Am on a European citibreak with DP. Arrived on Friday. I felt ill on the plane and again in the taxi. That night I woke up with excruciating upper abdo pain (in waves, almost like contractions) and worst black liquid shits of all time. Am alternating between freezing and boiling.

No nausea or vomiting. No back pain.

Haven't eaten since Friday. Still shitting through the eye of a needle.

DP has gone out to get diaoralyte, immodium and the strongest pain relief you can buy otc here.

I would've gone to urgent care if I had had insurance but just can't afford a big bill or risk them admitting me and missing my flight.

Does it sound like pancreatitis?

I had a bit of a binge Thursday night as was end of work before our holiday and also the eurovision semi final. 1 bottle of wine and a large gin. I don't drink regularly. I eat low carb/low fat and am a bit overweight but working on losing it.

I know I'm an idiot for forgoing insurance. Believe me, will never do it again.

😭

My only experience like this was decades ago in Paris. Treatment was free of charge.
If you are I’ll, just go. Even in the US.

PinkyFlamingo · 15/05/2022 13:30

I hope you're OK OP

Loki01 · 15/05/2022 13:30

You can access healthcare. You need to call this number Outside UK: +44 191 283 3909 and ask for a PRC - Provisional Replacement Certificate.

When I was in Greece I had insurance and it wasn’t worth it. I got bloods and a check over by a doctor. It came to £125. Our excess was £120, so we didn’t bother claiming. I’d find out costs to see a doctor asap, they can be really quick over in Europe depending on the country and it’s mainly all private. Worry about price later, your life is priceless.

BlackAndPinkNose · 15/05/2022 13:43

Thinking about it, we had to get medical treatment for DS when we were abroad, two trips to a doctor, and the bill 250 euro so might not be as expensive as you think and your health is more important than risking leaving it.

MyGiddyAunt1 · 15/05/2022 13:51

You need to be seen - your health is more important

MrsMingech · 15/05/2022 13:52

Whenever people post these and never come back, I always wonder if they died. I realise that should be an "inside thought" but I'm putting it out there.

Theres that other thread recently with the woman who had a tooth cut her knee and it was swollen and painful. She went to A&E and never posted again.

Dead? Amputation? Who knows!

SailingNotSurfing · 15/05/2022 13:58

Hopefully the OP is safely in hospital receiving treatment for whatever is wrong.

3g4g5g · 15/05/2022 14:26

Thinking of you OP. Hope you are okay 💐

Bednobsbroomsticks · 15/05/2022 15:13

Thinking of you too. Worst nightmare. Please check in when better x

SouthOfFrance · 15/05/2022 16:14

MrsMingech 😧I know what you mean... does make you wonder. Hopefully not amputation in this case...

DaleTrimont · 15/05/2022 16:15

Agreeing with all the pps saying you must get seen and that you will be able to sort out a card later.
I hope the silence means that you are getting medical attention, and that you are helped.

I always think the same @MrsMingech ! I mean, internal bleeding in a foreign country and more worried about a hospital bill than death? Not a good start really, but I do hope the OP is in hospital and that's why she hasn't come back.

Iamnotokifyouarenotok · 15/05/2022 16:20

Hopefully OP is getting medical care which is why she hasn't come back.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 15/05/2022 16:30

Black stools indicate a bleed in the lower part of the digestive tract. Diverticulitis is one but it says nausea for the symptoms. My Grandad had a burst stomach ulcer which caused similar symptoms and he needed a blood transfusion. He was fine afterwards. However my Dad wasn't so lucky although his was internal bleeding from both ends. It started out with passing black stools for a few days then and then he started vomiting up litres and litres of blood and they couldn't stop the bleed. As fast as they were pumping it in the faster it was coming out. You need hospital treatment!! Stuff the cost just go and get yourself checked out and for gods sake don't take the advice of another poster and jump on the first Flight home there would be nothing worse then being taken even more ill 30 odd thousand feet up in the air

Wannakisstheteacher · 15/05/2022 16:37

It blows my mind that anyone who can afford a city break in May would risk their health rather than go to a doctor.

Lovemusic33 · 15/05/2022 16:41

I hope OP either went to hospital or managed to get a flight home 😬

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 15/05/2022 16:45

Direct line include holiday insurance in their home insurance I believe so worth checking whoever your with. Same with banks, mortgage, etc. But go to A&E

LoveinTheFastLane · 15/05/2022 16:48

It's getting a bit mawkish with so many posters asking where the OP is.

Leave her alone and she will come back if she wants to.

en route home?
holed up in the hotel?

lunar1 · 15/05/2022 17:01

I hope you are getting treatment.

The thing is if you post on here with what sounds like potentially serious health issues people are going to be concerned. Obviously if someone is in the middle of seeking medical help they can’t update people but people should expect there will be concern if it’s been put out on a public platform.

Eggshausted · 15/05/2022 17:50

Hope you got everything sorted OP.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2022 18:21

So? She doesn't owe you or anybody else an update.

If you are actually consumed by worry for somebody you've never met who posted on an anonymous forum then you should probably step back from the computer/put the phone down and go and do something else.
