Making the males uncomfortable

Dd has sports day tomorrow. They have to come in pe kit and have been told if they want to wear their pe skort they have to wear their school skirt over the top in lessons as it makes the male teachers feel uncomfortable. I massively dont agree with dd being told this and want to raise it as an issue with school bit not exactly sure how to ho about it. Any advice??

Sounds unbelievable.

5FootMama · 11/07/2022 19:52

Wow. I work in all girls secondary school, and the athletics kit looks like this! It in school colours. The OPs schools make teachers wouldn't be able to cope 😂

The girls can wear longer shorts/tops/athletic skirts etc if they wish and have skirts for tennis etc but basically 95% of the girls are wearing this on sorts day when competing. They might have their baggier house t-shirt/hoodie over the top when watching

"Dear school
Please can you let me know which of DDs male teachers feel 'uncomfortable' seeing the students in their school issued sports kit so I can report to safeguarding lead/police... "

This ^^ sums it up.

So it’s a girls’ school and the school stipulates what the people kit consists of? Yet they deem their own choice if PE kit likely to arouse make teachers and this unsuitable to play sports in?! That’s all kinds of batshittery.

I would suggest they revise the kit, as well as objecting to girls being made to overdress for exercise in a heatwave. (I’d probably resist suggesting they hire less pervy staff).

One has to wonder if these men should be teaching..

What message does it send young girls when they're told they're not safe from their male teachers?

Sadly, the correct message, the people who make up these rules are the potential abusers and they're blaming girls.

Also I’m struggling to visualise how a PE skort has less coverage than a school skirt. They’d presumably be around the same length as per policy, and the skort has shorts attached. The same amount of leg/figure is on display so it seems hypocritical that one is acceptable but the other isn’t.

Why would they be the same length?

I imagine the PE skort basically just covers the bum, whereas the school uniform is closer to the knee, so very different lengths.

None of that negates the fact that a male teacher should have absolutely zero problem with the length of either.

viques · 11/07/2022 20:01

Goodness. I bet those male teachers are relieved Wimbledon is over for another year the sight/ thought of the female tennis players must have sent them into a right old tizzy.

BuanoKubiamVej · 11/07/2022 20:03

Yep. If the combination of a particular item of school clothing with any particular member of staff is inappropriate then either the uniform or the staff member shouldn't be there.

And the school have complete control over both. I hope they don’t know something specifically about a member of staff.

I heard Dr Em talk at Alloa and she said that teachers, police and doctors should have their hard drives checked before being given a job because if they watched porn of teen girls being abused, which is the most popular type of porn, then they absoltely are a safe guarding risk.

Made me wince. She's absolutely right.

ImperfectAlf · 11/07/2022 20:10

At the other end of the school spectrum, dad has to wear what amounts a to a play suit rather than the summer gingham dress of last year so that the boys don't look up their skirts or pull down their pants.
If she was my dd and not my dgd, we would be having words!
I'm livid 😡. Teach your sons to behave, not make girls change.

Quite, it takes moments to look up the difference.

Weird and ridiculous. Is this to do with worrying about accusations of inappropriate behaviour by teachers to students being more likely with the PE kit?

As I recall during Covid lots of children in a lot of schools with male teachers, caretakers, other staff wore PE kit all at if they had PE that day with no issues.

CthulhuInDisguise · 11/07/2022 20:23

If the male teachers are uncomfortable with it on sports day, are they more comfortable in PE lessons? It makes no sense. Surely the activities in sports day are no different to those in PE lessons, where the same uniform is worn. I'm confused.

Scout2016 · 11/07/2022 20:29

One reason people prefer a girls' school is that they don't have to deal with all the bullshit that comes of being around males. But you would generally think of the hassle of being about teenage boys, not pervy teachers.
If the only thing stopping them "feeling uncomfortable" is a few inches extra length on a skirt then they are in the wrong job.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/07/2022 20:33

If its not suitable for history, its not suitable for PE. (From that point of view)

Scout2016 · 11/07/2022 20:34

And of course, I agree about the message it sends out to the girls. That you can't expect men to have any decency take responsibility for themselves, so you best monitor, inhibit and alter yourself.

imperialminty · 11/07/2022 20:36

This is so upsetting to read. I would massively complain and I’d also encourage my daughter and her friends to rebel against this. It’s a gross thing to say to girls and I agree with that another poster said about leaking this to the press.

memyselfi · 11/07/2022 20:38

I wouldn't assume this has come from any of the male teaching staff, I mean any decent normal man that isn't a pervert should be offended at the insinuation and I assume any sicko that feels ' uncomfortable' in the presence of children's legs isn't going to draw attention to it .
All very weird and victim blamey.
Is the school principal a woman ?
It says more about the author that the male teaching staff IMO.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 11/07/2022 20:38

Blame the girls and make them cover up. Of course. Men can't be expected to control themselves. That would be like admitting there was a difficult issue there. Just get the girls to cover up then the males aren't uncomfortable and don't have to examine their issues.

passport123 · 11/07/2022 20:44

I would go ape to the head and the governers asking why they employ paedophiles.

Yes, it is this message I'm not at all happy with. They seem very up on feminism etc so not sure how this can even have happened. I've double checked with dd and she said that is definately what they were told.

Very much this.

user30 · 11/07/2022 20:55

A young woman I taught a few years ago wrote this, I have checked she is happy for me to share it. I love the RAGE:

Female athlete

you say I have no self respect
and that my skirt's too short
teenage concentration wrecked
by my misleading sport

you say I am unsuitable
and that my shorts distract
with rules that are inscrutable
how would you have me act

you say my body isn't right
my thighs are too strong
my skirt too tight
you make it clear I don't belong

f* you all , I’ll prove you WRONG

Carrotzen · 11/07/2022 20:58

Is this actually what is being said?

I remember rumours that this was being said in my day, rumours it had been said in other schools. This sort of thing is all over tiktok/twitter etc. But surely in this day and age no male teacher is going to say a teenage girls skirt makes them uncomfortable? I just find it so hard to believe that everyone involved in that message didn't think about what was being said, given the fact that this argument has been had time and time again

Before you complain, clarify what has been said. If that is the case then yes of course 100% should complain but make sure it's not teenage rumours.
