Got a really good deal on a new car yesterday so splashed out. It's definitely a he and needs a name beginning with H for Hyundai. My current car is Hamish which I love, so was thinking Hamish 2. Unless anyone has any better ideas. My mum keeps suggesting girls names.

No I'm 40
And it's my second 😂😂😂😂

I'm 44 and on my third.
I will never stop naming my cars.
I talk to them too.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/07/2022 20:03

My brother In law is teasing me mercilessly about how upset my current car is at being sold. He really knows how to make he feel guilty!

Sorry, but I don't understand why people anthropomorphise inanimate objects.

In our house we have "my car" and "your car"

BeeEllEyePeePeeEye · 07/07/2022 20:22

Hugo, it's got all the puns.

Are you 17 and it's your first car? If not, tragic.

We always name our cars! Mid 30s and a fun tradition we followed on from DH family.

StarlingsInTheRoof · 07/07/2022 21:59

I thought Herbie straight away. Definitely the best H car name. I do like the suggestion of Hiro too though

TheMousePipes · 07/07/2022 22:01

I have a Hyundai, she’s called Joan. Dd named her.

DrEllie · 07/07/2022 22:06

I had a Hyundai called Oscar, due to last letters of registration. My first car was named Sandra based off an Alexei Sayle sketch 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 07/07/2022 22:53

Shortlist is;
Herbie
Henry
Hugo
Hamish 2
Hepzibah

Hilda
Hilary
Hildegard
Hermione

Mine is a freelander so called Ace. Ace Freeley (it’s a kiss pun for those of you not of a certain age)
cars do name themselves though. We have one called Vera because the reg ends in WNG and I instantly read Vera Wang.

H I’d go with a Harold I think. Not Herbie, that’s a beetle name.

WinterMusings · 08/07/2022 13:57

You can't call it Herbie.

Its not a white VW Beetle

EssentialGarage · 08/07/2022 14:01

Agree you can't go with Herbie much like you can never go with Christine.

Lots of my customers name their cars, many people spend more time in their car than they do with their significant other.

Lottieskeeper · 08/07/2022 14:10

You cant name a car until you've met it! (I do say the same about babies)
Out of the 20+ cars I've had only a few that had names;
Dave the Fiesta because of his number plate
Dangermouse the Rover because I kept referring to it as the white one.
Alexander the Audi because it says Alexander Audi on the number plate must've been the dealers name.
P Fer the Rover due to a miss hearing between me and DH.

Names picked out in advance surely wont stick.

Jeeze, lighten up!

I've named all my cars since I was 17!

Current cars are called Big Maz (husbands Mazda SUV and mines is Minnie.... the errr... mini 🤣

Stepdaughters car is called Chloe the Clio and stepsons is Pablo the Polo 🤣

rosyvalentine · 08/07/2022 14:19

I give my cars names depending on their nationality. For example, my Renault was Pierre, my VW was Hans. Given that your Hyundai is Korean, what about a Korean name? Just googled Korean names beginning with H and there are many. What about Hana (girls name)? Or Ho-Jin or Hong-gi (boys)?

Tomnooktoldmeto · 08/07/2022 15:00

All our cars have names, Zippy was named from its number plate, Nippy is a small city car version of the first car. DH’s car is called Hippy because it’s electric

FooFighter99 · 08/07/2022 15:12

My current car is called "Shadow" because he's black

My last car was called "Rusty" because he was a rusty red/orange

The car before that was called "Betsy" because that's what my daughter decided we should call her

I think you should wait until you've actually driven him a bit, get a feel for him first Grin

I'm 47 and have lost count of how many cars I've had but my current one is Elvis

emmathedilemma · 08/07/2022 15:27

What sort of Hyundai? Some names suit smaller or larger cars best.

thefirstmrsrochester · 08/07/2022 15:28

@CinderellyCinderelly my mini is called Winnie also 😀.

Dh car is Victor the Volvo.

And DS car is Hugo the Peugeot.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2022 15:55

@emmathedilemma it's an i10. hamish os perfect for the one I have now. But as I've been told, it needs its own name. Trying to nag the dealers to find out when I will get it!

OP posts:
BertiesShoes · 08/07/2022 15:58

Are you keeping your current car, if not then can the name not just go to the new car?

Our names have carried over from car to car, even though they don’t ‘match’ the type of car we have now 🤣🤣🤣🤣. My DH has a vision of little people living under the bonnet & helping to run the car, and therefore transferring from car to car (yes he is a bit bonkers but in a nice way 🤣🤣).

oh and we are late 50s, so those who say ‘are you 17’ can go and do hassle someone else! We are picking up a Motorhome tomorrow which we have already named!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/07/2022 15:58

Does it need Diamond brute applying? Is it worth £300?

I think Hilda for an i10, particularly in silver. Like a little old lady!
