Early morning flight, what do you have for breakfast?

Do you just overpay at the airport as your on holiday or do something else?

Prices seem ridiculous at the airport for something mediocre!

Had this recently with an early flight from 'rip off' Dublin airport. I made ham sandwiches and bought a coffee.

ImInStealthMode · 29/04/2022 10:09

I can't eat first thing, makes me feel sick, so I usually take something with me for when I'm ready.

Quaker porridge squares are great to drop in a bag without worrying about them getting squashed / too warm.

tuliplover · 29/04/2022 10:10

We eat at the airport (flight at 6am). When kids were small I used to bring cereal in a plastic container with milk to pour on - I knew they wouldn't last without breakfast (tired and hungry kids on a plane - nightmare).

torquewench · 29/04/2022 10:11

There is now a Greggs at Liverpool Airport. Bacon roll & latte, then a steak bake.for the plane 😋 🤣

@Pegasussnail

Dublin airport is disgraceful, and I can say that as I am from Dublin.

We get lounge access on the back of the bank account and the offerings in there are disgraceful, knock off McCambridges, not even Kerrygold butter Fgs, plastic cheese sweating away merrily in their shrink wrapped packets, olives, who in God's name eats olives first thing. Oh and as for the carrot cake....

The granola is passable, that and a glass of wine rescues it.

Beautiful3 · 29/04/2022 10:31

I buy a pack of pan au chocolate croissants, and a fruit pot. They're perfect for breakfast on the run.

Would you have alcohol at 5am at the airport?

Time doesn't count in airports.

Last airport breakfast I had was at Jamies - sausage bun and champagne. It was alright. It's part of the holiday!

Wetblanket78 · 29/04/2022 10:38

I would have breakfast at the airport. I'm usually starving by the time we've checked in and the palava of security no matter what time we have to be at the airport. If your not eating on the plane you will need something. Have to be prepared for any delays there usually is. Took my sister and brother in law 2 1/2 hours just to get through security the other week when they landed in America. Also make sure you have water. Sometimes you feel hungry but what you really need is a drink.

Nelliephant1 · 29/04/2022 10:39

Wouldn't even occur to me to have breakfast!

Butteryflakycrust83 · 29/04/2022 10:55

Totally depends on how early, and what kind of flight. Are we talking two hours to Spain or 16 hours to Singapore for a once in a lifetime trip?

I always pack food with me anyway, but I am one of those sad people who thinks the holiday starts at the airport and I love having a nice meal before we go.

Quick flight? Coffee and pret or similar.

Barkingmadhouse · 29/04/2022 11:00

Eat at the airport for any meal/snack

edwinbear · 29/04/2022 11:11

Usually book a lounge so the food and drink is included. Buying food and drinks at airport prices for 4 of us, there isn't much in it price wise, plus you can usually also nab a couple of snacks from the buffet for the flight - fruit, pastries, biscuits etc. It's also a more relaxing place to sit and chill before the flight and quite often includes fast track security.

Mine’s a Kwell and a Diet Coke plus a lot of hoping for a smooth flight

I'd probably have toast before I left and take fruit if I wanted something while at airport. I could easily be tempted to have coffee at the airport though, and if you like crossiants they often have things like that which aren't too expensive.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 29/04/2022 11:19

Airport breakfast is the best way to start any trip! I would be very excited about getting one on our forthcoming trip to Spain except I am too nervous about flight cancellations and airport chaos, especially since @AnotherTroyforHertoBurn has done the exact same route with just the results I'm dreading!

Blossomtoes · 29/04/2022 11:40

Sandwich or croissant bought in the airport to eat on the plane. The thought of alcohol first thing in the morning turns my stomach.

IsDaveThere · 29/04/2022 11:41

Breakfast at the airport, it's part of my holiday starting (as is a pint of lager at 6:00am Grin)

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 11:42

I really fancy the airport lounge but it's £93 for all of us Shock

Usually bring croissants and fruit if it is very early flight and just buy coffee once on plane or through security. Then once I reach destination I have an early lunch.
I'm not a big breakfast person though

TeeBee · 29/04/2022 11:52

If I'm in the lounge, fruit salad and pastries. If not, bircher muesli from Pret.

Shanksponyorbust · 29/04/2022 11:57

On the way out Bacon butty and hot chocolate.

On the way back whatever I’ve scrounged from the all inclusive buffet.

rookiemere · 29/04/2022 11:58

Wotagain · 29/04/2022 08:38

Damn your eyes OP, I’m now craving my favourite airport breakfast 😋

www.pret.co.uk/en-GB/products/UK006210/bircher-muesli

Me too Smile. I love Pret Bircher muesli and it's not that pricey even at the airport.

CMOTDibbler · 29/04/2022 11:59

I spend far too much of my life at Birmingham Airport early in the morning. I have a porridge from Pret or Costa (depending on gates) and a coffee. Boots have a good selection of yogurt/granola/bircher muesli things, and when the M&S simply food reopens that had very reasonable hot croissants and stuff

Babysharkdoodoodood · 29/04/2022 12:03

MsMiaWallace · 29/04/2022 09:27

It's Birmingham Airport so they do have a Giraffe.

You might want to get there a little earlier than usual. Queue for security was right down the escalator and into arrivals last Saturday.

Depending on how many of you there are you'd probably pay that for breakfast for say 4, and you can snaffle snacks for the plane too.

Check the menus there are lounges and then there are decent lounges!
