Ran for the train

And ended up wetting myself.

I feel awful.
Wearing leggings and tunic half way down my thighs.
Nothing visible as far as I know.

I'm standing up with my back to a something so no one can see anyway- until I get off.

Journey about another 20 mins.

I must stink.

Feel absolutely dreadful.

Oh you poor thing!

I ran for the train, which was pretty full, tripped over just before reaching the door and literally fell into the carriage in the most spectacular way including grazing my face on the filthy floor just as the doors started beeping and closed.

Attempted to pretend I was okay.

Mortified.

Skinnermarink · 14/06/2022 18:23

Is this something that happens regularly?

Mortifiedforlife · 14/06/2022 18:27

No it's not happened before. I'm mid-50s so I get the odd coughing/sneezing incident, but not on this sort of scale.

Mortifiedforlife · 14/06/2022 18:28

@AmandaHoldensLips thanks. I feel horrendous.

I'm just standing here not catching anyones eye. It's not packed but I don't know if that makes it worse as probably obvious it's me.

Why did you decide to post on mumsnet about it?

Skinnermarink · 14/06/2022 18:29

i bet it doesn’t smell yet, and if it does and it’s anything like the train I get I’d assume it was the loo.

Bunty55 · 14/06/2022 18:36

It's a thing. Ladies of a certain age know they should always go to the toilet before they
Go for a walk/run for a bus
Go shopping
Laugh
Sneeze
Cough
Cry
Any human emotion will make you pee yourself if you are prone.
Been there done it all and got lots of tee shirts

Skinnermarink · 14/06/2022 18:38

Can’t anything be done? In 2022 do women in their fifties just have to accept they’re going to regularly piss themselves from there in in?

ill enjoy my last twenty piss free years then

Megapint · 14/06/2022 18:39

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 18:29

Why did you decide to post on mumsnet about it?

To get some support from other women who have experienced something similar maybe?

Is that a joke? Of course it's not normal to wet yourself if you're over 50 and you exert yourself! Who told you that?

Absolutely something can be done. Pelvic floor exercises/Pilates make a huge difference in preventing leaky bladder type accidents.

Why did you decide to post on mumsnet about it?

To get a snarky response from someone like you.

I'm assuming.

Mortifiedforlife · 14/06/2022 18:44

@Megapint exactly that, thank you.
(And I neglected to say that I've name changed-but even if I hadn't, I still might have liked some support from women who understand).

Please don't make it sound as though you're talking about all women 'of a certain age'.

Roselilly36 · 14/06/2022 18:48

Pretty impressed that you could run for a train, I definitely couldn’t.

bert3400 · 14/06/2022 18:48

@FilterWash why does anyone post on mumsnet ...to get some support, advice, all sorts of reasons , why did you feel the need to comment, do you not think the OP is feeling crappy enough without you dropping in 🤔

AmandaHoldensLips · 14/06/2022 18:48

There will be no smell. Repeat: YOU DO NOT SMELL.

Do they have a catering trolly that sells wine? Or gin?

Style it out. You can do it!

Trinity65 · 14/06/2022 18:50

I feel for you OP
I am in my late 50s now and though I have had no accidents there have been times I have sat on the bus and just held it all in .

I use the toilet a few times before I leave for somewhere and try not to drink anything an hour or so before . That's just Me though
Have you thought of those Tena Lady products to try ? I think other places do their own so Wilko, Savers etc .

Sunnysal · 14/06/2022 18:51

Im afraid its more normal than you think, especially if you've had children or are overweight. Most doctors don't really want to know and tell you to do kegal exercises. Many women feel embarrassed but find ways to cope . There are loads of pad/pants products . So many it's obviously a big problem. Lately I've found washable pants the best bet.

Trinity65 · 14/06/2022 18:51

@FilterWash

You are supportive I note !
Why bother to comment on a post you have no interest in would be my question to You

Probably the doctor or nurse or even physio when saw about stress incontinance…welcome to the NHS…contrary to popular belief pelvic floor exercises do not help everyone and after that you are stuffed. Or you used to get a mesh implanted till they accepted that was crippling women

Mortifiedforlife · 14/06/2022 18:58

Thank you for the reassurance everyone (well...most of youGrin)
I am home now and has a lovely shower. Clothes about to go in machine.

I have used pads occasionally when I have noticed it was bad (having a cough for example). May need to do so again and carry some spare clothes!

Really appreciate the kind words.

Troll hunting

Skinnermarink · 14/06/2022 19:03

A wee troll usually puts something in the title to make it obvious and fish for the wee stories.
