Would you say this dress is too young for a nearly 12 year old?

If she likes it and it wasn’t expensive, could she use it as a nightie?

SwayingInTime · 03/06/2022 22:29

Weirdly I could see my very cool 16 yr old in that and she often shares clothes with my 11yr old. With converse or boots it’s fine and anyway she likes it?

Moroccobanks · 03/06/2022 22:30

It’s above the knee basically a long t shirt, she would probably wear it with cowboy style boots. I’ve only asked as she mentioned it might be, I said it wasn’t but will try and suggest we consider other options.

My 11 year old would love it! She likes quite quirky clothes and is obsessed with cats though.

Spaghag · 03/06/2022 22:33

My DD is 10 (11 this summer) and absolutely bonkers about cats.

She would wear is as a top with leggings but not as a dress.

Moroccobanks · 03/06/2022 22:22

she chose and likes it but has mentioned she’s worried it’s babyish. She’s small so needs a age 8-10, seems other girls in her year are fitting into womens clothes and wearing adult dresses.

Awww OP bless her! I love it. If she likes it too but is worried it’s babyish please don’t tell her random adults on the Internet think it is!
encourage her to embrace her own style :) x

Mummumtum · 03/06/2022 22:34

mine wouldn’t be seen dead in it but as others have said it all depends on whether she has a sense of ‘style’ and will pull it off… cowboy boots suggests pretty quirky?

as long as she’s not likely to be teased I’d let her crack on if she’s happy

daisyjgrey · 03/06/2022 22:34

Black converse and a leather jacket and it's a winner.

TheNinjaWife · 03/06/2022 22:36

I love it. And I would wear it. Maybe not out and about, but definitely around the house. I’m mid 50’s. 🤣

Lindy2 · 03/06/2022 22:41

If she likes it then it's fine.

Let her develop her own style. I actually think that dress would look pretty cool worn in the right way for a preteen.

Boots, black jacket, belt etc move it away from a little girl look.

She can always wear it at home or as a night shirt if she decides not to wear it out as a dress.

Whatalovelydaffodil · 03/06/2022 22:44

No it's fine. An adult woman could wear it.

Agapornis · 03/06/2022 22:45

I would - 35 with an eccentric/amazing fashion sense Grin

DucklingDaisy · 03/06/2022 22:55

I agree with everyone saying it depends how it’s styled. Kidcore is a thing after all. I can see an alt teen in knee socks or doc martens or something.

On a young looking 11 year old, it might read as more childish than she’s aiming for.

RuthW · 03/06/2022 23:06

First look, yes I would say for under fives, but if you read what it says I wouldn't put a child under ten in it.

A very odd dress.

maccaroni · 03/06/2022 23:10

Its Mini Rodini, and is a super cool Swedish brand! I think its fab and she will look great in it. You could style it with leggings or just with sandals or converse. Denim jacket over the top on a cooler day. She has plenty of time to look like a mini adult, & 10-11years is the biggest size anyway. The design is called Clairvoyant Cats!

Onwards22 · 03/06/2022 23:13

It’s so cute but I do think it’s a bit babyish.

If it’s not too expensive and she likes it then I’d buy it for her and encourage her to wear it at home or around family rather than friends or kids from her school who all want to look older than they are.

SleepSleepRaveAsleep · 03/06/2022 23:16

My 6 year old wouldn't wear that, I was looking at summer clothes online with her the other day and any bsbyish prints like that were a flat no. Can't imagine an 11 year old wearing it unless it's a pj top.

SayCheeseBoris · 03/06/2022 23:16

DD8 would probably wear it if it was more of a long tshirt style with cycling shorts. Definitely don't think it would look good with cowboy boots but I suppose kids these days have quite different tastes to us!

Sunshinegirl82 · 03/06/2022 23:20

I think it could work with a denim jacket or short sleeved denim shirt worn open and tied around the waist? Maybe with white trainers or boots when it's colder?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/06/2022 23:20

My 11yo wouldn't... but mainly because its a dress.

She might wear a tshirt in the same fabric.

Whatalovelydaffodil · 03/06/2022 23:23

I don't like the word "babyish" unless we're talking about actual babies. There's nothing about this dress that makes it just for babies. It's not even typical baby colours or style.
Most 10/11 year olds ( or older) would like this dress if they were allowed to be children and not worry about what other people think.

BuffyFairy · 03/06/2022 23:28

I think it’s quirky, not babyish. My DD, 10, likes Mini Rodini and chose a t-shirt from this range. Shame they don’t do bigger sizes.

yesthatisdrizzle · 03/06/2022 23:31

Too young as a dress. Fine as a nightie.

VariationsonaTheme · 03/06/2022 23:34

My 14yo would wear it, with DMs or converse.

Dinoteeth · 03/06/2022 23:37

Op i think it looks young, and if all her friends are dressing older then it could end up in the back of the wardrobe even although she likes it.
Its hard being 11 and short without looking like a little kid too. So i guess part of it comes down to her confidence levels
