Inspired by the Healthy Habits thread

Lots of really simple and inspiring ideas on the thread started by @C1239

So I've decided to start this one as a motivator and check in of the healthy habits I'm going to try and form. Anyone want to join me?

I've chosen three, with day one being tomorrow:

30 mins walk each day

Berocca every day (need to buy some tomorrow)

No phone after 10.30pm (other than checking in with my overly sociable DS17)

Hoping that by the end of May, these will second nature!

I came across this thread because I was looking for the other one! That thread is really great with so many good but achievable ideas. I screenshot a few of them to remind me of them-especially the ones to do with a better sleep routine as I’m terrible for watching TV late at night/looking at my phone/playing a (stupid!) game in my tablet/working on my laptop -I’m a teacher and am often on it in the early hours of the morning when I should be in bed.

Your three sound good (I actually have an unopened pack of Berocca in the pantry. Must start using g it.) and it’s a great idea just to focus on three to start. So, my three will be:

No screens of any sort after 10.15pm ;

Two 750mls water bottles to be filled before bed every night and emptied by bedtime the following night.

30 min walk every day .

I did the 100 Days of Walking challenge last year and walked for over 320 days in 2021 as a result. This year I’m only up to Day 85, but am actually in my walking “gear” right now, to take the dog out!).

Good luck, @andimayormaynot 😁

(I’m starting today as it’s a bank holiday!)

Procrastination4 · 02/05/2022 10:17

Oops! Meant that, as yesterday was the 1st May, we’ve a bank holiday today so I’m starting today, same as you!

andimayormaynot · 02/05/2022 12:15

Hi @Procrastination4

Ours are similar then! I do need to up my water intake (and decrease the caffeine), but that is a challenge for another day/week/month!

I am just about to walk to my local chemist and see if they have Berocca. If not, I'll have to pop into town, but this will get my thirty minute walk in so it won't be a wasted journey.

Good luck to you!

I loved that thread and am also feeling inspired.

My 3:
2 litres water per day
No caffeine after lunchtime
No alcohol (I’ve done this in the past and always felt good for it but slipped back)

andimayormaynot · 02/05/2022 15:11

Hi @NoAprilFool and good luck!

I went to the two local chemists and they were both closed. But I came home and was looking for plasters for my heels after my walk Blush and found an unopened tube of Berocca in the bathroom drawer. So that's two ticked off for today, and saved myself a drive into town which I was not in the mood for.

Where is the other thread btw?
Sounds intriguing

PierresPotato · 02/05/2022 18:09

Not sure what to pick but it has to be exercise / activity related. Hard to find the inspiration so I need to decide on a plan and build a habit.

I have done one of the ballet classes recommended on the other thread and also been swimming today. This is far from normal for me.

so, my 3:

no snacking between meals
30 mins of some kind of exercise everyday, everything even walking counts
no phone after 10pm.

very interested in specific links to online sessions…

Juliecloud · 02/05/2022 19:10

Oh thanks for starting this thread. I am feeling so rubbish about everything at the moment, I need to do something to make me feel better about life.

The things I think will make my life better are
Declutter the house big style
More exercise
More water
Less alcohol

I will do these things starting today:

  1. Drink more water (had 2 pints today)

  2. Do 5 minutes of yoga per day

  3. Get rid of at least 1 thing per day from the house.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/05/2022 19:14

Couch to 5k 3 times a week
Menopace vitamin every day
At least 2 bottles of water a day (I'm really bad at this one)

endlesswashing · 02/05/2022 19:37

Also feeling inspired the 3 I am aiming for are:

Move more each day (a short walk or stretching excercises)
Up my water intake
Up my veg intake

doadeer · 02/05/2022 20:06

I am doing a 2 min meditation when I wake up rather than reaching straight for phone. Just a breathing one.

Orangesandlemons77 · 02/05/2022 20:53

Listen to calm app for half an hour a day
Drink more water
Walk / swim do something for half an hour a day

andimayormaynot · 02/05/2022 21:42

Good luck everyone! Remember and keep us posted with how you're doing.

Phone out of reach for me now Smile

Walk and water done, but I’ll be hard pressed to get the screens before 10.15 done, as I really want to watch a teeny bit of TV for 20mins! Perhaps I’ll change screens to “TV, 10.30, phone/tablet/laptop 10.15”😂
Best of luck everyone, with the healthy habits habit!

EatSleepReplete · 03/05/2022 07:17

I am going to start drinking more water - I'm on medication that's known to increase the risk of kidney stones & gallstones so I really should do this, I'm not very good at it. I'm also going to make more effort to put my devices down & go to sleep at a sensible time, & do some stretching every day, I used to be lovely & flexible but I'm not any more.

andimayormaynot · 03/05/2022 20:05

I suppose I better get out for my walk 🙄 Whose idea was this damn thread?

OP posts:
PierresPotato · 04/05/2022 09:17

As a massive tea drinker (with an odd coffee thrown in for variety) I'm having pint of water to sip am and another pm.
I do drink enough liquid but this way I should stop having so much caffeine and prevent any "forgetting" to drink.
Habit 1 : 2 pints water*

PierresPotato · 04/05/2022 09:19

Oh no. Try again.

Habit 1: 2 Pint of water

andimayormaynot · 04/05/2022 22:00

Day 3 and patched the walk. Just wasn't in the mood after a long day at work. Which is silly, because it's probably exactly what I needed.
