I'm going to the cinema tomorrow evening... on my own!

Been abroad on my own several times, eat out alone ALL the time but somehow never had the nerve to do this... was going to see the live show earlier this year in London but it was too problematic. Mum isn't interested, no partner, can't be arsed trying to organise friends... so I've booked a ticket for tomorrow night and I shall sit glued to the screen in the dark with my black cherry ice cream!

(It's Prima Facie with the phenomenal Jodie Comer. I cannot bloody wait!)

I’ve just booked Sunday 3pm. I won’t say where. Don’t want company thank you very much ❤️

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 29/07/2022 00:19

Bugger. Thought it was this weekend but it’s next! Not a problem - no-one I need to explain and rearrange everything with 🤗

Furries · 29/07/2022 00:21

I live on my own and have been abroad numerous times on my own. Not sure why, but have never been to the cinema on my own yet!

I need to rectify this as tickets are £3.50 at a cinema fairly near me. Will be checking their schedule for future viewings!

IfCanCanICan · 29/07/2022 00:39

Oh you'll love it OP. I go on my way own 9 times out of 10. I have an unlimited pass, so I go often in the day time. Lots of other lone viewers in the day times. Enjoy!

AuntTwacky · 29/07/2022 00:45

Confusedwhat's the big deal

Toosadtocomprehend · 29/07/2022 00:49

Enjoy and you don’t have to share your pic and mix 😘

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 29/07/2022 00:53

Oooh I love a solo cinema trip. Last film I saw solo was Spider-Man: No Way Home and I had the best time. Enjoy!

wednesday32 · 29/07/2022 00:58

I went to see this at my local Everyman. Went on my own and had a cocktail and ordered some nice food. It was a lovely evening and the show was amazing!!! You’ll have a great time and do it again I promise!

GoodJanetBadJanet · 29/07/2022 01:06

I love going to the cinema by myself.
I know a few people who won't entertain the idea of going anywhere by themselves though, I just don't get it!
Have fun!

Thiskidcanbounce · 29/07/2022 01:13

I’m going to see this on my own next week op! I recently did this for the first time, went to London to watch a west end show by myself (from up North). And it was great! Something I’d definitely do again.
How did you enjoy Prima Facie? I love JC, think she is an amazing actress so looking forward to seeing it

Herbaceousborder · 29/07/2022 01:23

I've an unlimited entrance ticket for my local cinema so will frequently go alone as it's just not possible to get someone else to go to so many showings.

Hbh17 · 28/07/2022 21:37

Completely normal, most of us do it regularly and often preferable to going with someone else, so what's the big deal?

If by"us" you mean the general population, I disagree. Most people do not go to the cinema alone.

Friffle · 29/07/2022 11:34

never had the nerve to go to the cinema alone. what the what?

Nadal · 29/07/2022 11:38

I did it once when I was bored and had no one to go with, many years ago in childless singledom.

It was oddly liberating!

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 29/07/2022 11:43

Me too! Can’t wait. I do it all the tIme though.

Newnormal99 · 29/07/2022 11:46

I went to cinema on my own for first time yesterday as well. Was 1 couple in there and one other solo.

Was fine! I had a rare day all to myself and just wanted to please myself all day.

Again I have done weekends away and theatre plenty of times but never cinema.

I love going to the cinema on my own! You are all sitting in a line, and not talking so I don't see it as a particularly social outing anyway, and genuinely can't understand why some people are so weird about it

Leftbutcameback · 30/07/2022 12:17

I think people who say they've never seen people at the cinema on their own might just not have noticed us! We might be sat further back, or sat next to a group of it's a busy showing.

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal cheeseboard and cinema is now my plan for my next birthday!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/07/2022 15:34

Enjoy, @Leftbutcameback! I always do.

Deathraystare · 30/07/2022 15:35

I used to go all the time on my own. My local used to do a double bill. Used to be hardly anyone else in there, but if there was they would sit right behind me!!!

Now I regularly go with a friend and we go when it is cheapest, plus we are 'old ladies' so go when they have their 'silver' days.

Still have fond memories of solo viewing, except for the 'sheep' behind me!
