not too bad. A lowish green is one of my starters and fortunately was in the right theme.

I generally don't want clues either, so I don't read the thread until I'm done.

I need to find another way to access the game I guess. I usually do it through the links on the thread rather than through Google.

I will accept that I am stupid having dozens of guesses without a green, when you’re all solving it with your eyes closed. But a PP saying she wondered if this would be the answer yesterday is a bit much. Clearly I’m on a different astral plane!

I just leave it open on the browser all the time (one of my many open tabs 😂)

I just start typing "semantle" in my browser and it comes straight up.

Ha ok! I solved Semantle #100 in 121 guesses with 2 hints. My first guess had a similarity of 11.82. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #69. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 27.14 (735/1000).

hints were worse than useless - clouts anyone?

I thought I was never going to get a green for a bit there, and the ones I did eventually get weren’t particularly helpful, but eventually hit on it.

and went totally round every element of it before I realised what a fool I’d been.

Thought I was going to get it more quickly, as guess no 12 took me straight to 986, but no. Had to go all round the houses before finally getting it!

@ApolloandDaphne like @Redcrayons I tend not to come on to the thread until I'm stuck/need some help.

But I do sympathise. If I'm giving someone else a hint, especially early in the day, I try to keep it oblique. (Or will offer a PM if I can't do that, so it can be a bit more obvious).

Trouble is, something that's oblique to one person may be obvious to another, depending entirely on the greens they already have!

Got it. I was getting nowhere then suddenly got 582 as a random guess and got it from there.

some people seem to me to use hints quite early

do you have a rule?
i think i must get to well over 100 guesses before i use a hint, and then it depends, but i also have an average of 191, so far worse than most

@MrsLargeEmbodied I'm stubborn so I only took a hint once (for the debacle that was "booth") after about 500 or so guesses.

my rule is 50 guesses without a green and I’ll go for a hint.

I start reading the clues on here when I’m reaching 100 and I’m not getting anywhere.

Is this some kind of trick to put my average sky high?
