Move to Tyneside coastal

Looking to move to Tynemouth/Whitley Bay/ cullercoats/north shields area. Can anyone advise where would be the best areas to be would be. We don't need to be near schools but do need 4 bedrooms so those sorts of properties seem to come up more rarely. I keep an eye on rightmove but nothing has come up yet that we like/can afford. Need some garden out the back too. Budget is top end of £550k.

Be careful with Cullercoats it has a bit of an antisocial behaviour issue. The local community are always working to sort it out. I live in Whitley Bay so am biased but it's lovely

MVision · 30/07/2022 09:25

@Soapboxqueen thanks for sharing the link - it needs so much work that house though so think would be beyond us budget wise. Lots of garden and space though

There have been a number of issues in Cullercoats recently which would put me off!

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 30/07/2022 19:03

South Shields actual town centre is pretty grim but it has as some good shops and big supermarkets. The seafront has had a lot of work done in recent years and is great. Is renting an option for a hit so you can get a feel for the different areas?

Think N Shields is a bit of a shithole to avoid

I live in North Shields 😂
Must admit, some parts are an absolute dive but the same can be said for every area.
I grew up in Monkseaton/Whitley Bay and would love to move back.
Tynemouth is lovely but very expensive and how many bloody cafes/restaurants does one high street need?!

MVision · 30/07/2022 22:29

@FlamingoDust what are the recent issues at cullercoats?

@FlamingoDust what are the recent issues at cullercoats?

Big groups of youths from other areas getting the metro in and heading to the beach in the evening to drink, have BBQS/fires, leave litter, broken glass, being destructive on the metro trains/local area, abusive to local residents/police.

@Bernadinetta what a shame - things like that can really spoil an area

Presume you’ve tried the other portals, On the Market (agency owned) Zoopla, Boomin etc

Darktimes35 · 01/08/2022 14:02

We’ve been toying with moving to the North East as we’d love to live by the coast. We live in quite an expensive area of the south east so was surprised by how expensive the north east is now. Could anyone advise of nice areas of North Shields? Not worried about schools but would like nice friendly areas.

Finallybreathingout · 01/08/2022 14:03

DH is from South Shields and finds the new popularity of North Shields quite funny. I wouldn’t live in South Shields personally but the area around Westoe Village has some
lovely houses with gardens. Those on Marine Park and the seafront are cheap for what you get compared to Tynemouth but also not big on gardens.

Nothing to add other than I am jealous!
Love the NE coastline.

MVision · 01/08/2022 18:01

@JosephineGH are those nice areas? I suppose we were thinking easier access to public transport for teens and more they can walk to in the typical coastal areas but happy to look outside as not sure the house we need will come up very often

Morpeth is lovely and a short commute into Newcastle by train. Also everything is so accessible because of the metro. My Dd lived in the centre of Newcastle and often jumped on the metro to the beach.

MVision · 01/08/2022 19:24

Morpeth can be a bit cliquey I’ve heard - bit nice houses😀

17 mins to Whitley Bay on metro

15 mins to Monument in the city centre with all the pubs/clubs/cinemas/restaurants

bit out of your price range but I would want to live nearer the city for teenagers

MVision · 01/08/2022 19:26

What is Benton like? Imagine there are some rough bits. The house is lovely though

Hi I live in North Shields 😂

Definitely some areas to avoid but that’s just like everywhere, i grew up in Whitley Bay and much prefer where I live now, Whitley Bay has had lots of money spent on the seafront but the derelict bars really lower the tone. Tynemouth is lovely but so busy on weekends as is Cullercoats.

Most of the old pubs etc in Whitley bay have been or are being turned into housing.

I suspect most of the small hotels and B&Bs will go the same way.

Give it a few years and It'll all be residential... Or Airbnb 🤣

Soapboxqueen · 01/08/2022 20:16

OP I think you need to decide if you want to be within walking distance of the coast, a short drive eg 5-10 minutes or just want it a closer option eg 20-30 minutes because that'll make a vast difference to where you'll need to look and what's available.

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/125374112

I love that house! I really like that boxy 60s look and mid century furnishing. Sadly I am not looking to move to Tyneside but that house would be my dream.
