What is your going to bed routine?

Not your beauty/teeth brushing thing, but things you do downstairs before going to bed at night?

Mine are:

Bring any laundry that's drying outside on the clothes airer in to the kitchen.

Put food scraps from dinner into the food caddy. And any other rubbish in kitchen is in bin.

Check back door is locked.

Open washing machine door and powder drawer to prevent mould/smells.

Make sure the dish cloth and washing up sponge have been wrung out in boiling water and are drying.

Get myself a large glass of water with lots of ice.

The washing machine thing is a little tip if you want it.

Make sure all the doors and windows are locked and ,errr , that's it really.

OnceAnElephant · 29/07/2022 19:04

I'm in bed as soon as I get home from work! Though I do make sure I have a bottle of water with me.

mynameiscalypso · 29/07/2022 19:06

My DH checks the door is locked. We turn the lights out. That's about it.

Springblossom2022 · 29/07/2022 19:07

I was surprised how few of my friends don't brush their teeth before bed - I thought everyone did that 😂 My mum always made all of us brush our teeth before bed so it's just habit for us.

We've usually done all the dishes/sorting of washing a few hours before bed so bedtime routine is quite straightforward. Feed our lovely gerbils and have some cuddles with them if they're feeling social, grab a glass of cordial, brush teeth and into bed.

Springblossom2022 · 29/07/2022 19:08

Oh, and my partner always checks the doors are locked 😂 not something to forget!

Skinnermarink · 29/07/2022 19:11

Put water out for badgers. Put peanuts out for badgers. Watch badgers.

put scraps out for foxes. Watch foxes.

make up formula for DS, put in fridge because he drinks them cold, the little weirdo. put his clothes out for nursery.

teeth etc. Ponder if can be arsed to do tonner/sérum/might cream. Invariably can’t. Ponder if can be arsed to initiate sex with DH. Invariably can’t.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 19:12

Put dinner stuff away and dishwasher on

Set off the hoover

Lock up

DH does the above if he’s home, while I:

brush my teeth

sit in bed

wait for DH to come up and put the telly on

watch something on telly then put on The Office (US) to fall asleep to

DH then checks if I’m asleep and turns off the TV

🤣🤣 I’m not joking. Sounds absolutely ridiculous written down haha!

Whiskers4 · 29/07/2022 19:25

Starts by giving the cats their supper and fresh water 😂. Clean teeth. After that checking doors are locked, even though I know DH does this an hour later. I top up water and locate current book I'm reading before going to bed. Also, I often find myself looking at my two boys (cats) who always go out and crash outside after supper. Obviously I'm a cat person.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 29/07/2022 19:29

Take my medication, pick up phone/book, leave DH watching tv downstairs, say good night to DDog.
Go upstairs, shower or bath (read a bit of my book if having a bath), put face cream on (fruitless exercise 🙄), get into bed, read for a bit. That’s it!

KittyCatsby · 29/07/2022 19:32

Give cat its treats ( they would not let us go to bed without )
Ask dh if he has locked up ( check he has ! ) so shouldn't bother asking 😂
Check litter tray
Check cat food
Do bathroom stuff
Get in bed , put on night cream
Read
Put in earplugs ( dh snorer )
Switch of light
Zzzzzz ( hopefully )

Great post btw .

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 29/07/2022 19:35

I say good night to DH, confirm that he's now 'in charge', say good night to teenagers confirm they need to stop talking, perform my ablutions and go to bed.

Teenagers however take this as a sign for a bedtime chat Hmm

DoingJustFine · 29/07/2022 19:48

Empty dishwasher if it's finished.

Wipe down kitchen surfaces.

Get something out to defrost for tomorrow's dinner.

Feed cat her 11pm ham 🙄

Make cup of bedtime tea.

Say goodnight to DH.

Cleanse/tone/moisturise. Teeth. Maybe shower.

Get into bed, drink tea, watch Big Bang Theory till I crash out.

A bit disappointing that you stay up to watch the badgers and foxes but poor little DS can go unwatched while he scrabbles about trying to get his icecold formula from the fridge.

Could you not at least set up a camera so you can review it in the morning? 😁

Namechange192727171 · 29/07/2022 19:50

7.30 pm - put baby to bed, I usually have to lie with her until 8

8 - wash DD1 hair

8.30 - shower

9- watch tv

11- lock up brush teeth then sleep

TheCanyon · 29/07/2022 20:03

if the cats still out then have a quick look for him or open the shed for him.
lock both doors
check living room for any tasty teddies/socks the dog might eye up
say goodnight to the dog
feed the gecko
Done.

bellsbuss · 29/07/2022 20:10

Plump sofa cushions in which ever room DH and I sat in.

🤣🤣 he’s fast asleep then. He’s waited on the next day. Genuinely will only drink cold milk. The night is for wildlife 😅 no ‘poor’ DS or scrabbling here.

yes, would love to set up a camera, must get round to it, then maybe would go to bed earlier.

Creameggs223 · 29/07/2022 20:16

Check every thing is off lock doors brush teeth get in bed.

Bloodybridget · 29/07/2022 20:25

Lock front door
Get glass of water for self and DP from kitchen - she is almost always still watching television when I go to bed. Leave hers on stairs
Check if phone needs charging, plug in if it does
Go upstairs with water, book and tablet
Clean teeth
Into bed with great relief

BorisJohnsonsHair · 29/07/2022 20:26

Put empty wine bottles in the kitchen. Put crisp bags and chocolate wrappers in the bin.

Natsku · 29/07/2022 20:26

Most things get done long before bedtime so wouldn't class them as part of my pre-bed routine. I'm the last one to bed so after I've had my 3rd cup of night time tea (I am very routine with that, 3 cups of night time tea every night) I double check doors are locked, go to the toilet, get my water bottle, make sure all the lights are off and no chargers left plugged in and tv switched off properly rather than left on standby, then go upstairs to brush teeth and go to bed.

cptartapp · 29/07/2022 20:28

3 cups of night time tea? Three?! I drink very little after 6pm yet am still up to the loo in the early hours every single night without fail.
With 3 cups of tea I'd spend more time out of bed than in it 😆

Antarcticant · 29/07/2022 20:29

Have a cigarette. Check doors are locked, lights off, relevant things switched off at mains. Get myself a glass of water. Go to bed.

Go back downstairs five minutes later because I can't be sure I locked the back door.

Go back downstairs again because I think I forgot to unplug my laptop ...

Menopause brain is such fun.

Ragwort · 29/07/2022 20:29

Don't think I really have a routine, hate doing housework or anything 'domestic' after dinner.
Say good night to DH (we sleep separately Grin), wash face, clean teeth, read Mumsnet for a bit and hopefully drift off. No doubt wake at 3am ... read a bit more and hopefully sleep some more.

MintJulia · 29/07/2022 20:36
