Has anyone ordered a new car recently?

I ordered a new car (Ford Fiesta) through motorfinity (Blue Light Card discount) back in March and still don't have a build date due to the availability of parts and semiconductor chips etc. Has anyone else ordered a new car and what was the timescale? Beginning to get impatient!

September 21, due late March 23. I’m fed up with it.

Caspianberg · 08/08/2022 18:25

Yes. May 21, just got June 22

Hollyhead · 08/08/2022 18:28

I think new cars take about 18 months at the moment.

I am totally out of the loop as regards cars, new or otherwise.

No wonder old cars went up in price.

Is there a global political reason perhaps for new cars taking so long to arrive??

Fallulah · 08/08/2022 18:32

They are taking months at the moment, hence the price of used cars rocketing. It’s mainly to do with a shortage of chips!

Awakened22 · 08/08/2022 18:32

Ford had to stop selling Fiesta’s and Focus’s as some parts were made in Ukraine and the factory had to be be relocated so would expect longer wait times for these. Puma’s and Kuga’s I think are taking 5-6 months.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 08/08/2022 18:33

Yes. Was quoted anything from six months to a year for delivery. Went with one of the quicker ones, but it’s a worldwide issue apparently.

sanityisamyth · 08/08/2022 18:33

Ohhhh no reassuring :( I was told July/August when I ordered in March but there's absolutely no information from Ford. They've also said on their website they're not taking orders on fiestas anymore, and the specific model I ordered doesn't exist on the website!

The Ukraine aspect makes sense :(

Ordered one in October 2021, supposed to get it before March, still waiting with no updated delivery date given

Oh wow. These are long times. I think the information I was given wasn't exactly reliable ...

My mum ordered a fiesta last August and is being told it will be made next month. She needs an auto so no chance of a second hand one.

Ordered in January, took delivery on 27th July. At one point they got our hopes up and said it may arrive at the end of April, but nothing doing.

Beebumble2 · 08/08/2022 18:55

We tried to buy new recently, Ford told us ‘sometime next year ‘. VW, for our other option, advised not to bother! Ford managed to get us a second hand almost new Kuga at the spec we wanted. Only one available 200 miles away, they delivered it and the deal was done!
Even the salespersons seemed dependent.

That's still seven months :( I'm not feeling very confident that it'll be here any time soon. I've tried cancelling it with motorfinity and having some pressure to keep the order. Not sure what to do now!

I ordered a Ford Puma in Feb, they said June but to expect it April/May. At the end of June we hadn't heard anything so called them and they had no update for me. So I went to Peugeot they had an electric 208 on its way and I picked it up 2 weeks later and asked Ford to cancel the puma. A few days later Ford rang to say The car had arrived!

LondonQueen · 08/08/2022 19:00

The lead times have been ridiculous now for the last 12 months or so. I bought my most recent car from Cazoo. Usually buy new but needed a car and couldn't wait.

Excellent!! Were there any penalties for the car you'd ordered but then didn't need?

BMW - ordered end of March and will be delivered next week. They did contact us after two months to tell us they’d scrapped the model we’d ordered and therefore had to pay for the next model up.

It is getting stupid. I'm borrowing a car from a friend at the moment so have got transport. I might just buy this car from her (she's said about selling it at some point) and keep this one for a year whilst the new car issues settle down if they ever do

Oh sneaky! I have a horrible feeling that could happen with mine as it doesn't exist on the Ford website anymore.

I’m not the only person I know this has happened to. Mini did exactly the same thing to a friend of mine AND offered a much delayed delivery date on the new car 😡

Loveinacandle · 08/08/2022 19:11

I ordered a new Toyota in Feb and should have it next week. I’m not even sure I like it anymore!

sanityisamyth · 08/08/2022 19:11

Very tempted just to cancel it having read all these (thank you to everyone who has replied). Definitely not getting talked in to an even more expensive car as this was right on my limit of affordability really.
