Well, we are still going! And still learning about subjects new and old!

As before, only rule is no spoilers!

OP posts:

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 20 guesses with an accuracy of 70.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I'm really pleased with this one.

Dreikanter · 23/05/2022 20:44

Why? That seems so pointless.

It was a joke to wind me up
but that has made me aware that anyone can do it on mn as well

InMySpareTime · 23/05/2022 21:45

You don't even need to do that, you can just edit the copied clipboard message:

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 228 guesses with an accuracy of 44.30%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Becomes

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 1 guess with an accuracy of 100.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Lougle · 23/05/2022 21:46

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 128 guesses with an accuracy of 31.25%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I groaned when I realised the subject matter but then once i had found a partial sentence I had to Google the last word, which solved it for me.

drspouse · 23/05/2022 21:58

Didn't finish yesterday though got close.

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 93 guesses with an accuracy of 61.29%. Played at www.redactle.com/

WheelofLife · 23/05/2022 21:58

I had the second word in the title by guess 33 and thought I was doing well. I’m now at guess 195 and think I’ve exhausted all possibilities

without giving anything away, can someone tell me if I’m likely to know the first word, or should I give up now and do something productive? The general subject area is something I know very little about!

InMySpareTime · 23/05/2022 22:03

@WheelofLife it's not especially niche but is a bit specialised. Once you have the end of the first sentence after the brackets you'll have enough to Google from.

Well, they could. But why would they? That would be a pretty bizarre thing to do for the sake of an audience of anonymous posters on MN.
If you're making an accusation, maybe just say it?

Thank you! I have the last word in the first sentence and lots of interesting words elsewhere. I’ll give it a rest for a bit and if something doesn’t stir in my subconscious, Google will be my friend :)

PortiaFimbriata · 23/05/2022 22:09

18 guesses - it's a subject that was very close to the front of my mind because of what I was watching on TV with my other eye at the time.

WheelofLife · 23/05/2022 22:10

It took ages to get yesterdays. I had the ‘eating fish’ bit but when I got a bit to the bit about it rearing up on its hind legs, I spent ages thinking of bears. I didnt know alligators could do that 😂

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/05/2022 22:11

Well that took a while but I enjoyed it!

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 288 guesses with an accuracy of 19.10%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Ooh I just started playing a couple of days ago, can I join?

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 75 guesses with an accuracy of 36.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I confess that I ended up googling because I worked out what it was but not what it was called, if that makes sense.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2022 22:50

You may know the word with a different meaning not the (second word) one. I'm not sure that helps much though.

Fifthtimelucky · 23/05/2022 22:59

I failed today. Gave up today at 208 because I clearly wasn't going to guess it.

Fernsinthegarden · 23/05/2022 23:11

That was a toughy! Managed it in 98 but stumbled across a few good words early on but went on quite a journey to get to the end!

PortiaFimbriata · 23/05/2022 23:46

I struggled with the alligators because I was hoping to be able to narrow it down as mammal/amphibian/reptile/insect but in fact the word reptile wasn't in there. I had to rope in DS and DH, who are better at biology than me, and they got it from "up-on-four-limbs". I wasn't on my best form tbh, because I managed to get most of the paragraph about predation tactics, which was very obviously crocodilian, but somehow didn't twig.

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 154 guesses with an accuracy of 38.96%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Had to resort to Google on the end.

Totally the same for me!

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 24 guesses with an accuracy of 70.83%. Played at www.redactle.com/

That’s probably a love it or hate it one, depending on whether you know something about the area (I do). Weird though - I didn’t get the second (bracketed) word, which was presumably just there for disambiguation, it revealed after the first. Another one of the ones where if you’re not at least somewhat familiar with the topic matter you may not know the word.

Imnotanumber · 24/05/2022 01:52

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 260 guesses with an accuracy of 52.31%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Omg, I'm so chuffed that I worked this out without Google. There were so many blanks that I just couldn't fill. Eventually I hit on one useful word and I had it in three more guesses. I'm putting it down to my English vocabulary knowledge, not any prior knowledge of this field.

The most fun redactle for ages

GuppytheCat · 24/05/2022 06:41

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 41 guesses with an accuracy of 80.49%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Happy with that, pre-coffee and without googling

I got that it was going to be a living thing straight away from (A. [redacted]) but also fell into the trap of discounting alligator as reptile hadn't come up. I did get lots of references to south east US states though and eventually tried it on a whim.

Cooroo · 24/05/2022 08:58

I solved today's Redactle (#47) in 101 guesses with an accuracy of 54.46%.

Like some others I had to Google this or I'd never have got it. I knew what I was aiming at but it's not my field and I didn't know it was called that.

As for alligators I hoped it was antelopes because of starting with an a and having four legs! But no such luck.
