If you had to choose a baby at 20, or a baby at 40, which would you go for?

Assuming that you had no issues conceiving either time.

Out of your choices I would say 20. I had my baby at 38. But ideally I would say 30.

I’m bucking the trend- I’m 40 and this is my second. Got my degree, masters, teaching pgce and 15 years of work behind me. I’ve travelled and had my single life. However I wish I had the energy I did in my 40s...l

  1. Had my first at 26, wish I'd had her earlier tbh.

I have 2, born close to both those ages... I'd say 20.

  1. I really appreciated having time in my 20s to have fun with less responsibility.
Coffeaddict · 23/07/2022 21:13

40 I was a broke student at 20 with no way of funding a baby. Even in my 30s with a good job the cost of childcare is killing me

I spent my 20s partying, travelling, getting my career on track. Once the first two were out of my system (a bit 😀) and my career was where i wanted it to be, I was ready for kids. Would have been totally different if I had a child at 20.

I spent a lot of my 20s travelling and wouldn't change that.

  1. My child free 20's were fab. My friend had her second set of twins at 47. Her first set were 17!
ChuckBerrysBoots · 23/07/2022 21:16
  1. I would have had way more family support then than I did when I eventually had them!
orangeisthenewpuce · 23/07/2022 21:16
  1. That's not when I had mine but I think 20's are the best time to have a child.
pinkfondu · 23/07/2022 21:16

20, know I couldn't handle it now in my 40s lol

CrisisCafe · 23/07/2022 21:16

DC2 was born on my 40th.
No way could i have managed a baby at 20. No way.

i was 38 and 41 with dds. 20 would be far too young for me - I had no career or home then (like most women) and couldn’t have taken care of a child.

That ship has sailed. I’ll be grateful if I have children by 35 at the current rate.

That’s a really good question and I can’t decide… 20 seems too young and 40 too old ( for me )

My 40s with adult children have been amazing, got my career really going in 20s and 30s and now enjoying time spent with my children without having to care or play for them and loads of opportunity to travel and socialise.
