Sick abroad with no insurance. Please be nice, I know I'm a dumbass

Am on a European citibreak with DP. Arrived on Friday. I felt ill on the plane and again in the taxi. That night I woke up with excruciating upper abdo pain (in waves, almost like contractions) and worst black liquid shits of all time. Am alternating between freezing and boiling.

No nausea or vomiting. No back pain.

Haven't eaten since Friday. Still shitting through the eye of a needle.

DP has gone out to get diaoralyte, immodium and the strongest pain relief you can buy otc here.

I would've gone to urgent care if I had had insurance but just can't afford a big bill or risk them admitting me and missing my flight.

Does it sound like pancreatitis?

I had a bit of a binge Thursday night as was end of work before our holiday and also the eurovision semi final. 1 bottle of wine and a large gin. I don't drink regularly. I eat low carb/low fat and am a bit overweight but working on losing it.

I know I'm an idiot for forgoing insurance. Believe me, will never do it again.

😭

Hope you went to the drs and am feeling better soon

Darbs76 · 15/05/2022 09:33

I’ve had acute pancreatitis 4 times. I couldn’t post online I was in excruciating pain. But there are different levels of attacks, some worse than others. Could be gallstones. You need to get checked out, acute pancreatitis can be fatal

SurpriseSurprise · 15/05/2022 09:38

Hope you went to get yourself sorted

I hope you're sorted. Please don't board a flight. I felt a bit icky coming back from Turkey years ago but put ot down to tiredness. During the flight I was sick several times.. on landing they wouldn't let anyone off the plane until I'd been see by medics. It was eventually diagnosed as severe food poisoning.
but got soundly told off off for boarding in the first place when really if thought a good sleep would sort it.

If the check in or gate staff realise how ill you are you probably won't won't be allowed to fly anyway.

I hope you've seen a doctor and feel better soon

PingPages · 15/05/2022 09:57

Personally I would seek medical treatment now given your description, don’t mess around with self medicating

Star81 · 15/05/2022 09:57

You need to see a doctor immediately.

Flying home in that state is very dangerous.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 15/05/2022 09:59

Please don't follow the advice of getting an early flight back - you really don't want to get worse on the plane.

As everyone has said, black stools are a sign that you could be bleeding internally and are an emergency. You need to get yourself seen by a medical professional ASAP. Worry about the money side of things later - this could be life-threatening if you continue to ignore it.

And do NOT take immodium.

TortieQueen · 15/05/2022 09:59

Hope you got seen OP Flowers

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 15/05/2022 10:04

You need to be seen. Youre unlikely to get on the plane anyway.

OneCup · 15/05/2022 10:10

My father had something similar and ended up having to have an overnight stay and a blood transfusion. He s totally fine now. I would advise not to fly back without being seen. As others have said, black stools indicate internal bleeding. Wishing you all the best

StooOrangeyForCrows · 15/05/2022 10:11

My brother di what you are proposing. He had had a stroke. He's not been right since. Get medical help.

ButtonMoonLoon · 15/05/2022 10:13

Please don’t mess around with over the counter stuff- just go to your nearest hospital urgent care facility. This is your life, and I don’t want to scare you but I do think you should be seen as soon as possible.

Harrysutton · 15/05/2022 10:13

You poor thing, some great advice on this thread. I hope you have been seen now.

Sswhinesthebest · 15/05/2022 10:22

Op, hope you are at a hospital now.

RaleighDurham · 15/05/2022 10:26

Lots of banks accounts have European travel insurance included. Check that out. We have it on both our Nationwide and Lloyds accounts.

CottonSock · 15/05/2022 10:26

France has good health care, worry about the cost later.
It doesn't sound too far different from my appendix (not trying to give diagnoses, just that you need to be seen).

Babyvenusplant · 15/05/2022 10:29

Go to the airport and get on the first flight home

Feckingfeck · 15/05/2022 10:30

jalopy · 15/05/2022 07:00

The black stools is alarming. You need to be seen urgently as you might have an internal bleed.

This... sounds like it could be an ulcer.

Get help urgently.

RishiRich · 15/05/2022 10:34

I hope you're at a hospital OP.

That would be an incredibly stupid thing to do if she has internal bleeding. Please don't throw such dangerous advice around when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Maireas · 15/05/2022 10:42

Babyvenusplant · 15/05/2022 10:29

Go to the airport and get on the first flight home

Do not do this

coffeecupsandfairylights · 15/05/2022 10:46

Babyvenusplant · 15/05/2022 10:29

Go to the airport and get on the first flight home

This is SUCH dangerous advice.

The last thing OP should do is get on a plane. She has life-threatening symptoms and needs medical care NOW.

GreenClock · 15/05/2022 10:48

I wouldn’t fly home in that situation OP. I’d be very tempted. But it could be catastrophic, so I wouldn’t.

TheRealHousewife · 15/05/2022 10:49

Hope you’re ok @ABroadAbroadandill Not meaning to alarm you, I had those symptoms and mine was due to a burst ulcer. Fingers crossed you’re getting the medical assistance you need! 💐
