Sleeping Tablets from Boots

Hi,
Having struggled to sleep some nights and moaned on and off for years about this… I spoke to a pharmacist at Boots and bought some of the attached tablets. She told me they are for very occasional use etc..
Some nights I go to bed fine but other nights I am awake still at 3:30. And having 3 children and a job I don’t need to be feeling shattered.

has anyone else taken these? Feel a cross between excited and bit nervous I guess. If I struggle tonight for longer than an hour I will take one. . Hope they work.

It's just one of the older antihistamines. Most of them cause drowsiness as a side effect.

Yes I know what the active ingredient is. @Cameronnorrieisabitofalright these ones were £3.90!

Try half or even a quarter at first. I occasionally use Sominex and a quarter is fine for me, doesn't knock me, out but if I do wake I can get back off easily.

Although done the maths and your Tesco ones are 50mg so cheaper overall!

I LOVE these! They have got me through many a challenging insomnia period.

I take one around 10pm and am out about 10:30/11. Don't feel groggy in the morning.

Tried Nytol but didn't really help much.
Night nurse sometimes helps but it can be addictive

hoping I feel ok in the morning, even with not much sleep I don’t feel too bad as I am a morning person. But it’s later in the day when I feel shattered if I’ve had 3 or 4 hours only.

Try Melatonin, you can't buy it over here but can order it online.

I use these. To be honest I halve them as I feel too groggy the next morning if I take a full one. I secretly also enjoy having one with a large glass of wine for the ultimate sleep!

Sominex are similar but are promethazine which I think is the same as what is in phenergan and benadryl. I prefer promethazine. Not such a dry mouth.

Start with half the recommended dosage, then a full dose if needed. They are very good and pretty mild.

Avoid Sominex which is promethazine, as it leaves many people very groggy, even at low doses. They are for hardened insomniacs.

Phenergan is similar to promethazine, but not as strong, but also pretty powerful. Benadryl used to have a sleep inducing ingrediant, but now only has a non drowsy anti histamine, so don't waste your money on it.

What you have been given is good, but only take it for short periods. You can import melatonin from the USA quite cheaply and easily and that may just kick you into sleep gently

Yes I take Boots Sleepeze regularly to help me. They're ok. They take about an hour to start working on me.

Sominex sedates me more, as in it keeps me asleep all night long, but the downside is that it does leave me groggy the next morning.

Yes have used this active ingredient before. I have not suffered with any kind of issues next day but agree you could start with a lower dose if worried (worry won’t help your sleep!). I hope it works for you, insomnia sucks!

Sominex are excellent

TheIoWfairy · 13/07/2022 20:51

I use occasionally. I take half a tablet but only before about 7pm or else the morning is groggy.

The people who say half doses- the ones I have bought are 25mg there was the option of 50mg.

Pharmasist said to take 1 then if not working take second tablet. Packet says to take 2.

so what I am trying to say 😁 are those taking half a dose having just 12.5mg?

I sometimes take this active ingredient- yes 12.5mg is enough.

Agree re Sominex. They do work, but I need so much caffeine the next day I'm back in a worse cycle of sleeplessness.

I'll give Sleepeaze a go, never tried that one.

Phenergen, sominex, promethazine and night nurse (the sedating component) are all the same thing. It’s mad that a quarter works for some people. 😂 I’d need at least the full whack to get anywhere (on prescription doctors up it further than the recommended dose on the box).

Nytol (what you have there) does nothing for me but works great for my mother. We’re both insomniacs.

Doxylamine succinate (Kirkland sleep aid from Biovea) are better than both. It’s routinely sold in the US and around Europe but not here. 2 nights ago even one of these couldn’t get me back to sleep in the heat though.

DISCLAIMER: I’m a proper insomniac. Ambien doesn’t even work on me. Zopiclone does though. 🤷🏼‍♀️
