked shit on the hanger but absolutely wonderful on - it’s forgiving and flattering in all the right places and I actually felt good about myself.

TakingTheLowRoad · 13/08/2022 16:40

After 19 years of putting others (DH and DC first) I am now exploring what makes me tick rather than focusing on what others think I should like/ do etc. This morning I went on my first wild swim with a bunch of people I didn’t know and it was GLORIOUS!

dudsville · 13/08/2022 16:46

@alwaysmovingforwards post made me tear up. What lovely wording that guy used.

My own contribution is so poor in comparison, but I have ice, lemons/limes and gin and tonic. We have air con in the bed room. When the sun goes down I will go up there, have a shower and sit in my bedroom alone with G&T and look at crap on my phone.

I was shopping for a holiday dress. Got chatting to a lovely lady who was trying to decide on one of two dresses for her 80th birthday.
The one she loved was in my mums favourite colour (she passed away recently). I said I liked that one but she decided she would buy the other one. because it was more practical. She went on to say that she could hardly afford one let alone two.
I bought her the one she loved as well.
She managed to track me down to my workplace and gave me flowers and a thank you card. And she looked gorgeous in her bright blue dress.
Hope you feel better soon CakeFlowersCakeFlowers

After a long day at work, I am home and cool.

Sprig1 · 13/08/2022 16:51

We are not long back from holiday and we saw lots of wild dolphins. They were swimming around our boat and jumping in the wake. A few even had babies. So lovely.

Lindasmt1 · 13/08/2022 16:54

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 13/08/2022 16:57

I just found a bottle of advocat not drunk at Christmas. I put lemonade with some and stuck a dollop of vanilla ice cream in. Best lemonade float ever!

I was in the local Tesco express yesterday, in the queue for batteries.
Old guy at the front was obviously and very visibly down on his luck and clearly not living well.
He was trying to buy a cheap sandwich and a can of coke, holding out a handful of shrapnel for the cashier.
After counting it she regrettably told him he didn't have enough for both, but did have enough for either item.
The old man looked really confused about what to do next.
Quick as a flash the man behind him stepped forward and gently said to him "hey my friend, we all need a helping hand sometimes, let's get ourselves a meal deal, I know you'd do the same for someone else".
The old man was shocked but really grateful.
They both went to the chiller cabinet at the side and picked some stuff, and he paid for it all at the self service and they left.
On my way out I saw them both sitting on the low wall eating sandwiches in the sunshine, smiling like they were sharing a joke.

It was such a nice moment I had an unexpected little cry as I drove off.

The world just isn't totally shit.
There are really good people everywhere and they walk amongst us.

Oh my god this made me well up. How lovely. Thank you so much for sharing!

Great thread @plantseverywhere , hope you're feeling better soon.
I was feeling groggy this morning ( not been sleeping in this heat, neither has my dog). Anyway, my granddaughter came for her usual visit - we normally play, build dens, etc, but obviously with the heat, neither of us had any energy.
We sat and devised a game for when the weather is cooler. We've called it Mermaids. Roll on the cooler weather !!
P.s - my dog is now on his cooling mat, and snoring 😴 yay.

yougotthelook

I finished with my DP two weeks ago after 4 years together.
It's a bit shit so I'm going to my best friends house tonight to stay over, she's making me her incredible spinach lasagne as it's my absolute favourite.

Can you get her to share the recipe?. Sounds lovely.

mbosnz · 13/08/2022 17:17

What a lovely thread, and I'm sure tearing up at @alwaysmovingforwards story, just what I needed to hear! Hmmm, what do I have to contribute? Nothing of huge moment, just DH on his first day of holidays, and he and we just kicking back and chilling, watching movies, reading books, drinking wine and coke. . . just enjoying all of each others company.

mbosnz · 13/08/2022 17:18

Oh, and I'm with you on the period from hell @plantseverywhere. It's pants, isn't it? Especially in this heat. I had my period for the last heatwave too! Family is joking that we have a unique heatwave predictor in the house!

Ladyof2022 · 13/08/2022 17:21

Something nice happened to me last night.

I was alone at an outdoor concert, waiting for the act to come back on stage, when a mid-forties woman came right into my personal space and started moaning to me about how her menopausal hot flushes were even less bearable in this heatwave.

I had no idea why she picked me out of 1,000 other women there to share this personal information with. I'd never seen her before in my life.

However as she continued to chatter it became clear that she thought I was about the same age as her, and that we could therefore commiserate with each other on how awful it is to be going through the menopause in this heat!

The good bit is, I am 64. And she must have thought I was about 20 years younger! I was so chuffed, it made my evening.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/08/2022 17:26
