DH lost his job, what to do next?

DH works in what most people would regard as quite a difficult professional industry particularly with respect to relationships with colleagues (disagreements, backstabbings etc.).

DH was very high up in the pecking order, but unfortunately as time has progressed, it has become clear that he is not really up to the job, despite his bluster and hyperbole.

Anyway, DH has finally resigned from his role, several months after it became clear he is no longer respected by his colleagues.

Accommodation was provided through DH's work, we have two young DC, and a dog called Dilyn. I own a small flat that is not really big enough for all of us, and DH's home is currently let, so we can't move in there. We don't have anywhere to live, and we don't have any income.

DH says he will be able to earn money easily, drawing from his previous career as a journalist.

I am very nervous about our future. Can anyone offer any advice please. I am a SAHM.

Get a job Carrie, you lazy girl.

LTB

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 07/07/2022 20:38

Hang on, you have two properties bit nowhere to live?
I think you do.

nocoolnamesleft · 07/07/2022 20:39

You need to look at cutting back spending. Perhaps your DH can no longer afford a mistress?

Milly90 · 07/07/2022 20:39

Oh dear

well I’m sorry to hear about your Hubbie- does he have children from (many) previous relationships to support too.

tough times. I am sure he could pen his memoirs?

alternatively what are your skills? Could you put them to use for a whole to ‘get ahead’

sunshineandstrawberryjam · 07/07/2022 20:40

He should invest in a shepherd's hut and get to work on his memoirs. I hear it's worked well for others in his situation.

Milly90 · 07/07/2022 20:40

For a *while

Sanfranciscobabe · 07/07/2022 20:40

Very good.

but the thing we all want to know is can you take the wallpaper with you?

TreacheryPepper · 07/07/2022 20:40

Took me a minute!

This is hilarious! . It took me until the 1st comment to click on 😁

Take any fancy wallpaper off the walls and see if you can sell it on to any of the London elite, just to tide you over?

canyoutoleratethis · 07/07/2022 20:42

Oh I think you'll land on your feet. Your type always does

KeyErro · 07/07/2022 20:42

I reckon you could earn 100k, easy.
Try the Foreign Office?

PawsandWhiskers · 07/07/2022 20:43

I thought you were planning on moving in with Zac anyway, he’s loaded! And isn’t there a rumour that your ‘D’H’s hairdresser has had to leave the country as he has got her pregnant, surely he could emigrate to Canada! Problem solved….

MuchTooTired · 07/07/2022 20:43

Don’t worry Carrie, the job offers will come flooding in. A nice cushty number earning gazillions a year (he’ll finally be able to afford the nannies without wincing every time the invoice comes in) and you’ll be able to spend as much as you like on renovations without all the judgement. Plus you’ll be able to have stacks of parties without any aggro.

In the meantime, you could do surveys, take in ironing, search on here to find out where to buy a MN chicken that’ll feed you and yours plus the staff for well over a week, take in ironing or borrow a few hundred thousand off of your parents.

It will be tough, but you’ll get through it 💐

RosesAndHellebores · 07/07/2022 20:43

I had to get to Dilyn before I realised. May I respectfully suggest you keep count of your children as he has run out of toes now for all of his.

It will be fine, and your little flat is probably far more comfortable than a local authority one on one of feeder estates into Pimlico Academy.

If the worst comes to the worst, Rishi may have an empty btl to keep you out of a tight spot. Or your DH could sell one of your kidneys to buy some breathing g space before he sells his memoirs.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 07/07/2022 20:44

Redecorate and sell the old stuff on eBay. It should get you a few weeks shopping in Aldi hun xoxoxox.
That's if you can manage to walk in there with the plebs.

WafflyVersatileOohOoh · 07/07/2022 20:45

Oh I think you'll land on your knees. Your type always does

I fixed that for you.

Lbnc2021 · 07/07/2022 20:47

Could you take some ironing in?

SpiderinaWingMirror · 07/07/2022 20:47

Panic not.
The Etonian safety net is just being secured.
I would have to say though....what the fuck do you see in him?

Make a list if your outgoings. Maybe start with all your DH's child support commitments?
