Making the males uncomfortable

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 11/07/2022 17:35

Dd has sports day tomorrow. They have to come in pe kit and have been told if they want to wear their pe skort they have to wear their school skirt over the top in lessons as it makes the male teachers feel uncomfortable. I massively dont agree with dd being told this and want to raise it as an issue with school bit not exactly sure how to ho about it. Any advice??

Are the boys allowed to wear their sports kit or must they also wear trousers /skirt?

If not - it's sex discrimination

And I'd be asking which make teachers had a problem with teenage girls bodies as I would not want my child taught be them at all

DisplayPurposesOnly · 11/07/2022 17:51

It's not logical is it.

Are male teachers uncomfortable teaching PE to girls wearing PE skorts? Why does the school have an item in the school uniform that makes teachers uncomfortable?

What 20th century sexist fuckwittery is this?!

It's an all girls school so no boys to compare. I feel uncomfortable letting my dd be taught by teachers that think this way.... no male pe teachers though.

One has to wonder if these men should be teaching..

What message does it send young girls when they're told they're not safe from their male teachers?

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/07/2022 17:59

"Dear school
Please can you let me know which of DDs male teachers feel 'uncomfortable' seeing the students in their school issued sports kit so I can report to safeguarding lead/police... "

HavfrueDenizKisi · 11/07/2022 18:01

Ah! I could have written this message.

DD at an all girls and this is the rule too. Skort for PE lessons but otherwise they must wear their sport leggings. For the exact same reason. "To show the male staff members respect".

I am at a loss how to bring this up as it feels totally wrong to me.

ComDummings · 11/07/2022 18:04

Dear school,

If any of your male staff are uncomfortable at female children being in shorts then they should be investigated by the police

This; send it to the general school email, heads email if you have it, safeguard leads (should be on the website) and the chair of governors. If a teenage girls body distracts teachers they shouldn't be teaching.

camdenl · 11/07/2022 18:12

That’s so weird, so are they saying their mandated PE kit is inappropriate to wear at school? Not fit for purpose then surely

Redbone · 11/07/2022 18:14

Absolutely sexist crap. I taught at an all girls school and, I can honestly say, that this would never have happened there! I would be inclined to write in, as a pp suggested, asking which male teachers in particular would find this uncomfortable?

Redbone · 11/07/2022 18:16

Would love to know which type of all girls school this is.

mbosnz · 11/07/2022 18:17

I'd be keeping daughter at home, and saying I was raising safeguarding concerns as apparently there were doubts that some male members of faculty being able to control themselves around young female students wearing a skort.

camdenl · 11/07/2022 18:23

Sorry, the more I think about this, the more weird it is.

If a male teacher is too perverse to be able to distance his sexual urges from the school pupils he is teaching, whether they are dressed in PE kit or not, he’s not fit for the job. I work with vulnerable people including children, I don’t have the say so to dictate what they wear as to not make me feel uncomfortable. Why should these male teachers? If they have a problem with the school uniform being “inappropriate”, they should have applied for jobs outside of an all girl’s school

Doesn’t sound like a good set of teachers tbh! The headteacher should be looking dimly on the teacher who said they feel uncomfortable, not the pupils.

camdenl · 11/07/2022 18:28

Also I’m struggling to visualise how a PE skort has less coverage than a school skirt. They’d presumably be around the same length as per policy, and the skort has shorts attached. The same amount of leg/figure is on display so it seems hypocritical that one is acceptable but the other isn’t.

100% this

LizzieSiddal · 11/07/2022 18:32

So these girls are supposed to feel ok about thinking some of those male teachers look at them in a sexual manner?!

Madmog · 11/07/2022 18:34

They're certainly making it sound as if they can't trust one/some of their male teachers, otherwise why aren't the boys having to do the same - they've got legs as well!

I'd definitely go along the lines of the safeguarding issue, and make sure it's copied into the school governers.

GCAcademic · 11/07/2022 18:34

How is this any different (in principle, if not degree) to a cultural stipulation that girls should wear burkas because men can’t help their desires?

I would also want to know why the school is making my daughter wear a kit (and making me pay money for a kit) that it deems to be inappropriate.

Blankbias · 11/07/2022 18:35

I cannot believe they have used this as an excuse and put it in writing. Honestly, if I had evidence of this I would go to the school governors and the press, and certainly would not be sending any children of mine of either sex to that school. If this is real, the school are basically saying they are employing pedophiles and the onus is on the victim to stop anything untoward happening. But, I don’t think this is actually true as no school would say this.

This!! As is! Dont need to change anything. I would be livid if I was you.

Headbandheart · 11/07/2022 18:55

I’d send a copy to the press. Anonymously. What utter pilchards

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 11/07/2022 19:34

To be honest I was horrified when dd said this was the reason. Awful to make young girls change their clothing to suit men and their inability to keep their eyes off young girls! Dd is mortified that I want to complain so need to be able to explain why it is so wrong to her too!

Borgonzola · 11/07/2022 19:43

I assumed from the title that you meant male classmates.

But teachers? Jesus Christ
