Has anyone ordered a new car recently?

I ordered a new car (Ford Fiesta) through motorfinity (Blue Light Card discount) back in March and still don't have a build date due to the availability of parts and semiconductor chips etc. Has anyone else ordered a new car and what was the timescale? Beginning to get impatient!

Ordered an Octavia 2 weeks ago.
Been told 12-18 months, also Ukraine issues.
DH ordered a new VW Transporter 2 years ago. Was told 2 years. Now being told 18 months.

Another 18 months? On top of the 2 years? Wow!

I ordered a hybrid Toyota in Sept and took delivery in March so although it would have been impacted by general ongoing worldwide delays and shortages it was before the Ukraine war would have had more impact.

Safer
More reliable
Warranty
Known history
Better fuel efficiency
More technology

Etc

I had my last car from new and had her for 10 years before she was written off (not my fault). I will keep another new one until it dies so I don't really care about the depreciation.

Bollocks. I bought a 2 YO car a few months ago. I walked into a car supermarket that had hundreds of cars available, picked one and drove it away a couple of days later after it had been serviced.

Was 20% cheaper than the same car brand new and identical except it had 15k miles on the clock. Absolutely no reason to wait months or years for a car if you need one now and no detriment to getting one a couple of years old.

Why do people wait for new cars and not just get a second hand one? Even with the price increase they must still be marginally cheaper?

I guess it depends on circumstances. I’d decided to keep my previous Car (I had from new but kept for five years instead of
my usual 3) for longer and then sell and buy a fairly new second hand one. But, with the huge demand for second hand cars at the min (as there’s no way to get a new one quickly if you’re desperate) I ended up selling my 5 year old car and did pretty well out of it. It only had 20,000 miles on the clock due to covid and Mat leave and was in super condition. The dealer gave me twice the final payment I’d made a year before, and then added another £1500 on the day as prices had risen further. This meant I could put the max deposit down, put a few grand in the bank to pay this car off in a few years and also only pay £120 a month for my lovely new car. A new one worked out very well for me 😊

I ordered a Kia in March 22 and at the moment delivery date is Feb 23. It’s a work car, so I am currently keeping the pool car I have. But it’s annoying as I didn’t get to choose so I have to pay whatever tax rate it comes with. Loads of people at my work are having the same issue.

Tesla make their own chips which is why there is less of a wait on them.

That's interesting about Teslas. I definitely can't afford a Tesla but I do keep seeing a lot of them on the roads recently! Good luck with getting your car!!
