I'm going to the cinema tomorrow evening... on my own!

Been abroad on my own several times, eat out alone ALL the time but somehow never had the nerve to do this... was going to see the live show earlier this year in London but it was too problematic. Mum isn't interested, no partner, can't be arsed trying to organise friends... so I've booked a ticket for tomorrow night and I shall sit glued to the screen in the dark with my black cherry ice cream!

(It's Prima Facie with the phenomenal Jodie Comer. I cannot bloody wait!)

Enjoy it! I do it often and actually prefer it to going with other people tbh

Hbh17 · 28/07/2022 21:37

Completely normal, most of us do it regularly and often preferable to going with someone else, so what's the big deal?

FuckMeHesFitAintHe · 28/07/2022 21:40

Well it's one of those things that everyone on MN claims to do (not saying they don't) but I never know anyone that does in real life!

My friend did this the other day! I feel like it’s the one place I actually would be fine going alone since there’s no talking anyway

LocalHobo · 28/07/2022 21:41

My local cinema does half price tickets for solo attendance on Mondays. It is very popular and an ideal thing to do alone.

Angelik · 28/07/2022 21:41

Bliss!

Rainallnight · 28/07/2022 21:42

Ooh enjoy! I haven’t done this in ages but it’s one of my favourite things.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/07/2022 21:42

I love cinema alone.

Have fun (take a fan)

Cyberworrier · 28/07/2022 21:42

It's one of those things that if you've not done it before, it feels strange or scary, but once you do it you realise there's no big deal and it's great being able to just do solo!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/07/2022 21:44

I did this last Sunday, surprising amount of lone viewers, same theatre show and it was excellent

leccybill · 28/07/2022 21:44

My local cinema is showing this for £10 and I'm very tempted!

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 28/07/2022 21:44

I used to do it a lot during the week when I worked for myself! Was great to have the cinema all to myself or maybe 2-3 other people, often on their own too. I feel a bit more self conscious about it in the evening - but mainly because I’d worry about bumping into my ex (On a date with some young beautiful thing Envy ). If I could guarantee he wouldn’t be there I’d go! Enjoy your ice cream and the film!

Leftbutcameback · 28/07/2022 21:50

It's a great thing to do, and during semi-lockdown I went to see a broadcast of The Red Shoes by myself. It was full and an amazing atmosphere. I don't think I was the only one crying. Have a fab time, and hopefully it'll be the start of more solo visits!

EmmaH2022 · 28/07/2022 21:51

I do this
bumped into my sister once 😂

i'm unsure about Prima Facie. i love JC but not sure if it's going to be too depressing.

Ah, such a classic!

EmmaH2022 · 28/07/2022 21:54

I just had a look and all shows are now £22.99, for some reason I thought later showings were cheaper.

sorry to digress, OP.

I often see ballet at the cinema and see lots of ladies alone.

Mindymomo · 28/07/2022 21:55

We have an Everyman Cinema near us, they have sofas for 2 and single seats. I went to see the Railway children last Sunday, there was only singles there.

notprincehamlet · 28/07/2022 21:55

Have fun! (I prefer going to the cinema alone not least because I get to watch the credits right to the end without having to endure loud huffing and dramatic watch checking)

ChaToilLeam · 28/07/2022 21:59

Good for you! I often go to the cinema or concerts on my own. I don’t want to miss something good just because others are maybe not interested.

Iliketeaagain · 28/07/2022 21:59

Oh lovely. I love going to the cinema on my own, 2 hrs of peace, no having to share the popcorn, and a film I actually want to see rather than some movies for juniors rubbish that I take the kids too.

Enjoy!

littlefireseverywhere · 28/07/2022 21:59

I just saw Prima Facie this evening, it’s excellent! Not depressing at all but very emotive.

Veryverycalmnow · 28/07/2022 22:01

I do this and sometimes take myself for solo lunch. It's not a big deal and feels really luxurious!

sashagabadon · 28/07/2022 22:03

I go alone a lot. Love it!

mrsjackrussell · 28/07/2022 22:04

I was mesmerised by Prima Facie. Was very good.
