£310 PW, one room in shared flat, en-suite with small double bed.

Would you pay his much for private student accommodation?

No. We’re paying £165 a week for DS for a similar room and I thought that was steep!

MolliciousIntent · 24/06/2022 21:47

Ten years ago I paid less than that a month.

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 21:49

No! Is that in London? That's insane!!

DD’s is £270 for halls 😬, some of the rooms are £310, the rooms are tiny (single bed, dest, drawers and a en-suite).

PresidentByeThen · 24/06/2022 21:51

EntertainingandFactual · 24/06/2022 21:52

Manchester!

It looks gorgeous but what student has that amount burning a hole in their pocket?

There must be some very rich Mums and Dads out there I think!

EntertainingandFactual · 24/06/2022 21:53

Our mortgage is less than that a month…

No way! I couldn't, even if I wanted to. We pay £140 a week for Halls.

Zippy1510 · 24/06/2022 21:54

I went to Manchester around 15 years ago and it was £70ish a week for the new halls!

Wow!
I’m feeling very very mean now!
My ‘PFB’ is leaving to go to University this year and they’ve got a room in the cheapest halls, shared bathroom… £125 PW 🤣
It’ll be an experience…

It is much cheaper if a group of 3 students rent a house and just share kitchen and bathroom and pay utilities between them. You are looking more like £600 per month each then.

ZaraSizeMedium · 24/06/2022 21:58

I would look at buying a studio flat or small apartment if we had to pay that much.

I was shocked when I found out it was more than £35 PW tbh!
I’m stuck in 1991! 😄

AnnaKar · 24/06/2022 22:01

Privatisation of halls?

Tough if you haven’t parents who can help you financially.

£160-180 seems to be the norm here.
Prices go from £125 to the eye-watering £310.

Uni where I work the cheapest oldest halls rooms sell out first.

PattyMelt · 24/06/2022 22:04

That's a lot. Dd has been looking and getting ready. Looks like it'll be 115 for a room with shared bathroom at one of her choices up to 165 for new halls with ensuite and a different Uni.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/06/2022 22:07

DS1 goes this Sept £115 pw ensuite.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/06/2022 22:08

Mind you the reviews are pretty awful....not showing him those....

I’m happy to say it’s the same for the halls mine is staying in next year. Cheap and cheerful! 🤣
DC’s friend wanted to book a room just weeks after the bookings opened and couldn’t - they’d all been snatched up!

University halls is shockingly expensive. Thankfully DD is doing a degree apprenticeship from September and her employer will pay for accommodation while she's studying! We don't have that kind of cash to spare and there's no way she could earn enough from a part time wage to support herself. It really is taking us back to the 1930s when university was out of reach.
