This one seems to be going in two directions.
Anyone who's done it, is it more 985 or 995 direction?

I solved Semantle #101 in 106 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 9.54. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 18.70. semantle.com/

I solved Semantle #101 in 224 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.83. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #5. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 12.43. semantle.com/

I got there in the end. All the more galling that I got 985 and 995 in the first 10 guesses but took a further 200 guesses to find out they were the anomalies in the high numbers 😖

Oh, are they? Pants. Both of them? Apart from those I have 976 and 966 and 924, any good?

976 is perhaps the closest, but the others won't help.

985 and 995 much more helpful - I disagree that they're anomalies.

They are the same general area, but together they imply a very misleading semantic direction.
I could just about replace 985 with 1000 in a specific context, but couldn't remotely do that with 995.

People who routinely get the word in under 100 guesses with no hints - how do you do it? There are so many starting words that luck can only play a part so many times.

I'd hate to suggest that people were using two screens ( one for hints) and then posting "acceptable" results on here.

But then I'm just a suspicious, deviously minded individual.

I'm very happy with my 146 average.

On Cemantle yesterday I had over 250 colds before my first green....

@LadyOfTheCanyon Once I reach a certain level - either number of 'cold' guesses, or greens going nowhere, I will come on here for clues. I've sometimes used semantle's hints, but generally find they're not really that helpful.

I also look for synonyms on Google. But that is often not that helpful as it can take you in a completely different direction! So it's mainly to stimulate thought.

Doesn't mean that I routinely score below 100 though!

Today I just got lucky. One of my early random words was a solid green which matched well to the actual word. If you look at my angst from yesterday you will see I don't usually get it so quickly! I also got Cemantle quickly today too. This is highly unusual for me!

Quick question about Semantle stats though - this is from my stats:

First game: 52
Total days played: 47
Wins: 45
Win streak: 24
Give-ups: 0
Did not finish: 2

2 games I didn't finish were ones started on my phone before I realised I'd rather play on my laptop.

Of the other 45 games, I solved them so they are clearly 'wins'. But what does 'win streak' mean?!

True @ApolloandDaphne! Even with hints/clues it's still very possible to have a score well over 100.

A streak is the number of wins in a row.

I definitely don’t do that. It’s just a bit of distraction during my day, I don’t take it that seriously.

Ive got starter words which cover a lot of bases.
i only go for a hint if I’ve got 50 plus and no greens, although I don’t use them that often as they are a bit rubbish generally.

i google synonyms and look at clues on here if I’m stuck.

Sure, I do the same. I also have starting words that cover a lot of bases. And I Google synonyms A LOT.

Just each green I get, if nothing jumps out then I start to Google, and each word can throw up ten synonyms- and given the nature of semantle/cemantle it could be any of them. So that's a lot of input.

I'm not accusing anyone of cheating - it just occurred to me that it would be a way of keeping your stats very respectable.

You'd think with a devious mind the answers would be more plain to me!
