Anyone else dealing with upset teenagers after Technoblades

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 21:21

Technoblade was almost part of our family during Covid lockdowns, it was where my 2 teenagers hung out, online, with their peers, so important. They are both absolutely devastated, and to be honest I shed a few tears too, only just 23

Sorry can't edit title, it looked completely different when I posted, sigh....

My 22 year old is distraught

jamaisjedors · 01/07/2022 21:27

Yes, my two (15 and 17) were crying and hugging earlier and wouldn't tell me why to start off with. Then the 17 Yr old did and I have them a hug and said I was sorry but not sure what else to do... Technoblade plushy has come downstairs to the living room.

I remember feeling shaken when a famous singer died as a teen but I think this is worse as they feel like they "know him" through all the videos etc.

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 21:41

Yes absolutely, he basically kept my kids company through lockdown. Older teen is in bits, younger teen slightly more chilled but I caught her shedding a tear earlier. Older teen has money to burn from first job and has just paid $100 for a special t-shirt, actual t-shirt is $30, shipping and duties is $70, fucking Brexit. Before anyone jumps on me, I've been ordering this stuff for years, it's Brexit. I might have covered the shipping and import duties for my kid

Yes - very sad over here. He was my dd's favourite of that set.

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 21:56

Before anyone flames me I have covered the $70 charges, with extremely gritted teeth, didn't need to be this way. Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving.

And before anyone jumps on me, the US have a rate for the EU and a completely different one for third parties which is what we now are

Yup, my ASD 19y/o is in bits. He's been randomly bursting into tears all day. His girlfriend has been hugging him most constantly and I've been doing my best.
It's very sad, he was just a young lad. His family must be devastated.

SallyWD · 01/07/2022 22:11

My children are younger (9 and 11) so I don't think they'd grieve the same way older kids would but they were very shocked and sad. They loved him.

OdeToSadDisco · 01/07/2022 22:15

My 9 year old is very upset. But as the person above said, probably less affected than if he'd been older.

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 22:16

My older DC is ASD, I think we must be in a similar place, I watched the video, at child's insistence, with Technoblades dad, with the dog on his lap . No words

DD12 is absolutely devastated - she was distraught when I got up this morning.

I managed to put my foot in it as well as I was half asleep and had no idea about the back story, so asked her if she was absolutely sure it wasn't a hoax.

Galvia · 01/07/2022 22:23

Yes technoblade was very much loved in our household. Very sad news and he meant a lot to my DS, especially during lockdown.

Ozgirl75 · 01/07/2022 22:24

My 9 and 11 year olds were sad about it - we talked about what a great thing he’d done, entertaining so many people, brightening people’s lives and how sad it is when anyone dies young. I actually feel very sad about it, a young man dead in less than a year, fucking cancer.

Lessstressedhemum · 01/07/2022 22:24

The video was heartbreaking. I honestly have no idea how his dad managed to do it. Poor, poor man.

BetsysBeended410yrs · 01/07/2022 22:24

Yes my DD 14 woke me at 6:30 this morning in tears.
I really liked him too
23 😞

ticketyboom · 01/07/2022 22:26

Thank you for this thread. Found my 12 year old crying in her room getting ready for school this morning. Still morose this evening, talking about the family and how this young chap had young sibs. Very sad for the family.

BearPomBear · 01/07/2022 22:33

Bereft in our home today. DS12 so upset but so am I as I'd heard so much about his life etc. So so sad 😪

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 22:34

Technoblade, you would have hated it, but even Mumsnet is.thinking about you;

DollyBantry · 01/07/2022 22:36

My DS14 told me he’d had a crap day at school today and I was expecting the usual teenage grumbles … and instead this was the reason why.

So very sad.

ShowOfHands · 01/07/2022 22:38

15yo DD is gutted as well. She's not keen on YouTube at all but Technoblade was an exception to the rule.

JoanThursday · 01/07/2022 22:39

Same here. My DS13 is very upset. The farewell video is heartbreaking. 23 - no age at all.

Tr1skel1on · 01/07/2022 22:45

I've spent the last few years listening to teenagers, normally tune it out. I'm genuinely gutted

Yes. Big, tough, nothing-bothers-me DS17 was noticeably withdrawn at supper but said he was fine. When I checked in with him a little later, he said the news had come through just before we ate and it had completely floored him. He’s dealt with elderly family members deaths before and one really sad case of a much older boy at school being killed in tragic circumstances, but is completely floored by Techniblade’s death. I don’t know if he’s watched the farewell video but as this thread’s alerted me to it. I might suggest we watch it together so he’s got someone to hug.

Annasgirl · 01/07/2022 22:53

Thank you all for this thread. I’ve had a tough day with my distraught 15 year old - when I went in to call him this morning and I saw his face, I was almost afraid to ask what happened. He has been morose all day - he keeps going to his room. We have one of the plushies and I’m sure he has been cuddled up to it.

It has been difficult to know what to say to him as DS is an atheist, so I cannot even use the Irish Catholic phrase of ‘oh I hope he is safe in heaven now’.

sending you all hugs.
