Do you have a favourite stretch of coastline in the UK ?

By UK, I mean Scotland and its islands, Northern Ireland, England, Isle of Man, Wales and the Channel Islands. I'm not well-travelled and have only seen parts of the Yorkshire coast, parts of Dorset and a little of Devon. So I'm really seeking opinions on what's nice and perhaps not so nice around our islands.

So much to choose from!

We went around the very north of scotland and the beaches were white sand and crystal clear water, lush.

I also love the jurassic coast, around West Bay. Those cliffs!

Northumberland coast round Bamburgh is beautiful.
Birling Gap is fabulous and the coastline along to Beachy Head.

The coast around Falmouth, Cornwall is gorgeous. Pendennis Head is awe inspiring. Endless beautiful walks around there.

Also, the Pembrokeshire coast - some amazing walks and lots of pretty beaches.

I personally also love the area around Swanage and Corfe castle, some lovely ridge walks.

During lockdown, we discovered the Kent coastline. Being a corner of England, there’s so many beaches to choose from - sandy, shingle, towns, villages etc. Even now, we find a stretch of the coast to walk along most weekends.

I’d second Northumberland - amazing scale to the coast and country.

cornwall’s Atlantic coast is dramatic and great, but busy, you get similar and less busy with the gower peninsula in Wales.

Northern Ireland’s north coast is dramatic and great for surfing (wetsuit)

I third Northumberland! Wide open sandy beaches, barely a soul there.

The Jurassic coast for sure. The coastal path walk from Sandy Bay to Sidmouth especially.

Thankyou all. I forgot to mention I've seen a little of the North Wales coast around Criccieth and Abererch but not for over forty years. On holiday there, we went to a place called Hell's Mouth which is supposed to be quite dramatic but I can't remember a thing about it.

The thing with any coastline is its variety, from quaint villages like Robin Hood's Bay to brash towns like Blackpool. Both tourist traps. Then rugged cliffs in Cornwall to rolling dunes in Studland. Then, of course, there are the ports and dockyards and expensive marinas. A bit of everything.

Agree with Northumberland and specifically Bamburgh. Such a beautiful, big beach.

For Scotland, where I live, the north coast is amazing. Clachtol beach is beautiful - see pic - but I do love remote, empty beaches.

Charmouth- beautiful and so much to do: hunt fossils, eat chips, look in the visitors centre, eat ice cream, dip in the little channel, eat cake, walk up the cliff... Definitely my favourite.

I do like Marazion too though.

Anywhere in Wester Ross, Nothumberland, Gower, lots of Cornwall but especially Daymer Bay. We're off to the Llyn Peninsula in the summer to stay near Hells Mouth.

Northern Ireland- Causeway Coast in Antrim and the Strangford Lough area in Down. North Down has a pretty good coastline too.

I've seen pictures of Tynemouth and Cullercoats in Northumberland or Tyne and Wear - whatever it's called now. They look smart enough but I've also seen the dirty beach at the end of Get Carter where Carter sees Eric off. It looked grim but I expect it's improved after fifty years.

Like a pp, my favourite beach is Harlech. The whole coast from Aberdyfi to Harlech is lovely - best seen from the train.

Pembrokeshire has lovely beaches too.

Poppit Sands, Cardigan is another.
