@TiddyTidTwopotential attacks on Odesa?

That would be my assumption. Reports that the runway at the airport in a Odesa has been taken out today so clearly they’re laying groundwork for something.

TiddyTidTwo · 30/04/2022 17:28

Potentially. And Odessa airport has just been hit.

Don't take my word for it though I'm talking to one ex RAF chap who knows his stuff and he spoke on the link I just posted on here, this morning

TiddyTidTwo · 30/04/2022 17:29

Cross posted with Lg

MSM is not the place to go. I've been listening to the WR the last 5 days and far more info there

@MagicFox I can only find this www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-says-strategic-stability-dialogue-with-us-formally-frozen-tass-2022-04-30/ but have no idea what frozen means

15.31 BST
Moscow believes risk of nuclear war should be kept to a minimum, Russian foreign minister says
Reuters has more detail on an earlier line from a Russian foreign ministry officialwho said that Moscow believes the risks of nuclear war should be kept to a minimum.
The Tass state news agency cites Vladimir Yermakov, the foreign ministry’s head of nuclear non-proliferation, as saying all nuclear powers had a duty to stick to the logic enshrined in joint official documents aimed at avoiding nuclear war. It quotes him as saying:
The risks of nuclear war, which should never be unleashed, must be kept to a minimum, in particular through preventing any armed conflict between nuclear powers. Russia clearly follows this understanding.”
The official documents Yermakov refers to are a joint statement published in January by Russia, China, Britain, the US and France, in which the five countries – which are the permanent members of the UN security council – agreed that the further spread of nuclear arms and a nuclear war should be avoided.
The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said on Monday that the danger of nuclear war was “serious”, though the US then said it did not believe there was a threat of Russia using nuclear weapons despite an escalation in Moscow’s rhetoric.

Anyone’s guess what game their trying to play here. Who knows, maybe China are getting twitchy about all the rhetoric.

Well I certainly wouldn’t listen to Ukrainecast today if you’re of a nervous disposition.

MagicFox · 30/04/2022 17:45

Yeah there was talk of it on Twitter being a bit reckless in its talk, haven't listened yet

I would genuinely avoid it.

As this thread shows, the real danger (of nuclear escalation) comes if NATO gets directly involved: twitter.com/edwardstrngr/status/1520062123413409793?s=21&t=6Rlvxrn7GghnmDG0CX_Xbw

This is a fascinating account 2017 by Katya Soldak of her childhood and adolescence in Kharkiv under the USSR up until the 1990s.

It really shows how this era in Russian history is hardly past; and also the extraordinary difference between their lives then, and ours.

Fascinating, thank you for sharing. I could have written this article myself, my childhood was identical, I believe I am also the same age as the author. I’m from Donetsk. Even my nursery new year celebration photos look identical to that shared in the article.

Someone asked why there seems to be such nostalgia from the older generation about “the good old days in the USSR” - this article explains it well. People’s lives were predictable and everyone was more or less the same. There was security in that. When Soviet Union collapsed that security was taken away and many of the older gene ever got over it. They are the ones who worship putin, still.

Yes it was. The sensible part of me doesn’t agree with her analysis and I think ignores lots of other variables but she was definitely using the trigger words. Likened the last few years to the horsemen of the apocalypse.

TiddyTidTwo · 30/04/2022 17:59

Magic. NATO is involved. Putin knows it too. We are involved in every way apart from boots on the ground. And he's losing.

He's a bully and the only way he will back down is through strength on our side and we can do that without boots on the ground. He knows it too.

NATO boots on the ground Russia is finished. I absolutely believe in what we are doing. He calls our bluff it's over for him.

She also basically says that western leaders are refusing to admit that they’re at war with Russia and are ignoring the risk of nuclear war/burying their head in the sand. To me that sounds like utter bollocks - there will be people thinking about it regardless of the risk level.
