Sleeping Tablets from Boots

Hi,
Having struggled to sleep some nights and moaned on and off for years about this… I spoke to a pharmacist at Boots and bought some of the attached tablets. She told me they are for very occasional use etc..
Some nights I go to bed fine but other nights I am awake still at 3:30. And having 3 children and a job I don’t need to be feeling shattered.

has anyone else taken these? Feel a cross between excited and bit nervous I guess. If I struggle tonight for longer than an hour I will take one. . Hope they work.

Thank you. It’s not a new thing, I’ve never been one of those people who can just nod off!

Try some melatonin, you can buy it online. A tiny dose helps so much and no groggy feeling the next day. The ones I have say take 10mg but I chop them up and approximately 2/3mg works really well.

I'm going to try melatonin to see how that works. I'm not too bad getting off to sleep, but I wake in the early hours and can't get back off and I'm drained at work the next day. I've been using Nightol, but found it less effective recently. Night Nurse usually does the trick but you're not supposed to take that too much. Desperate for a solution. I'm 58 so guessing mine is menopause related.

I use the cheap hay fever tablets from wilco or homebargais that have certirizine in them. I dont use them daily but when I haven't slept for a few days and they work every time.

Hi - I’ve had trouble sleeping for years but was lucky to have been able to try a new technology using light that tricks your brain into REM sleep( I think -) I’m not entirely sure but you only need a phone with a torch function to do it - there’s a free trial you can sign up for before it launches properly - it’s changed my life and I’m not using every day now - it seems to have switched something that means I can get to sleep ok now unless I’m stressed then this does the trick every time - it’s called Lululight and you can sign up via Instagram

Cetirizine is supposed to be none drowsy, but half a tab makes sure I can drop off again if I wake!

Start with half the recommended dosage, then a full dose if needed. They are very good and pretty mild.

Avoid Sominex which is promethazine, as it leaves many people very groggy, even at low doses. They are for hardened insomniacs.

I think Somonex is the same as Night Nurse buy without the paracetamol.

I was struggling with 'pruritis' recently, which means unexplained itching. My friend gave me her cetirizine and over a couple of nights it really helped. I slept well too! When I went to the pharmacist she gave me them free on a prescription - this is a Scottish thing.

I will keep on the cetirizine but I'm going to take them mid evening as I am getting a touch of grog in the mornings. I'll play about with it and report back.

I've used these for years, 50mg every night. I've still woken up if the kids wake. Don't feel groggy the next day. They are only the old type of antihistamine so the other benefits are: you have a good build up already so hayfever is better, also don't get prickly heat anymore. Win win!

I've had savage insomnia before - literally no sleep at all - and I've found melatonin and especially Kirkland's Sleep Aid actually work.

I had a period of bad insomnia where all these drowsy antihistamines didn't do a thing. I added in 600mg N-acetyl cysteine before bed and was fast asleep within a minute.

I've taken night nurse when desperate but I need to take it at dinner time to reduce the fog the next day. Does work though but I try to take it when I'm not at work the next day ans certainly when I dont need to drive

Try Melatonin, you can't buy it over here but can order it online.

I agree Melatonin can be really helpful. I also find Magnolia Bark helps me sleep.

I’ve taken these in the past. Avoid the 50mg if you’re new, take the 25mg or even half. And no more than a few days at a time. I found prolonged use made me a bit erratic and quick to temper.

I have used the boots ones but it can take a while to leave my system and I can have had times where I feel hung over the next day. I try to take them at the weekends if I am particularly tired so it doesn’t affect driving the next day for work.

I've recently been given Zopiclone. It gets me off to sleep but I still wake a lot through the night.

I might order some melatonin.
