Paddy and Christine McGuiness lack of privacy!

Monkeybutt1 · 22/07/2022 15:03

Just read that Paddy and Christine have split, in their announcement they have said and I quote

"'We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify."

Am I the only person thinking WTF you share everything on social media, I dont follow them but just by reading celebrity news (I know I know) I know they were meant to be abroad on holiday, their daughters passport had ran out, they are in Center Parcs, he cheated on her etc
If you want privacy stop sharing everything!

I agree, they overshare on SM (I don't follow either) so to then complain lack of privacy is a bit rich.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 22/07/2022 15:08

Yes I agree.

I think it's never going to be healthy or good for you to live your life so publicly. It's crazy how much you can know about random strangers. I followed her temporarily as she is an autism advocate and my son is autistic but it was just constantly her in underwear I had to unfollow - I don't want to see that much of someone.

And as an aside, I really didn't like their documentary at all, it didn't flag any of the challenges parents face with years on waiting lists and no access to services. It was so lightweight.

the80sweregreat · 22/07/2022 15:10

They made a documentary about their girls and living with autism for the bbc and I think that Christine also has a diagnosis of this too ? Anyway , at the time I thought they didn't look that happy and a bit distant. She made a comment that she rarely went out and despite having a seemingly nice life they were clearly struggling with the girls and getting the right help for them both. I wasn't aware he had cheated though and I don't follow them on social media etc.

Monkeybutt1 · 22/07/2022 15:11

I do think its a shame they haven't used their platform to the full potential in raising awareness of autism and the struggles that come with it.
Totally agree with the underwear, she has an amazing figure but we don't all need to see it that often 😂

I agree.
They could quite easily live their lives away from the limelight. Paddy was earning plenty of money doing his TV stuff before we started having their personal business foisted on us (by them)

Arenanewbie · 22/07/2022 15:12

I don’t follow them at all, I’ve heard about them because of their film about autism but even so I agree with you OP.
My life is private - I don’t post anything about my family. They could do the same if they wanted privacy.

fatlazycow · 22/07/2022 15:15

I liked their autism documentary and thought it was great Christine being open about her own diagnosis/having the cameras follow etc

I don’t follow them on other forms of social media though so no idea how much oversharing they do

sad that they have split

Monkeybutt1 · 22/07/2022 15:15

There are plenty of famous people who you see doing their jobs but they don't put it all out there on social media. I think Keira Knightley is a great advocate for this. I know nothing about her personal life at all.

I feel sorry for her. He is just a philandering nob

I don't follow them, but just from reading newspapers she especially shares everything so its a bit rich then blaming the lack of privacy.
I agree its a shame for the kids they have split up, from what I have read Paddy really struggles with the diagnosis

She came across well when she was on The Games

Oversharing is a very neurodiverse thing to do. Someone once said to me oversharing is a response to not being heard. I wonder how often that is true.

littlefireseverywhere · 22/07/2022 15:28

I agree, I do really like her. He’s sleazy & she'll be well rid of him. If we compare paddy to Freddie flintoff, he’s online & in the public eye yet I know nothing about his personal life, or certainly very little as he’s more discreet. I’m certainly not blaming Christine as she’s lovely.

Yeah I got the impression he was struggling being the only NT person in a house with 4 autistic people and also accepting/coming to terms with all the kids being diagnosed

Dontwanttoberudeorwastetime · 22/07/2022 15:29

Also to note, she was 19 when they met and he was in his thirties. 🤢

Trytoavoidthebastardbus · 22/07/2022 15:32

The dynamic seemed really off in the documentary, she did all the parenting and he was here there and everywhere.

DH and I said that when watched The Games, she didn't have anyone there to support her.

Men struggle with lots of things . sadly.
Instead of trying to support his girls , he has done the classic thing of not accepting it and moving away from it all. I know that not ALL men are like this , but it's more common than people think and they see the diagnosis as an attack on them personally and then they can't handle it.
He'll probably just end up the fun time/ Disney dad and she'll end up with all the real leg work of getting them the right help and all the drudge of life in general.
At least they have money to help this process along : many don't have this either of course

JustDanceAddict · 22/07/2022 15:40

This could be true. My adult dd massively over shares v personal stuff on SM and is convinced she is autistic. I have had to point out that anyone can see tiktok posts unless her account is locked down!!

Felt same way about the documentary.

Also, in same documentary, I thought they said they couldn't afford to divorce. Which I thought odd as such a comment seems to only make sense, if someone has considered divorce and then realised they couldn't afford it.

WinterMusings · 22/07/2022 15:56

That's sad, especially if it's not what C wanted.

The documentary made me feel sad too, she seemed lonely & like she felt she was just his support act. Quite a few comments were a bit 'off' and she made it clear he didn't really understand her & the girls.

the clip with him at the school, showed a less than brilliant understanding.

I like Paddy (as a presenter) & I liked what little I saw of Christine. I hope they can do patent well for the kids sake.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/07/2022 15:58

I wonder if he will get to keep his goat.🐐

The one that Val Doonican used to sing a song about...

Exactly. It’s not the first reports of him messing about.

the80sweregreat · 22/07/2022 16:09

She seemed lonely and her remark about not going out much was just sad really.

OneFrenchEgg · 22/07/2022 16:10

I'm actually quite uncomfortable with the documentary. I think kids are entitled to privacy and not to have their diagnosis known to everyone. I'm autistic but at a level when it's not obvious and I choose who to share with. I think it should be up to you if you want to share something that's not obvious (so you can't help, and then I think for example a wheel chair user isn't obliged to share why they are).
