My bedside table looks like it belongs to a senior citizen.

My once minimalist bedside table now looks like it belongs to a much older person.

It is now taken up with - a box of tissues, allergy eye drops, ibuprofen gel, specs, extra strength hand and foot cream, bottle of water and paracetamol.

It has now become obvious to me , I am no longer "young and hip!"

when and what was the moment you realised you were not so young anymore?

Same, OP.
I now feel maternal towards most young men. That was my heads-up that I now middle aged.
I quite like it, never been more comfortable in my own skin, TBH.

Oh, the phone font size!!😮
Mines up to the max, so I don’t need my reading glasses!!
Apparently the ‘Man in the Moon’ can read it… and my watch is known as the Town Clock, given the size of the face on it😁

GrandRapids · 02/06/2022 23:01

The god awful aches and pains.

I have to lift my right leg into the car as I seemed to have developed a dodgy hip.

Repeatedly telling my child how lucky he is as 'I never had that when I was young'

A very well stocked bedside drawer with numerous medications, gels, herbal supplements, leg supports, neck support, back supports.

One of my best friends is 17 years younger tonight she played me a song and asked if I'd heard of the band, I said yes I've seen them live then realised I'd seen them live around 20 years ago and she would have still been in primary school

Cocolapew · 03/06/2022 00:10

Most of my wardrobe consists of elasticated waist trousers.
I was in the soft play area in work the other day and had to roll onto my front then walk on my knees to the wall to drag myself up. I'm another one with sore feet and hobble for a few minutes until they loosen up.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/06/2022 00:53

The sad realisation that some of my collegues weren't even born when I qualified Shock

mjf981 · 03/06/2022 05:21

Yes! Recently some of the new starters at work have been born after the year 2000. Made me pause when entering their birth dates. Y2K feels like it was about 3 years ago. Where has the time gone?!

Haha yes! In my head there's not much difference between 2000 and 2020, it all feels like just 2 or 3 years ago. In reality there's been so much change!

Oblomov22 · 03/06/2022 06:30

Loving oof' noise, scrolling for year of birth.

Oblomov22 · 03/06/2022 06:33

Ds1 played me a song from a band I'd never heard of. Then I realised that from my song list, most of the bands and artists I would like to see live are actually dead.

I realised DH and I are turning into his parents when we started going for a little walk round our garden every night looking at our plants and talking about them.

I don't know why but that sounds like the sweetest thing ever. Awhhh.

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 07:42

My colleague mentioned it was her nan's birthday the other day and she's younger than my parents. The "blank look over cultural references" thing happens pretty regularly at work too.

I love this thread! It's the stuff comedians make so funny - that shared reality that makes us all human...
I went out to eat with friends a while back. The lighting was dim and nobody could read the menu except me, because I'm very short sighted and can take my glasses off and bring the print close to my nose 😄
Someone on another table lent my friends their reading glasses, which ended up getting passed around 8 people (who all now have their own!)

MrsDThomas · 03/06/2022 07:56

My bedside table has

lamp
lipsalve
earplugs
minipill
hrt
water

not too old!

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 08:05

My bedside has a radio alarm clock, a pile of books, a lamp, lipbalm, remote control and some chargers. The radio-alarm probably dates me the most but it is so easy to use I can't see me ever getting rid of it.

StarlightLady · 03/06/2022 08:09

Keeping my glasses on when having sex with someone 😂.

The fine hair on my face ( thankfully blonde) is getting longer and caught sight of even longer hair under my chin Blush

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/06/2022 08:40

I used the word 'trendy' in a conversation with DS (10). He was absolutely merciless in his piss-taking. Blush

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/06/2022 08:45

Oh yes, and all the herbal supplement crap. I keep seeing new ones and thinking 'Ooh, that might help with x'. Then I have to keep on taking them just in case they ARE helping with x and coming off them would completely fuck me.

PerseverancePays · 03/06/2022 09:15

My sister and I used to have a pact when out shopping ,if we drifted too close one would say 'step away from the beige!'

Does stone and taupe count? I can feel her frowning and pissing herself laughing as I contemplate these very nice clothes in the Landsend catalogue.

Mine died. I'd had it since my 13th birthday, so it did about 30 years service. I think I'm recovered from the loss now...

drinkingwineoutofamug · 03/06/2022 10:09

My colleagues born the year I started working at the trust 😳
Today I'm struggling with my bad ankles/knees, hips, back! I walked nearly 10 miles yesterday with my dementia patients.

Today partner wants to go on a walk. Another think coming on that one.

Yes to going to a party and drinking tea.
Yes excited about a long soak in the bath, followed by hot chocolate in bed. By 8:30pm
Big comfy knickers, comfy shoes, bralettes!
Bed side table lamp, pile of books, reading glasses , rennies and cold gel for my knees.
I'm 44

Me & DH this morning, commenting on overgrown trees & bushes at the end of our road. Then further wondering if it was the responsibility of the council or the homeowners to trim them back.

Don't worry - my DH has been talking at length about this sort of thing since he was about 25!
