44, pretty happy I got it without googling, I thought it was going to be one of those I would have no chance with.

Plantstrees · 13/09/2022 20:59

@InMySpareTime It was his nationality that gave it away along with the occupation - again a pattern of words in the first sentence. It is a subject I am familiar enough with to know the name (although I am not a huge fan of his work) which obviously helps. I doubt there are many Canadian-born American people that would fit the letter pattern. Last night I read a thread on here about how autistic people recognise patterns that others can't see - I am autistic so I guess it helps.

Didn't manage today's in 2 because it is not my subject, but still with help of Google I got there in 4.

I solved today's Redactle (#160) in 4 guesses with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2022 21:00

I did it in 3 (with google)... it was likely that one of the nationalities was American, as there were a couple of '[].A.' , probably L.A. If so, it had to be the second one because it was 'a [10 letter]-[4 letter, probably born]' ... not 'an'. Tried thinking of what would have the right number of letters for the next something and something. Tried 'designer'.... then architect seemed like it would fit, but I didn't enter it.So, putatively "-born American architect and designer"... I didn't know any of those with the right number of letters so did an exact search for that and got the hit.

InMySpareTime · 13/09/2022 21:05

But why did you see XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX and think "Canadian-American"?
Why not Scottish, or Ghanaian, or Honduran or Japanese etc? I tried a lot of nationalities the right length before getting Canadian. I was lucky with American but Wikipedia is fairly America-centric generally.

@InMySpareTime I think the phrase 'Canadian-born American' is fairly unique due to their status as 'North Americans' and like you say, Wikipedia is very America-centric.

Lucky second guess (although I had spotted a big clue in text) gave me the first word.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/09/2022 10:53

The first word was the only one of 14 characters I could think of that fitted with the clue I spotted. There are other clues in the text to point towards the second.

Because I play on the laptop, I can't see how many characters there are in each word - I can only guess because of the length of the black rectangle. I'm at an unfair advantage, clearly Grin
