Apparently today's Russian conflagration is a power station in Sakhalin. Terrible bad luck or is the sabotage spreading east?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 30/04/2022 18:05

According to RIA 19 adults and 6 children have left Azovsteel.

Is there any confirmation on this anywhere else?

Yeh. Although I did look her up and she hasn’t been in that role since 2002. She now works in financial risk.

Sorry meant to quote @MagicFox post

MagicFox · 30/04/2022 18:11

This is not how the world should be, old men like Putin stealing it from its children. I despair. I am
now going to be in my cups for the rest of the eve Wine

@Igotjelly okay against your better advice I listened to it. I agree she definitely used all the trigger words but I don’t think she said anything we haven’t all been thinking (and in some cases discussing on here!) don’t you think it was a bit one sided on her part? Agree the horseman apocalypse part was OTT! I’m sure what she says has merit but also I guess we should remember it’s one lady’s opinion and without looking her up we don’t know what her political stance is either. I found her a bit annoying when she said we are just reassuring ourselves that a tactical nuclear weapon won’t be that bad/as bad as a strategic weapon. I think most people will be thinking “if I don’t die from it then it’s not as bad as them nuking London Paris etc” she sort of sucked any piece of hope out of me that’s for sure.

i get what she’s saying about us technically already being at war with Russia and I tend
to agree but I don’t think we will be ignoring the risk of nuclear war as a result. On the contrary I like to think there’s groups of people who analyse what the risk is…

what a time to be alive

TiddyTidTwo · 30/04/2022 18:17

"I know, but I think the thread is talking about boots on the ground Tiddy"

Boots on the ground is the last resort. But if this happens then Russia is finished.

But that means we will suffer losses along with Ukraine

Putin is absolutely playing this game to see if we bite.

There's no doubt the first station fire is reportable but I think it's hard to really work out what's going on with some of these reported fires..

Some might be sabotage , sure... Some - especially in commercial properties, might be the result of sanctions meaning certain people can no longer afford insurance payments, 😉and the other issue might be that ATM any large fire in Russia makes into the western MSM...

Igotjelly · 30/04/2022 17:52

well I warn you it scared me shitless and I’m not easily rattled.

Is that the one about the deported Ukranians or anotehr one?

YorkshireLondonMiss · 30/04/2022 18:21

@TiddyTidTwo would we bite do you think? Surely he doesn’t want that

Igotjelly · 30/04/2022 18:21

Ijsbear · 30/04/2022 18:20

Is that the one about the deported Ukranians or anotehr one?

Yeh but it starts with a discussion with an ex NATO person on the risk of nuclear war.

the second big about deported Ukrainians was far more interesting and less terrifying.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 30/04/2022 18:22

@Ijsbear yes the first 10-15 mins of that one. Might have to have a glass of wine now!

MagicFox · 30/04/2022 18:22

That's what I'm doing @YorkshireLondonMiss !

TiddyTidTwo · 30/04/2022 18:27

Yorkshire

I think we will. We want to see Ukraine do it, with our help but if Ukraine can't do it then we cannot let him take Eastern Europe through Ukraine. The Eastern Europeans know it already, they've lived it and don't want to go back down that road.

Igotjelly · 30/04/2022 18:31

Anyone else just wish they could turn off from the news but can’t because it’s like crack 😭

Heh yes.

But I think that woman needs a tranquillizer.

She has some points; sending those missiles while Guterres was in Kyiv was making a point. But I think she's probably also a very exitable woman and is significantly overstating the risks.

They are there, no doubt. But she's speaking like it's a foregone conclusion and it really really isn't.

She was irritating.

I’m so glad you say that. It was my initial reaction then when they didn’t have anyone discussing the alternative I wondered if I was missing something massive.

Ijsbear · 30/04/2022 18:48

I don't think you are no. She was making a point and considerably overegging the pudding until it became a mess and frankly unbelievable. Did her basic premise no good by so much overexaggeration imo.

Again - remember that Putin wants us to be scared. He will keep on mentioning nuclear every day or two to make sure we are.

Ukraine has to fight bullets and bombs that Putin's sent. We have to fight the fear that he's sent. Both are dangerous; morale is half the battle. Putin's trying to destroy ours.

Ijsbear · 30/04/2022 18:50

The programme really could have done with a more balanced viewpoint after, that's the problem here. They should have done better.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 30/04/2022 18:51

@Igotjelly it’s like a cloud hanging over my head!

@Ijsbear I’m glad you said that too - I don’t think we should understate the risks and it’s important to acknowledge they are there. Logically I know there are other potential outcomes but my monkey brain has gone back to its usual “if the Russians say nuclear war should be avoided then that must mean they want nuclear war” panic after the latest two more oddly rational sounding statements they’ve come out with about it 😂 my brain hurts. I’m torn between being like you can’t do anything about it and logically you’d probably not know much about it if it happened what with living in London. My real fear isn’t of dying but it’s the sheer terror of the 20 minutes before hand knowing what’s coming OR surviving and it being awful. That’s why I honestly cannot begin to imagine how it must be living in Ukraine and I think the people there have the most incredible resilience and bravery to withstand living in fear like that. I wish I were brave.

YorkshireLondonMiss · 30/04/2022 18:54

@TiddyTidTwo thank you for your input - I read the thread you linked and I couldn’t understand it! I feel for the Eastern Europeans. It will be an interesting time (I say interesting I mean anxiety inducing for me) if and when NATO do get involved. Maybe my cue to run away to the Southern Hemisphere.
