I'm stuck at work, listening to a colleague drone on and on, lecturing someone on war stories. Thankfully it's not directed at me but it's been going on for 1/2 an hour literally him wittering on! I think the person he's talking to has said yeah, oh right and I see on repeat to appear interested.......only 4hrs until I can go home!

That sounds awful
It's silent here, I can't sleep, I've tried rain noises but they didn't work either

ChristmasPuddingAllRound · 01/06/2022 03:09

Their own war stories? You could always go all Monty Python and come up with a more extreme, clearly untrue, story and then just smile!

I can hear my audio book and the noise of the leg compression machine I'm wearing after surgery yesterday. Also struggling to sleep!

itsthesoundofthepolice · 01/06/2022 03:19

no, not his war stories, Vietnam and WW2 I think. We've had a 5mins of quiet and now we're getting regaled with a rant about why he shouldn't be doing something!
The rest of the place is pretty quiet so he seems even louder.

@MissSmiley try box breathing that usually helps me get off to sleep if all else has failed.

@ChristmasPuddingAllRound hopefully you managed to get some sleep to aid your recovery!

That sounds mighty tedious @itsthesoundofthepolice I can hear two strangers snoring on the hospital ward I’ve just moved to. Glad I had the foresight to bring my noise cancelling headphones for when I finally get into bed!

Pompom2367 · 01/06/2022 03:30

White noise and my dd having a conversation with herself trying to stay awake until she is asleep

MissSmiley · 01/06/2022 03:35

@itsthesoundofthepolice I'm going to google box breathing... I'm still awake, I'm now starting to worry why I can't get to sleep, I'm exhausted

Nsky62 · 01/06/2022 03:42

My purring cat

Khalas · 01/06/2022 03:49

Air con unit
Miaowing cat

Kleptronic · 01/06/2022 03:51

Blackbird. It's the pre-dawn light has got him up.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 01/06/2022 03:52
  • Cars going past the house
  • DP pottering about doing last-minute tidying, mumbling to himself, coughing, general man-noise
  • The plumbing doing something noisy
  • The living-room clock ticking
  • The kitchen clock ticking
  • The extractor fan in the bathroom
  • A strange humming from next door
  • A higher humming from the plug sockets by the sofa
  • A high-pitched whistle from somewhere (the lights?)
  • Some turned-off electricals settling for the night
  • The sounds of some of my joints moving, creaking and clicking as I type
  • My own breathing

I'm about to go to bed, so hopefully I won't be able to hear most of these things and will be able to block the others out.

Notodaynotever · 01/06/2022 03:52

Birdsong and lorries.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 01/06/2022 03:53

A couple of women who appear to think having a conversation outside my house at almost 4am is reasonable.

A train just went past. I love the sound of the trains.

My belly grumbling Hmm

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 01/06/2022 03:53

Ooh and I've just started to hear birds singing. Joy…

nearlyspringyay · 01/06/2022 03:58

The birds have just woken me up

ShirleyJackson · 01/06/2022 04:00

My frigging tinnitus.

LucyLeaseExtension · 01/06/2022 04:10

Birds, various types (can't name them). Absolutely exhausted,, but can't sleep. Just stood looking out the window & there was a fox out there, but he's not calling for a mate or playing

Shwighty1 · 01/06/2022 04:14

I’m stupidly awake, super busy day today so should be asleep 😴 but I can hear the birds and my husbands breathing, my little girl dreaming about eating strawberries apparently!

Handsnotwands · 01/06/2022 04:20

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 01/06/2022 04:24

I'm recovering from surgery and so having slept a lot this evening I'm now wide awake ⏰️

I can hear the radio and my DH snoring

Thursday37 · 01/06/2022 04:28

Birdsong and DD snoring and coughing in the next room. I can’t sleep, woken with an inexplicable panic attack and can’t switch off now. We’ve just moved house and have a lot on as house needs renovation and I think my brain is struggling with it all.

Neu · 01/06/2022 04:46

Cats purring and morning birdsong

Hope he's shut up or died OP!

itsthesoundofthepolice · 01/06/2022 05:04

He's shut up, he may be asleep but I'm not sure, maybe just trying to pick the next topic, it's been blissful silence for 10mins now. Other than being interrupted but actual work!

For those having a disturbed night I hope you get a few hours sleep before your day starts. I can't wait to get home and get earplugs in and hear absolutely nothing!

squashyhat · 01/06/2022 05:22

DH snoring, wood pigeon cooing, blackbird chuntering to her brood in the front hedge, tinnitus, faint traffic noise

LittleOldLadies · 01/06/2022 05:24

Sadly either my partner or my son experiencing D&V :(

itsthesoundofthepolice · 01/06/2022 05:34

He's started again, Serial killers are the subject now and sex offenders

@LittleOldLadies I hope they're not too unwell, and you don't catch it
