And ended up wetting myself.

I feel awful.
Wearing leggings and tunic half way down my thighs.
Nothing visible as far as I know.

I'm standing up with my back to a something so no one can see anyway- until I get off.

Journey about another 20 mins.

I must stink.

Feel absolutely dreadful.

OP posts:

See your Dr there is no need to struggle carry spare clothing etc

Titsywoo · 14/06/2022 19:06

Go and see a womens health physio - they will be able to help

Shitscared123 · 14/06/2022 19:10

Oh I’m sorry you feel so bad about happened and for the shitty posters. Please don’t be hard on yourself. Flowers

IncessantNameChanger · 14/06/2022 19:11

Not drinking for a hour before any journey helps (after 4 kids) I only wet myself when I'm being sick now. That's a pretty sight 😂

If I get the urge to pee I find it's mostly in my head so I stop distract myself and the urge passes.

Yes it's common but it shouldn't be shrug and accept it. OP I'd talk to a sympathetic doctor if you can for physio refferal

Shitscared123 · 14/06/2022 19:11

Also, certain exercises definitely help. I’ve peed a tiny bit when sneezing. Since doing yoga, which focuses a lot on pelvic muscles, it’s improved massively. You can do something about it.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 14/06/2022 19:11

I have a condition where when I need to poo, I need to do it now. Middle of a town about 2 hours away where I had gone to a work meeting. And pooped myself. Had to walk in my stinky clothes to M&S, buy new trousers and underwear, clean up in the disabled loo and dispose of what could not be rinsed, then go off to my meeting. The rest of the day worked out a lot better. I was mortified. No body else noticed though.

QuestionableMouse · 14/06/2022 19:15

If I smelled wee on a train I'd assume it was the toilets and not a person.

If it makes you feel any better, I once came on while out shopping. My trousers and pants were soaked to the knees and I had to get the bus home. Pretty sure everyone on the bus saw.

Gunpowder · 14/06/2022 19:19

You won’t smell. OP you need to ask your GP for a referral to a urogynaecologist, they can then refer you on to a pelvic physio. There are lots of solutions to this, not just pelvic floor exercises (although having someone show you how to do them really helps) but also pessaries, potentially surgery.

It’s really normal to have stress incontinence but I reckon it’s worth getting sorted!

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/06/2022 19:20

I had a similar problem. Started out of the blue. My GP was very understanding and helpful. Luckily it has stopped now.

1moreyear · 14/06/2022 19:20

This is why I love mumsnet, I love that people share their even worse stories to make you feel better!

Last time I had an accident was at Alton towers, I posted about it in here, I knew I'd be screaming so I put on period pants to catch the scream leaks. I put them on inside out! There was nothing I could do so I just had to put up with the wet patch, it wasn't a whole wee but I've definitely had a few near misses there too!

I'm only 44 as well.

Definitely get a medical opinion if you're concerned and Pilates is probably the best exercise for it.

JuneJubilee · 14/06/2022 19:22

@Mortifiedforlife I'm glad you're home & have had a nice shower.

fortunately I haven't (yet) has an issue out of the house, but I've had a couple at home. & I definitely sometimes can't wait in the way I used to be able to without an issue.

the couple of issues I've had at home were not close together & haven't (touch wood) happened since. So I'm not sure you need pads, change of clothes with you all the time.

Fresh urine doesn't usually smell, so I'm sure someone's food would have overpowered any 'fragrance'.

you're not alone

have something nice for dinner & try to put it behind you 🌸

It's a thing. Ladies of a certain age know they should always go to the toilet before they
Go for a walk/run for a bus
Go shopping
Laugh
Sneeze
Cough
Cry
Any human emotion will make you pee yourself if you are prone.
Been there done it all and got lots of tee shirts

I'm 60 and I don't have any of those problems!

It 'pisses' me off when people say just because I'm a certain age I must be suffering with this that or the other!

As for the Op, unless you are unwell your urine shouldn't 'stink' so please don't worry that others will notice and any wet showing on your clothing might just look like sweat in this hot weather.

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 18:29

Why did you decide to post on mumsnet about it?

Why did you decide to comment on it?

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 22:17

Chazzagirl2 · 14/06/2022 21:58

Why did you decide to comment on it?

Because I don't want to use the report function given the recent data breach, and I was hoping (clearly futile) to give other people a heads-up.

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 22:22

Megapint · 14/06/2022 18:39

To get some support from other women who have experienced something similar maybe?

Yeah. Maybe.

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 22:22

TabbyKat87 · 14/06/2022 18:44

To get a snarky response from someone like you.

I'm assuming.

You assumed wrong.

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 22:23

bert3400 · 14/06/2022 18:48

@FilterWash why does anyone post on mumsnet ...to get some support, advice, all sorts of reasons , why did you feel the need to comment, do you not think the OP is feeling crappy enough without you dropping in 🤔

You missed a fairly major category of "reasons for posting" there.

If you’re that concerned about a data breach, set yourself up on another email account, like many others have done.

This thread doesn’t strike me as particularly trolly though, but I guess there’s been so many of them lately that it’s getting hard to tell.

Variants of the "I'm so mortified I pissed myself in public, please share your stories to make me feel better" have been running on here for YEARS.

I obviously don't use my main email account for mumsnet and really it's no skin off my nose, except that I find it unpleasant when women share this personal stuff with someone who's not on the level.

But yeah... I guess everyone is free to do as they wish and ultimately it doesn't affect me. I just wish people were a bit more savvy.

You know what a faff it is to namechange on mumsnet? Imagine doing that, standing up, soaked in urine, on a crowded rush hour train, just so you could post a thread about it.

Tatapie · 14/06/2022 22:40

I have recently seen a Urogynaecology consultant and physiotherapist regarding mild stress and urge incontinence.
It's common in older ladies but it's not "normal" and there's definitely things you can do easily which will help eg reduce caffeine, bladder training, pelvic floor exercises.
Agree you wouldn't have smelt btw! And well done on the running!

And imagine posting something about having an incontinence problem on here and getting accused of being a troll.

I’ve had bladder issues for a couple of YEARS, so I don’t automatically assume anyone writing about it is some sort of troll or Herbert.

Ok. Just engaging a bit of a reality filter. But like I say... no skin in the game.

Bunty55 · 15/06/2022 00:15

Gosh there are some horrible judgemental people on this forum today.

I have had bronchitis more than once. Do not smoke and never have done. The first time they did not prescribe the right antibiotics and by the time I did get the right medication I was coughing up blood and peeing myself. I now have stress incontinence so each and every time I get any sort of cough it kicks in. I do pelvic floor exercises and now wear pads if I go out anywhere.
It does not stop me from being me though.

GoingOnce · 15/06/2022 00:20

Pelvic floor exercises/Pilates make a huge difference in preventing leaky bladder type accidents

They really don’t. Not for everyone. In fact, not for many in my anecdotal experience.

MissyCooperismyShero · 15/06/2022 00:34

worraliberty · 14/06/2022 18:46

Please don't make it sound as though you're talking about all women 'of a certain age'.

Not all obviously, but 40-59% of women over 50 experience urinary inconty. Not sure this should be minimised. It's huge problem.
