Early morning flight, what do you have for breakfast?

Do you just overpay at the airport as your on holiday or do something else?

Prices seem ridiculous at the airport for something mediocre!

Piece of toast and a cup of tea at home, I am useless without food and most likely to faint. DD may just have a glass of chocolate milk.

At the airport we get some coffee and muffins. Coffee for drinking straight away, muffin for the flight. DD will eat a yoghurt and then a muffin later.

I do have small snacks like cereal bar or a bag of biscuits but for me the coffee is part of the start of the holiday.

StrangeCondition · 29/04/2022 09:00

We usually get an overpriced, disappointing breakfast from one of the overpriced, disappointing restaurants. Last one we had was from Frankie & Benny's, all pre-cooked, cold, ridiculously expensive and what's with the child sized cutlery?! I'm flying long haul soon, hoping to get a breakfast type meal on the plane, it's the only plane food I like

SoupDragon · 29/04/2022 09:03

We treat the shit Wetherspoons breakfast as part of the holiday. DSs have it with a beer 😂

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2022 09:07

what's with the child sized cutlery

Because giving people access to steak knives after they've been searched for possession of such items would render the whole security process somewhat pointless.

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 09:18

We'll be at the airport for breakfast 5-6am.

DH wants breakfast at the airport probably Wetherspoons but I'm not so sure.

Pint of lager with obligatory Facebook photo, I thought that was the law now?

AMindOfMyOwn · 29/04/2022 09:21

At the airport for 5.00~6.00am?

id be having breakfast there. OR I would be taking something with me and I would get a cup of tea there.
Unless you are living really close to the airport, it would be too early for breakfast at home for me.

Favouritefruits · 29/04/2022 09:21

Croissant at the airport is a must! It’s part of the holiday in my book.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2022 09:24

What is available at your airport?

Just about all airport restaurant/pubs sell alcohol and pub type food, so if you chose somewhere else he'd be able to get a pint and a fry up and you could get something of your choice or just a coffee until later. Or is it the 'standing room only yelling at each other while other people knock your elbow so your drink goes all over you' experience that he's looking forward to?

One of the reasons we ended up in Giraffe last time was that both pubs were rammed at 5 am with queues for tables and Giraffe was just opening up, so much more civilised with tables available and a calmer atmosphere.

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 09:27

It's Birmingham Airport so they do have a Giraffe.

Wetherspoons brekkie with a glass or two of fizz. Starts the hols off.

MadKittenWoman · 29/04/2022 09:34

Coffee and croissants or panini at the airport and G&Ts and nuts or Pringles on the plane.

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 09:38

Would you have alcohol at 5am at the airport?

TheChosenTwo · 29/04/2022 09:39

Breakfast at the airport as we’ve usually been up for hours by then and are hungry.
at Gatwick there was a Jamie’s and a few other choices, (I haven’t flown anywhere for 2 years now, this may have changed!) - breakfast and a vodka for me! It’s holiday law 😂
or if we’ve booked a lounge then just whatever is on offer in there.
Why not just wait and see if you’re hungry when you get there? Of all the things to plan for a holiday, I wouldn’t see this as something that needed to be decided on in advance!

TheChosenTwo · 29/04/2022 09:39

Yes I would, and indeed have had alcohol in an airport at 5am! Me and many others judging by what I have seen around me!

Cervinia · 29/04/2022 09:42

I’ve had disappointing breakfast at the airport loads of times but I actually prefer making a lovely sandwich before I go (yes at 3am) and bringing it with me then eating on the plane. I don’t enjoy Breakfast at the best of times so something I like when I want to eat always sits better with me.

SoupDragon · 29/04/2022 09:47

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 09:38

Would you have alcohol at 5am at the airport?

Personally, no I wouldn't. Plenty of free alcohol on the flight though

DSs do just for the photo opportunity.

Well it's only F&B that give out small cutlery and only at breakfast time, the rest of the day it's full size, as are all the other restaurants in that terminal. Not sure where you got steak knives from, you don't tend to get steak knives with your breakfast

Floraanddougal · 29/04/2022 09:55

Glass of Prosecco and an omelette Or eggs Benedict etc in one of the cafes. Plus sone coffee on the side,

RandomQuest · 29/04/2022 09:58

We always go to Pret and get a basic croissant and coffee. I don’t like the BA galleries lounge food and no thanks to the grim airport chain restaurants.

AnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 29/04/2022 09:58

notimagain · 29/04/2022 08:45

If flying BA then use the lounge - literally the only good thing about flying BA

With the caveat that having a BA ticket doesn't automatically mean you get lounge access.

@notimagain

You aint kidding, and when you do sheesh T5 last September had no granola, no toast and when I threw in the towel and asked for a glass of sauvignon, they had no sauvignon, only pinot grigio. That coupled with the chaos that was Malaga on our return earned us £150 worth of travel miles. following a very stiff letter.

We are due to fly from T5 mid June, I am dreading it.

I have to say once we were on the plane the cabin crew were exemplary.

whoruntheworldgirls · 29/04/2022 09:59

We eat at the airport regardless of flight time, see it as the start of the holiday.

ReadyToMoveIt · 29/04/2022 10:02

It’s not something I’d really think about in advance. I’d grab something at the airport or on the flight. Or depending on the flight time just wait until I got there. Would depend how hungry I was I guess.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/04/2022 10:02

There is nothing better than an overpriced Pret sandwich at that time of the morning

Although there was a thread on here not so long ago looking for carb free options for a flight and someone suggested taking a few boiled eggs and a can of tuna on the plane with the OP Grin

summerdrinks · 29/04/2022 10:06

HandbagsnGladrags · 29/04/2022 08:13

Book airport lounge, bacon butty and G&T. Breakfast of champions.

Always this!
