Would you say this dress is too young for a nearly 12 year old?

I think it probably is

Yes I think so.

Yes, definitely.

Maytodecember · 03/06/2022 22:17

I think so, gd wouldn’t wear it and she’s 10.5

avocadodi · 03/06/2022 22:18

I think so yes. I'm not sure my almost 8 year old would wear it. It's a bit cartoony.

WimpoleHat · 03/06/2022 22:19

It is a bit - not the style as such, but the cats and the writing make it look like it’s for a younger child.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/06/2022 22:19

What does she think? My ds is that age and has chosen his own clothes for quite a long time now.
My gut instinct would be that it’s too young but then I’ve seen some tweens/teens wearing quirky stuff too.

CheshireCats · 03/06/2022 22:19

Yes

Fiveinthebed22 · 03/06/2022 22:19

As a dress probably, but my dd (13) would wear it as sleepwear happily

Divebar2021 · 03/06/2022 22:21

I have no sense of the length… is it knee length? It’s hard to tell without seeing it on because some cool girl might wear it with knee socks and boots and look good but overall it does look like a younger girls style.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 03/06/2022 22:21

Definitely.

Hellocatshome · 03/06/2022 22:21

Yes

Stompythedinosaur · 03/06/2022 22:22

My 11yo would think so.

Moroccobanks · 03/06/2022 22:22

she chose and likes it but has mentioned she’s worried it’s babyish. She’s small so needs a age 8-10, seems other girls in her year are fitting into womens clothes and wearing adult dresses.

Stompythedinosaur · 03/06/2022 22:22

If she likes it, it is fine.

mistermagpie · 03/06/2022 22:23

Yep. It would look lovely on my 2 year old but anything over 5 would maybe be too old for that design I think.

I mean, obviously people can wear whatever the hell they like, but you know what I mean.

magaluf1999 · 03/06/2022 22:24

My 8 year would think it too young.

If its her style and she likes it. Good for her.

redskyatnight · 03/06/2022 22:24

It's too young for a 12 year old. And unless the 12 year old has not yet hit puberty, looks like it wouldn't fit well (though hard to tell from photo).

Runningnewbie · 03/06/2022 22:24

aww my DD is like that, she’s still so innocent In what she likes and not quite caught up or interested in the more grown up clothes 🙈 She gets upset that I can’t still get her age in the matching stuff that I get her younger sisters!

negomi90 · 03/06/2022 22:24

Depends. Some quirky 12yos would wear it, especially as sleep wear.
Let the 12yo choose. Don't force anyone else's ideas of if its babyish or not on them. Don't expect them to wear it because Granny got it as a present they didn't ask for. But don't not buy it if they want it because you are worried about what others will think.

Hairyfairy01 · 03/06/2022 22:25

My 11 year old would secretly like it but pretend not to as she would be aware that others are likely to think it's too babyish. But if your dd can be confident enough to wear it, good for her! I think it's a lovely dress for any age.

LaFloristaCalista · 03/06/2022 22:26

Very young. For me it looks suitable for 8 and under

redskyatnight · 03/06/2022 22:27

12 is the slightly awkward age where they need to be seen to be "grown up". I could see an older girl styling that dress and making it into a statement. At 12, I suspect it will give the impression of wearing a dress for a younger child. So depends how much confidence your DD has!

zurala · 03/06/2022 22:28

My 12yo would wear that with long socks, heavy boots and a chain belt. She's a total Goth and anime lover and would rock that dress. It's all in how you style it.

I mean, look at how many women like those Popsy dresses with animals on. If grown adults can wear those why can't an 11yo wear this?
