How easy is it to send a message to the wrong person by accident on WhatsApp?

I was sent a message from one of my married (male) friends who is a dad of one of my daughter's friends.

It was a picture of a gun and a question mark.

I am getting some flirtatious vibes from him which in my perimenopausal state may be all in my head…..

Anyway the message came out of the blue and had no relevance at all to me.

When I asked, it was “sent to wrong person by accident”.

I just wondered how easy that was to do as I tend to have mainly groups on WhatsApp so would click onto the group before sending the message.

I wondered if I had missed the point of the message or if it was a genuine mistake.

not that it matters either way, just curious

I've done it a couple of times when I went straight on to WhatsApp and started typing on my most recent conversation because it was still open!

That might depend on your phone, on my android phone it's equally easy to accidentally pick the wrong person even if you've never WhatsApped them as all my contacts come up when I start typing a name

I have in the past send a text to a (different) school dad by accident, meaning to send it to my friend, who’s name was similar.

I put “missed you today, hope you’re ok? Xx”. Which was pretty embarrassing!!

Sounds absolutely accidental. Not really what you'd send someone you were flirting with

@IcedOatLatte Aah see I never thought of that, everyone I WhatsApp is already sat there with an active conversation so I just scroll to the right one.

If I was opening a brand new one I'd type their name, but then I probably wouldn't open a brand new conversation with a gun emoji either, so who knows

I’ve never done it, ever but that’s only because I have OCD and I check and re check to the point of ridiculousness

I also had a strange conversation with my adult son it went on for about 5-7 minutes Via WhatsApp before I realized it was my son's father in law 😱 my son was coming in my front door when realization hit me .Oh well

I had sent a message 2 weeks before about our dcs which he had replied to at the time.

that was by text not WhatsApp.

i felt like it was harder to do it with WhatsApp as I just click on the active conversation I want to message, but obviously it’s easily done!!

I sent a pic of me swigging from a wine bottle to my professor it's all too easy 😭

I've done it a few times OP, quickly try to do a delete if I can, the message you got sounds accidental and he didn't try to start a convo with the response so it doesn't sound like he's flirting.

I sent my Grandma a text once telling her how fit she was, obviously it wasn't meant for her. Good job I didn't say anything worse than that, I nearly died.

I guess it depends on how many conversations you have, for me it's 100 times quicker to start typing the name than scroll down all the convos to find the right one

Very, especially as my whatapp has removed all the names so I just have a number and a little picture to go on
