I asked for dinner advice yday and got so may lovely suggestions, so I'm back for more lol. Something quick and easy bung it in the oven no effort- what's your go to? Mine is usually a chicken, carrots and potato all cooked together and then add stock at the end to turn into a gravy. That's too much effort today though!

Fry onion in rice cooker

After about 10 mins, add risotto rice, stick and wine

When rice is cooked, add prawns and frozen peas

Cook until peas are ready

Risotto with no fuss

Pork, Sage and Apple Casserole.
4 Apples
1 Big onion
Diced Pork or Pork Chops
Sage - fresh or dried
Pork, Ham, Chicken or Veg Stock
Use an apple cutting ring to slice 4 apples and a big onion - saves alot of faff. Then layer ingredients in this order onions, sage, apple, sage, pork, sage. Cover with stock. Cook for 90 minutes.
Optional - Add dumplings 20-30 minutes before end.

Have on it's own but also goes ok with microwave rice or boiled spuds.

Can also cook it in a pressure cooker or instant pot for 30 minutes or in a slow cooker for 6/8 hours.

Er they're not all oven ones, but quick and easy ones I do because I have very low tolerance for anything longer than 20 minutes are:

pasta bake from a jar/sachet
tortelloni with the sauce (as part of a deal)
stir fry
curry (rice in the rice cooker so i just leave it to do its thing)
fajitas
those soft stuff taco things
Salmon in the oven and then one of those microwave herby potato packs or microwave root veg mash, plus an easy veg like kale or a corn on the cob that you can just bung in the oven at the same time as the salmon

@StellaAndCrow

Could I ask a gnocchi question please? People have mentioned frying or adding to oven tray - do you have to boil them first? I've never thought of doing them any way except boiling and adding some kind of sauce, your ideas sound great.
Fried in butter is the best way. Just pretend the calories don't exist...

I make a chorizo, tomato and basil sauce and drizzle over or make into a gnocchi bake but always fry them first.

Not in the oven but beans on toast, takes less than 5 mins, add grated cheese if you wish. A Very underrated quick meal.

Easiest and most delicious pudding = hot cross bun bread and butter pudding:

Slice hot cross buns in half
Spread with marmalade
Cut in half again
Bung in ovenproof dish
Pour over tub of ready made custard
Leave to soak 10 mins
Cook in oven around 180 degrees till browned on top - about 30 mins?

Gwenhwyfar · 19/04/2022 17:10

@hopeishere

A ready meal!
Cook it in the microwave, much less time and effort. Or maybe you can't get a big one into the micro?

Gnocchi bake from the first (yellow) green roasting tin book. So easy and so quick to adapt with different ingredients too!

Also, Mexican bake from the BBC good food website. A touch more effort but a really quick and easy dinner 🥰

sausage pasta- squeeze the sausage meat out of some sausages into a frying pan and break it up and brown it. The add a jar of tomato sauce. It works well with amitriciana. In meantime cook your pasta then combine.
Pesto pasta but add spinach leaves, pine nuts and prepoached salmon.

Both recipes take less than 15 minutes and look like you've made an effort.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 19/04/2022 17:15

Couscous with salmon + veg.
Prepare couscous, Cut up some veg(onion/carrot/celery normally) and spread on top of couscous. Place salmon fillet on top. Season with salt/pepper/herbs. Squeeze some lemon juice and olive oil. Cover it with foil. Into the oven.
Quick and easy.

OxanaVorontsova · 19/04/2022 17:16

Roasted veg, mini potatoes, add protein of choice, usually chicken sausage or halloumi here

Whydidimarryhim · 19/04/2022 17:16

Tuna pasta and sweetcorn. You can get 5 mins quick cooked pasta from Tesco - boil - add in sweetcorn to warm through - drain - open tin of tuna drain it and mix it in.
Sometimes just spaghetti and grated cheese.
Pizza
Frozen fish and chips.

OxanaVorontsova · 19/04/2022 17:17

Plus whatever flavouring you fancy, harissa, pesto, garlicky herbs etc

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/04/2022 17:19

I do a tray of courgette slices, chopped up aubergine, tin of chopped toms and some herbs/olive oil. Roast it for 20 mins and then put some big fat halloumi slices on the top for a further 5 mins or until they go squeaky!
Nadiya's chicken schwarma - chicken thighs in loads of spices, packed into a greased loaf tin. Takes 35 mins in my oven but then it's just wraps and slaw with it.

wordler · 19/04/2022 17:26

Roast chicken with roast vegetables.

reesewithoutaspoon · 19/04/2022 17:26

20 oz cherry tomatoes
block of feta
4 garlic cloves
1/2 cup of olive oil
basil
chili flakes
put tomatoes in a baking tray, add garlic, and place block of feta in centre of tray, sprinkle with basil and chili

cook 30 mins 200c. meanwhile, cook pasta, drain and keep back about 1/2 cup of pasta water

when tomatoes are cooked, mix with the feta, add pasta water if it's too dry
mix with pasta.
easy and tastes really good

RosstopherGeller · 19/04/2022 17:27

Not a bung in oven but very low Preparation and cook time

Chicken breasts in creme fraiche and mustard with noodles
Also needs chopped onions and mushrooms
Quick cook medium noodles are my preference

Cook chicken breasts in frying pan first, the Sainsbury quick quick ones are my super-cheat. Set aside.
Cook the onions and mushrooms then when softened, add the creme fraiche and mustard for couple of minutes

Then Add the noodles then add the chicken for a couple more minutes

A bit light on vegetables so just serve with virtuous thoughts.

reesewithoutaspoon · 19/04/2022 17:27

drizzle the olive oil over tomatoes and feta. missed that bit out

RosstopherGeller · 19/04/2022 17:28

Forgot seasoning but just usually salt and pepper

Vimto1991 · 19/04/2022 17:28

These all sound lovely, I’m starting to think my idea of bung it in the oven is too simple. Probably chicken tenders and chips 😂😂

ItsYabbaDabbaDoTime · 19/04/2022 17:29

Cheats Hamburger - makes 4 approx 1/4 pounders

500g 20% fat beef mince,
1 pkt chopped onion
salt,
pepper

Shape mince into large ball, add 2 tablespoons chopped onion with salt and pepper. Knead together

Shape into 4 burgers

Cook for 15- 20 mins in 180 degrees oven with tray of frozen fries on lower shelf

When cooked build your own burger using sauces, buns, lettuce, gherkins, cheese etc

starfishmummy · 19/04/2022 17:29

Not oven but slow cooker (but could be oven) is some sort of casserole. I dont brown anything, just throw in meat, carrots, onion and a pack of casserole mix and then forget about it. About 40 minutes before eating I mix up some dumplings (pack of mix) and rather than rolling them into even sized balls, I make it a little sloppier and drop spoonfuls into the liquid. A green veg or two and that's it.
