Move to Tyneside coastal

Looking to move to Tynemouth/Whitley Bay/ cullercoats/north shields area. Can anyone advise where would be the best areas to be would be. We don't need to be near schools but do need 4 bedrooms so those sorts of properties seem to come up more rarely. I keep an eye on rightmove but nothing has come up yet that we like/can afford. Need some garden out the back too. Budget is top end of £550k.

Thanks for those - I'd seen the middle one (kitchen on the small side) but not the others on my rightmove search. Are they all in nice areas - would you recommend?

Sorry had seen the first one but ruled it out as completely open plan downstairs

Yes, Whitley Lodge, Monkseaton, Valley Gardens, Briar Dene all nice areas of Whitley Bay

Is there anywhere other than rightmove where properties may be advertised?

The 'best' one is Tynemouth but they are all nice. There are some lovely big wide streets.

I'd like to be in easy walking distance of the metro and the front and to be able to park all my vehicles on on my own property.

DisforDarkChocolate · 28/07/2022 17:25

Your best bet is to register with the local estate agents and keep in regular friendly contact. They love to sell without doing much work.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/07/2022 17:26

Walking distance to Whitley Bay beach would be my dream. I love the whole coastline, but find Tynmouth has a pretentiousness that WB doesn't. Probably unfounded Grin

MVision · 28/07/2022 17:27

Yes car parking can be an issue in the area. Agree close to metro and front would be ideal.

Think N Shields is a bit of a shithole to avoid

durellh · 28/07/2022 17:37

the last one is gorgeous

MVision · 28/07/2022 18:38

The house prices are so crazy for nice bits of the coast.

North shields is a big area (comparatively speaking) and as such there are really nice parts and parts not so nice.

You'll sometimes find estate agents labelling houses as North Shields East to highlight the difference 🤣

The closer to tynemouth the better though

Thefailinghousewife · 28/07/2022 18:48

Was about to say don’t discount North Shields. The area boardering Tynemouth is really lovely, however it’s mostly terraces so garden and own parking may be a struggle

The market has been crackers here. Some properties haven't made it to the market and have been sold privately via Facebook. Sometimes by people just asking if anyone is thinking of selling.

Tbh I think the market is slowing down. Not dramatically but it isn't as crazy as is was a year ago.

There just aren't many larger properties coming on the market either particularly detached ones. Many people are just renovating aswell.

Just keep searching OP

MVision · 28/07/2022 22:09

@Soapboxqueen you are totally right. Anything really nice that comes up is snapped up. We will keep looking

No garden though, OP

MVision · 29/07/2022 21:21

@Bernadinetta i know that’s the downside to living close to the sea and what puts me off paying that much for a house (we have a dog so need even a smallish garden). It’s the payoff of we can live in the north east in a much bigger house on our budget but yearn to live on the coast (lifestyle there appeals more).
anyone live coastal and not like it?

Is South Shields improving does anyone know - obviously get a lot more for your money there

I've pretty much lived on the coast my whole life. It's windier generally but I find being further inland a bit claustrophobic.

I wouldn't discount Cullercoats either.

MVision · 29/07/2022 21:43

Yeah love cullercoats as well - always seems to be something to compromise to live by the coast - no garden, dreadful parking, v few detached houses. But been down there today and just love the vibe.
