I cracked and bought a new fountain pen

It's a beautiful colour and writes with a lovely, smooth, fine line; just what I wanted for my academic year planner.

I do not, however, need a new pen. I have 3 already. Help me!!

Oh lovely. It's good to crack sometimes.

What type did you buy?

cakeandchampagne · 26/07/2022 14:54

It sounds like you are looking for sources for a fifth fountain pen.
Smile

FreezyFreezy · 26/07/2022 14:54

It is beautiful though. Look at it. How could I resist?!
Please tell me that I'm not alone in my stationery addiction!

A fifth fountain pen... Must resist!

I bought a Hong Dian Rainbow Forest extra fine. It is a little scratchy with drier ink but nothing that I can't live with.

I have that notebook!! I love stationery. I have dreadful handwriting though, so can never justify a fancy pen. It looks lovely 😊

FreezyFreezy · 26/07/2022 15:04

The notebook is a paperblanks one from Waterstones. I since found it on sale on Amazon for less money but 🤷 I already wrote in it!

Oh sorry, I thought you said love not have! Whoops

LadyHelenaJustina · 26/07/2022 19:26

So you have four?

I'd consider that an amateur in the sport of unnecessary pens. I have more than I'd care to admit to my husband. My particular favourites are Lamy and Waterman.

Top tip: don't ever look at the range of pens and cartridges available at Cultpens.com

Crabbyboot · 26/07/2022 19:33

🤤 I love a good fountain pen. I'm sad that I have lost mine and it feels too extravagant to replace it. Your writing is lovely!

FreezyFreezy · 26/07/2022 20:03

Thank you @Crabbyboot ! I would be gutted if I lost any of mine.

Yes, @LadyHelenaJustina just the 4 pens :( unfortunately, I am skint and can't afford to feed my habit as often as I'd like. I have bought both dc a lamy fountain pen each - I could justify that as a necessary school purchase! - and dh brought home a bic disposable fountain pen a while ago but I hate it!

Fountain pens are great! Not only do they write nicely but they're almost art in themselves.

I keep a diary(boring!) and write in a lovely notebook which OH bought me (he knows I like writing so buys pretty notebooks with quality paper for me)

Need fresh blotting paper though.

AlternativelyWired · 26/07/2022 20:14

I can only write neatly with a fountain pen as that's how I was taught. Love them.

CountFoscoslittlewhitemice · 26/07/2022 20:20

I love fountain pens. I was taught to write with one. I have lots as my son works for a company that designs and manufactures lots of different makes. I never say no to another one.

I also love the Paperblanks books.

Divebar2021 · 26/07/2022 20:20

I like the Kaweco pens which you can get for twenty odd quid. They have some nice coloured plastic ones which are lightweight and good for travel and obviously not a precious as the more expensive ones available. They do good metal bodied ones which are pleasingly weighty. I use them for my pen pals ( writing paper being another unnecessary expenditure )

LadyHelenaJustina · 26/07/2022 21:51

@FreezyFreezy I haunt EBay looking for beautiful pens. I find that using one helps put me in the right place for writing stories and anything creative. Definitely not fountain pens for work, though; the Lamy Studio (with the clip that looks like a propellor) is perfect for that.

LadyHelenaJustina · 26/07/2022 21:59

I’ve just ordered a cheap Baoer to see how it compares. Has anyone bought one of these before? They seem to have good reviews.

FreezyFreezy · 26/07/2022 22:12

I looked at Kaweko pens when searching for something for my dc. I don't remember why but settled on the Lamy Safari and they like them.

I keep a diary too, simply because I enjoy writing and can't think of anything else to write about! I would love it if a family member could get me free stationery: dh used to work for a large stationery company but was made redundant after the 1st lockdown, sadly. He used to bring all sorts of things home!

I learned to write with a pencil and Biro, I think, but distinctly remember preferring a fountain pen at high school. Not sure when or why I moved away from them. Creativity and ideas do seem to flow more easily from a nicer pen, definitely.

This might be the ideal thread to ask if anyone might recommend a founatin pen for a 12yo who has recently discovered that she prefers them over a biro or gel type pen? (Not too pricey though as a step up from the 69p one she found in Home Bargains!)

FreezyFreezy · 27/07/2022 00:26

I got these (one red, one pink) for my 10 & 11 y olds: www.amazon.co.uk/LAMY-Safari-Fine-Nib-Fountain/dp/B000UTO0XO/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=32Y4SI2SFZ0E3&keywords=lamy+fountain+pen+fine+nib&qid=1658877754&sprefix=lamy+fountain+pen%2Caps%2C95&sr=8-9

The triangular grip helps them hold it properly to avoid inky hands; the nibs are replaceable for if they get broken and if you buy a converter you have an almost endless choice of ink colours.

Only 3?

Amateur.

Amateur.

Only 3 for now, yes. I won't own up to the number of other pens I have; or the size of my notebook collection that I haven't yet written in.

Ok so I haven’t obsessed about fountain pens since I was at primary school and I was very jealous of my brother’s Parker, but now I feel like buying a nice one and writing, thanks to this post OP. Your pen and handwriting are lovely ☺️

FreezyFreezy · 27/07/2022 01:26

That's great @Lovelycheesegromit I hope that you do and that you don't regret it <3

I expected beautiful flowing copperplate script, OP. Not cursive! Shock

Nice pen, though. What brand is it? I like a waterman pen, which is what I use most.
