Rightmove addict alert! Weird £1m bungalow

I'm thinking ex-brothel?

  • Plenty of screened-off parking
  • Edge of town
  • Everything is wipe-clean and soulless
  • Too many bedrooms
  • Weird lack/size of bathrooms
  • Covered sex pond

It's a minimalist open plan turnkey property. With a unlandscaped garden. What's wrong with that. Would I pay over £1million for it now. But then I prefer something with more character

The way you described it I was expecting mirrors in the ceiling and stuff

RishiRich · 17/05/2022 14:29

I thought that until I looked at the floor plan. No one actually lives in a house with do many bedrooms yet such tiny/comparatively few bathrooms, surely.

Just looks like they prioritised bedrooms when they went up in to the loft. Not everyone likes en suites

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/05/2022 14:35

It's quite bland for a family home and whoever was there has clearly moved out already but it doesn't scream brothel to me, although it would function quite well as one. It's possible it was converted for someone who has mobility problems, hence the paving and ramp at the front, the downstairs bedroom and the open plan kitchen living room.

I would worry about flooding, the house is quite a bit lower than the road and because the front is completely paved any water would get funnelled down the ramp to the house.

AmbushedByCake · 17/05/2022 14:36

The ground floor floor plan is really odd. Two bedrooms and a full bathroom as soon as you go in, with a utility room off the bathroom. And the bedrooms are super small compared to the living area. I can see why you'd think brothel. It looks normal in the photos so that bit is a good effort by the estate agent.

Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2022 14:38

They like ladders don’t they?
Im going with developer without much of a clue who has now run out of money

Mrsjayy · 17/05/2022 14:41

I quite like it minus the hot tub and the long bathroom sink I've only got 1 bathroom in a 3 bed house so not everyone has a bathroom for everyone

RishiRich · 17/05/2022 14:50

The back garden has a lot of steps for someone with mobility issues.

One tiny shower room for four bedrooms?

Maybe I just have a filthy mind but it looks like a carpark for customers, a big downstairs space for partying and then maximum bedrooms for private encounters.

I used to live near there, that is not the area for a brothel. It's close to St Albans (which is a very expensive town), motorways and a couple of railway lines. It could be for renting to single professionals who aren't keen on housework.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 17/05/2022 14:54

That's such a depressing house. Something about it feels really flat and sort of... peevish.

Or washing.

If you weird, flat, overpriced homes in St Albans you'll love this one too:

Pootles34 · 17/05/2022 15:02

A brothel would prioritise en suites.

This. I've never understood the obsession with having multiple bathrooms either.

See I really like that one. (Although it is a lot of sponds.) At least it feels like there's a singular architectural vision at work.

Cookerhood · 17/05/2022 15:10

Some of the photos look weirdly computer generated rather than actual photos but that could be because I'm on my phone.

I'm pretty sure that one was on Grand Designs or something similar....I remember thinking how bizarre the courtyards were and what a waste of space....

MiseryWIthAStent · 17/05/2022 15:13

It's boring but not brothel.
It's not too my taste, but we all like different things. And some people aren't as bothered about bathrooms, we have 1 between 4 people. We survive.

I quite like that one. I wouldn't spent a million quid on it, mind, but it's a thousand times better than the other one!

I'm on a very high resolution large monitor and and that's what it look like to me too. Especially the rear view and the 'photos' of the kitchen.

Idontgiveashitanymore · 17/05/2022 15:19

I actually like this one

chocaholic73 · 17/05/2022 15:19

While it has not been particularly well extended layout wise, I don't see what screams brothel about it. Certainly not the area (which I used to live in). All very uninspiring but a lot of space, and that's what properties cost round there.

DelorisVC · 17/05/2022 18:00

Yes, St Albans doesn’t scream brothels to me either. Coffee shops maybe but I’d be surprised if there was a brothel in the area.

DingDongBellPussysInTheWell · 17/05/2022 18:04

I would worry about flooding, the house is quite a bit lower than the road and because the front is completely paved

My immediate thoughts when I opened it were "I hope it has good drainage" the way the water would get trapped in that dropped bit at the front just screams Trouble to me.
