My bedside table looks like it belongs to a senior citizen.

My once minimalist bedside table now looks like it belongs to a much older person.

It is now taken up with - a box of tissues, allergy eye drops, ibuprofen gel, specs, extra strength hand and foot cream, bottle of water and paracetamol.

It has now become obvious to me , I am no longer "young and hip!"

when and what was the moment you realised you were not so young anymore?

yes to the "oof"!

Finding small print on food packets etc hard to read, even though I already have reading glasses. If it's this hard in my 40s how on earth am I going to read anything in my 70s?

Take a photo with your phone and enlarge it. I'm in denial me

Ddot · 03/06/2022 19:43

Looking in the mirror and the melted welly was looking back at me.
Doing the 16.65! young man ran after me shouting excuse me, excuse me, I turned he looked mortified said oh oh sorry I thought er sorry and scurried up the road. 16 from the back, 65 from the front 😭

Crikeyalmighty · 03/06/2022 19:46

Actually ladies those of you with various issues at 40 odd are making me feel much better as most of my dodgy mobility stuff started about 3 years ago at 57

I’m 68 so definitely older than the majority on here….
Getting the car valeted is a necessity because I can’t reach across the car roof to wash it.
My bedside table has to have drawers to hold everything I need to hand 🙄
I creak when I first get up and am considering a orthopaedic mattress.
I’m just so grateful for free prescriptions because my list of medication keeps growing!
My GP is younger than my DCs.

comfortablyfrumpy · 03/06/2022 19:57

With you on the bedside table OP.
Mine also has about 8 pairs of reading glasses ...

Appreciating comfortable shoes.

@Kanaloa I also have the Handbag of Plenty. You never know when you will need a plaster, paracetamol or even to use a travel sewing kit ....

When a three year old asked me whose grandma I was!

IrisVersicolor · 03/06/2022 20:14

For me it was 2 pairs of glasses - one for long one for short sight. That’s old age.

When I've been sitting too long in a chair and get up but am bent almost double for a few minutes. It's takes a little while to fully straighten again

yes I've started like too this since about February this year, I'm mid 40s and it just started happening out of the blue. my hips ache and takes me a bit to straighten out. I was actually worried I might have something wrong with it just starting all of a sudden, suppose its just aging though. the joys

When I kept hearing sirens whilst driving preparing to pull over before realising it was music on radio 1 - I’m camp radio 2 now

My first white pubic hair.

My first white eyebrow ☹️

I remember being told that I was too.old for a job for young people. I was 24 at the time!

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 03/06/2022 20:46

These are all hilarious and i think i can identify with all of them!

borntobequiet · 03/06/2022 20:49

Mine has a bedside light, a book about Bellingcat and (currently) a glass of wine.
I’m nearly 70. Give over with your generalisations.

Mellowyellow222 · 03/06/2022 20:53

I was sitting having a really enjoyable chat with colleagues - we really clicked and had lots in common. The topics were kitchen renovations, art and garden centres😂😂. We are all early forties.

ThistleTits · 03/06/2022 21:02

@Wherecanitbe when I was supervising two students on placement. They were in my car and I had Amy Winehouse cd on, they both said "oh my mum listens to this" 😟

Oh this for sure 😣

When a stranger approached me from the mosh pit, and instead of offering drugs, asked me to look after his coat.

NealSeal · 03/06/2022 21:20

Are radio alarms not a ‘thing’ anymore?
I’ve got 2 in the house, one in the bedroom and one sitting on the Sky box …. both are set to the large display….
The mantle clock is lovely (but I can’t bloody see the numbers🤣)

The Cotton Traders catalogue is always a good read…
And the Lakeland one…

ChazzaGirl · 03/06/2022 21:53

Asking my friend’s child if she wanted me to tape a programme for her - she asked “what’s a tape?”.

Saying tuppence instead of 2p (the shop assistant had no idea what I meant).

Having to carry tweezers in every bloody handbag so I can get rid stray chin hairs.

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 22:10

I kind of assumed that radio alarms were ancient history now in the world of smartphones, fitbits and alexas. Maybe not then.

Yogity · 03/06/2022 23:00

I always feel old when I pass a queue outside a nightclub and think "those girls will be freezing out without their coats"

From an oldie. What you do is use your phone to take a photo, or just focus on the small print and then enlarge it on your phone screen.

Ddot · 03/06/2022 23:08

Joints that sound like breakfast cereal as I descend the stairs

Gladragdoll · 03/06/2022 23:12

Just got reading glasses because I can’t focus on small print 😕 My knee keeps giving out on me. And my new neighbours look ridiculously young 😳
