Do you have a favourite stretch of coastline in the UK ?

By UK, I mean Scotland and its islands, Northern Ireland, England, Isle of Man, Wales and the Channel Islands. I'm not well-travelled and have only seen parts of the Yorkshire coast, parts of Dorset and a little of Devon. So I'm really seeking opinions on what's nice and perhaps not so nice around our islands.

North Norfolk. I could be biased as I have a house there. If you go to the sandy beaches of Mundesley, Bacton, Happisburgh, Sea Palling. It’s amazing in the summer.

Coyoacan · 22/04/2022 20:45

I love the Antrim Coast Road

MaryAndHerNet · 22/04/2022 20:48

I have a few.

One that I was most most surprised about is near Hull. It's called Spurn Point.
It's not "sea sidey" with donkeys and Rock Shops etc. It's just a miles and miles and miles of wide beaches and sea. It's an amazing place, love it there.

DontKeepTheFaith · 22/04/2022 20:55

I love so much of the UK coast, it’s awesome.

Anglesey, Northumberland, North Yorkshire coast, Kent, Southend, Isle of Wight, Lymington in Hampshire, Cornwall, East Sussex where the South Downs meet the sea. Just love being by the sea😎😊

Bay of Skaill, Orkney.

This was going to have been a post with links in but the new site mangled everything so I'm recommending googling links and images for Skaill House and Skara Brae (neolithic settlement) ;)

West Wittering beach in West Sussex is by far the nicest beach we’ve been to in the UK, probably because it’s privately maintained but it is immaculate with sand dunes and blue flag rated.

Second Croyde bay, woolacombe and Saunton sands in Devon.

Saundersfoot and newgale in Wales

I loved the seaside at Deal. Pebble beach but lovely in an old fashioned kind of way.

The beaches in Northumberland are beautiful, especially the one as you walk up to Dunstanborough. Park at the golf club and walk from there.

Also the walk from Whitby to Staithes along the coast.

Anderby creek in Lincolnshire.

Gorgeous all of them

Aberdeen to Edinburgh, going by train at times you are only a metre or two from the edge and it is just stunning

JollyWilloughby · 22/04/2022 21:33

Pembrokeshire.

EBearhug · 22/04/2022 21:35

Dorset (I grew up there.) But have also particularly enjoyed Pembrokeshire and Westeross. And I was very taken with Northern Ireland last September, driving round the whole coast route, though the water at Portrush was definitely colder than the Channel. I still swam. Beautifully clear and great for rockpooling.

It'd probably be easier to ask which bits if British coast should you avoid, as that's probably a shorter list.

Seaham (Country Durham), to Roker/Seaburn in Sunderland, to Whitburn, to Marsden to South Shields (South Tyneside). An overlooked lovely coastline.

AmbushedByCake · 22/04/2022 21:42

Some parts of the Essex coast are wildly underrated. Stunning silvery sand beaches and crystal clear water. Let it stay underrated!

bloodywhitecat · 22/04/2022 21:43

Wells-Next-the-Sea or Horsey Gap. Horsey Gap isn't much of a beach for beach activities but it is brilliant for seal watching

Antrim coast road, Strangford Lough.

Justkeeppedaling · 22/04/2022 21:45

Gower peninsula, without a doubt.

LuluBlakey1 · 22/04/2022 21:47

Northumberland - it's huge empty beaches, castles on the coast, big skies, beautiful sand and no one there. Favourite- Budle Bay to Berwick, including Holy Island, Ross Back Bay and Cheswick.
DH and I took the 3 DC to Cheswick beach this week. No one was there apart from an old couple sitting on deck chairs, behind a windbreak with their hat and coats on sunbathing. Miles of sand, rockpools, dunes. Holy Island in view. Nothing else- no facilities. Bliss.

37GoingUnder · 22/04/2022 21:58

@91BlackCat yep, I also love Roker, Seaburn, Whitburn and Seaham. Tynemouth and Cullercoats are fab. Druridge Bay in Northumberland is my favourite. I also love Beadnell, we’re so spoilt for beaches in the North East.

Happenchance · 22/04/2022 22:05

Newborough beach and forrest is worth a visit.

HardStareBear · 22/04/2022 22:24

North East Scotland. So many beautiful beaches and many of them practically empty. Just beautiful.

North Devon, all of it but particularly around Croyde and Braunton.

We visited Croyde and area last summer in our campervan. Absolutely amazing beaches

WildRosie · 22/04/2022 22:27

It is good to see our appreciation of the British seaside is alive and well.

Coppetts Hall Bay. Beautiful. If the tide is out you can walk along the beach to Saundersfoot for a Mr Whippy.

ButtockUp · 22/04/2022 22:29

North Northumberland.

GuyFawkesDay · 22/04/2022 22:29

West coast of Ireland, cliffs of Moher and that while stretch is breathtakingly beautiful. Not much beach to sit on, mind!

Love Portreath, Gwithian on North Cornwall for family beaches. Poppit Sands in Cardigan is great too.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/04/2022 22:32

North Tyneside and Northumberland as it's home. I also love the Scottish Borders, especially St Abbs and Coldingham Bay. I have a fondness for the East Neuk of Fife. I adore the Aberdeenshire coast around St Cyrus up to Stonehaven but most of all I love the Rhins of Galloway.
