I cracked and bought a new fountain pen

It's a beautiful colour and writes with a lovely, smooth, fine line; just what I wanted for my academic year planner.

I do not, however, need a new pen. I have 3 already. Help me!!

That's a beautiful pen 😍

I have a lovely pen from a Canadian brand that writes like a rollerball but uses fountain pen cartridges and I love it unreasonably. It's only a pen..... but!

DeborahVance · 12/08/2022 21:16

@FreezyFreezy I've been thinking about this pen and finally bought one. I LOVE it. I got a dark green one and it actually makes my handwriting half way nice.

I've got a few fountain pens but this is my new fave.

So you have four?

I'd consider that an amateur in the sport of unnecessary pens. I have more than I'd care to admit to my husband. My particular favourites are Lamy and Waterman.

Top tip: don't ever look at the range of pens and cartridges available at Cultpens.com

Only four? DH loves them. Dear god he had loads and he always uses a fountain pen. But then he has amazingly beautiful copperplate script.

It’s handy if I can’t think of a birthday gift though.

This might be the ideal thread to ask if anyone might recommend a founatin pen for a 12yo who has recently discovered that she prefers them over a biro or gel type pen? (Not too pricey though as a step up from the 69p one she found in Home Bargains!)

Maybe a Lamy or a Parker? The nib should suit the handwriting.

Three already!!

I have HUNDREDS of fountain pens: I've been collecting them for about 10 years.

Three is how many I carry around with me daily.

DS is that you??

FreezyFreezy · 12/08/2022 22:00

I had hoped to be able to treat myself with another one over the summer holidays but can't afford it 😢

I try to write in copperplate calligraphy and although it's better than it was, it's not as beautiful as they show on YouTube!

The Lamy Safari is a lovely pen and has made even dc1's handwriting legible since it forces him to hold it properly and he doesn't have to press on too much to write (he doesn't seem to have a lot of hand strength).

Yay! Glad you like it! I still use mine every day and it hasn't let me down - some of the reviews said it is a bit scratchy but mine isn't.

I want to know what you're annoyed about on your second page of writing. Grin It's a very pretty pen.

I have five or six fountain pens that are Parker/Lamy, one Sheaffer, and then a two-pack from Poundland which are actually really nice to write with!

I learned to write with a Vector, and still have a soft spot for them. They're my most used ones. I have one with blue ink, one with black, and one with turquoise, although I've struggled to buy the turquoise cartridges recently.

FreezyFreezy · 13/08/2022 13:10

I had to have a look in my book because I had forgotten! The sentence was, "I am annoyed when the ink bleeds through the page, so I can't use it." 😂 I am a geek!

When I was at high school I used to write with a fountain pen and I'm sure it was a Parker but can't remember much about it.

Could you get a converter and some turquoise ink for your pen?

Lovely writing OP. I am addicted to buying notebooks and I have never written in most of them. If I had your handwriting I'd probably write more though, it's very impressive.

Thank you. It is better with a fountain pen than a Biro tbh but I write every working day too as part of my job so I suppose it has to be neat. Most of my Amazon recommendations are notebooks because I love searching for them!

Interested to know how the pen collection is progressing...

caringcarer · 04/03/2025 23:15

I've got a weakness for Waterman fountain pens. I've got 6, and the matching gel pens. The first one my Dad bought me to do my A levels. I can always find a pen when I need one and I like to write long letters to my sister in a fountain pen and she replies in kind. I consider a good fountain pen an investment in your well being and a joy. ✍️

I love fountain pens. I was taught to write with one. I have lots as my son works for a company that designs and manufactures lots of different makes. I never say no to another one.

I also love the Paperblanks books.

How lucky you are.

caringcarer · 04/03/2025 23:20

I've also got some lovely cat note paper. I use it to send thank you notes if I receive a gift.

Same I’d love to know how it’s going!

im currently looking to buy myself a lovely one, it’s my yay I’m cancer free gift to myself, so if anyone has a 150 or below recommendation I’d love to hear it! All ive had before now are the cheap Parker vectors which I love, but I’m wanting something that feels more special

HurrahWuff · 05/03/2025 10:05

@Teamcoco All of mine are below £100, apart from one.
My favourites change regularly, but I am especially fond of Conklins, with flex nibs. Can definitely recommend them wholeheartedly.
Congratulations on being cancer free!
