Is anyone still shopping with Ocado?

I pay for the mid week pass but each time I try and pull together an online order, I am shocked by the prices of everything, and instead go to my local Lidl or Tescos which is much cheaper.

I did my first shop in ages with them today as we have a special picnic at the weekend. Was expensive though!

SnowyMouse · 28/06/2022 15:10

I still use them, good delivery timing and few/no substitutions.

Sugaspunsista · 28/06/2022 15:11

I still use them every week

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 28/06/2022 15:13

I use them. Had some big issues when they switched to m&s which have now settled down. Don't pay for any pass and usually get free slots. Prices have gone up everywhere so I don't see it as an issue specific to ocado?

GetOffTheTableMabel · 28/06/2022 15:14

I do. I have a weekly fixed slot. I agree that it’s more expensive but I find the availability of products is excellent. I tried going elsewhere but the supermarkets here all have unpredictable gaps on the shelves so that my weekly shop would generally require me to go to 3 different stores to get everything or I have to abandon some of my meal plan and go out again later in the week, which is inconvenient and also not cheap due to fuel prices.

Pinkpenlady · 28/06/2022 15:16

My parents. But since turning 70 they have turned into M&S snobs.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/06/2022 15:16

I'm still with them. Didn't know they had any free deliveries! I pay for a midweek pass. It works for us as we don't have a car so if I didn't pay for deliveries/pass I'd be paying for a minicab or going to the shops almost every day. I don't have an Aldi or Lidl on a direct bus route or short walk away, so unfortunately not much use to me.

mast0650 · 28/06/2022 15:17

Yes I do. It's just very easy!

Sassifrass · 28/06/2022 15:26

I do. 1) They deliver in bags. 2) Rarely need to substitute. 3) seem to offer free delivery slots most weekends. 4) the bags thing again!

Yep, same reasons here.

FlipFlops4Me · 28/06/2022 15:32

I do. I tried a different one a couple of weeks ago but a lot of the food they delivered was best by the day it was was delivered. I was a bit miffed. They credited me for all of it which would have been great if I'd planned on going back.

I'm a carer for my housebound D/H and it's not often I can go out. I do one shop each week to cover absolutely everything from cleaning stuff to dogfood to our food. If I get it from Ocado the fruit and veg will be fine for the whole week. It is a bit dearer but I'd rather pay more and get the stuff I asked for with use by dates spread out over the week so I can plan meals. Not for everything to have to be used on the day I bought it!

And the bags.

Yep same here too!

We still use them occasionally - but not for basics. We get tinned goods, milk, bread, washing powder etc from Tescos. Use Ocado more for the nicer bits if we have people coming over - meat, deli stuff, nice salad stuff, cheese, fruit, coffee and so on.

925XX · 28/06/2022 15:45

No after seeing 1kg lurpak is £9 from Ocado!

Playplayaway · 28/06/2022 15:54

Once or twice a month I'll get us a meal deal for a treat with some branded bits that I can't get at aldi or lidl. We couldn't afford to shop with them full time.

dameofdilemma · 28/06/2022 15:55

I don't think anyone uses Ocado to save money. Its to save time.

I don't want to spend the little free time I have trawling around supermarkets or waiting for online deliveries that have lots of missing items/substitutions, which I then have to trawl round supermarkets to buy. Tesco/Sainsburys online deliveries are abysmal around here - they can't seem to cope with the volume of orders or the traffic.

Sure, if I happen to be passing a Lidl/Aldi I might pop in and be pleasantly astounded with how much cheaper it is (I love a bargain) but realistically it just isn't going to happen very often.

Flossflower · 28/06/2022 15:56

I have shopped with them for over 10 years. I find that I can get a slot and there are few products either not available or substituted.
I absolutely hate any form of shopping and don’t have the time for it.

popandchoc · 28/06/2022 16:03

I do every few weeks when they offer me money off.

SatinHeart · 28/06/2022 16:03

I do sometimes when we have visitors and want something a bit fancy. Have had a couple of free slots recently - not really sure the mechanics of how when they become available.

It is too expensive to be a regular thing for us though (normally we use Asda)

Whitewolf2 · 28/06/2022 16:12

Yes I do, I have the automated mid-week delivery slot, which is great value at £2.99 a month.
I’ve tried Tesco quite a few times but found there’s a lot out of stock, or goes out of stock once I’ve ordered it and doesn’t turn up, once the whole delivery didn’t turn up!
Ocado are so much more reliable and they do have discounts. Plus bags at delivery as others have said!

ehb102 · 28/06/2022 16:16

I use Ocado once a month for the things I don't find locally. The days when I would save the pass money and the Tesco money by shopping from one then the other for offers are over.

Unbored · 28/06/2022 16:22

I shopped with Ocado for about 15 years but a few months ago switched to Morrisons. They use the same software (so I’m still giving money to Ocado) and bags but Morrisons have more cheaper options. I’m happy with the change but used Ocado once when they sent me £20 off my shop.

slavetothekittens · 28/06/2022 16:25

Yes, I've been using Ocado for years now, used to order weekly ( they do cat food that Ms Fussy Cat likes) but have cut down to two-weekly and am having a Tesco delivery once a month as well. I tend to use Ocado coupons/vouchers and stock up on offers.

Do top up shops at Sainsbury's and sometimes Lidl , though both are quite a distance away. No Aldi anywhere nearby unfortunately.

Exactly this.

ihatethecold · 28/06/2022 16:48

The range of food is nowhere near as good since they switched from Waitrose to M and S.
too many ready meals.
