What's your 'bung it in the oven' no effort dinner?

I asked for dinner advice yday and got so may lovely suggestions, so I'm back for more lol. Something quick and easy bung it in the oven no effort- what's your go to? Mine is usually a chicken, carrots and potato all cooked together and then add stock at the end to turn into a gravy. That's too much effort today though!

Have downloaded that sausage traybake recipe - sounds delish - thanks for that

CheapFoodShits · 20/04/2022 19:16

Not in the oven, but I chuck pasta and frozen veg (usually broccoli, spinach, peas, sweetcorn) in a pan together, boil it for ten minutes and then throw some cheese on when it's drained.

VikingLady · 20/04/2022 19:19

Beef casserole. Sliced onions, topped with diced beef, then stock and root veg. Leave it on 110C all day, then just add a bit of cornflour for gravy.

Or burnt onion chicken! Burn your onions to the pan because you had to deal with the kids, add more fat and some flour then red wine to make a rough roux, then drop raw chicken in. Lid on, eat it when it's done.

We’ve always got
leftovers in the fridge and homemade ready meals in the freezer but if that weren’t the case I’d do pasta with cream cheese and chilli powder stirred through and frozen peas. Maybe some tinned sardines in there too.
or instant mash, beans and fried egg is a fave of the children.
if my husband was required to be fed I guess breaded fish/chicken/fray bentos pie/mr brains faggots/frozen pizza

kennycat · 20/04/2022 19:32

However I absolutely loved be banging away with my pots and pans so i never have days when I can’t be bothered to
cook!
im in no way a great chef but I thoroughly enjoy it.

Rosscameasdoody · 20/04/2022 19:47
  1. Chilled breaded plaice from Tesco cooked in the oven with Aunt Bessie’s steak cut oven chips, and served up with tinned mushy peas and bread and butter.
  2. Roll out a sheet of puff pastry and cut a one inch border all the way around. Prick the base with a fork and bake it until light brown and the edges have puffed up. Spread with sun dried tomato paste or a jar of pizza sauce, scatter on some chopped peppers and onions and a pack of sliced pepperoni. Top with sliced or grated mozzarella and bake until the cheese is bubbling. Good with a baked potato or a salad.
  3. Spread some chicken portions with some sun dried tomato paste mixed half and half with chilli sauce. Place in a baking tray along with blanched halved new potatoes and whatever other veg you like. Drizzle with oil and season well. Bake until chicken is cooked through and veg is tender.
Hungry now.

I tried one of those Maggi bags the other day and was so impressed! It has serving suggestions on the package but you can put in anything you like.

IwantKandixxx · 20/04/2022 20:02

Not oven - but my teenager's fav quickest meal is to cook herself pasta then add a tin of tomato soup, tin of tuna, tin sweetcorn then grated cheese on top!

Honeyzest · 20/04/2022 20:13

What a great thread. I’ve probably got a few but everyone else’s are way better and I will be trying so many of them
One if my kids has taken to making egg fried rice. 2 min ping rice, into a wok, crack some eggs in, shuffle it around, soy sauce, siracha to taste
can also add peas (but she hates them) or other veg
can serve as main or with chicken (wrap in foil with any Chinese sauce, cook in oven and then shred it)

Sadbri · 20/04/2022 20:23

My go to on a lazy night is literally Cheesie Beanie Pasta. Sounds gross but my kids and I love it. Just cook the pasta, once cooked let it drain. While it’s draining throw a can of beans in the saucepan, add grated cheese, add in the pasta, mix and serve. Done and dusted in 15 mins.

Mischance · 20/04/2022 20:26

Buy ready-made pie base - bung in tuna with garlic and mayo - cover with cheese - bung in oven and serve with salad and maybe baked potatoes.

Eightytwenty · 20/04/2022 20:33

Chicken fillets - cut up anyhow (or pieces). Diced aubergine. Add a tablespoon or two of sweet chilli sauce and same quantity of soy sauce and a dribble of oil. So tasty and v easy. I used to make satay to go with it but that was too much work.

WhackusBonkuss · 20/04/2022 20:37

Baked salmon.. baste it with some spices and/or a bit of Marmite if that’s your thing.. spray with Fry Lite.. loosely wrap in foil and bake in oven for 18 mins or so.

Meanwhile, boil a bag of boil-in-the-bag rice and some mixed frozen veg for the same amount of time. Mix when together when done.

Serve.

Its even free on Slimming World in case anyone cares

Looks yum, but DH won't eat anything that is 'dry'. Unless covered in gravy, parsley sauce or similar he would be horrified. Seriously constrains my meal options.....

purplevamp · 20/04/2022 22:31

Aldi's Peri Peri Chicken King Kebab. It's £5 (Shock) but it is so good. We just put it in the oven and have it with a salad. There's always left overs which we have for lunch the next day. It's in the frozen section.

Pasta bake or lasagne. If I'm feeling a bit crazy I'll throw in a garlic flatbread for good measure!

Lasagne is on my high effort list. How are you making it?

Luckyelephant1 · 20/04/2022 22:54

This is such a good thread, I've got loads of inspiration now, might actually write down my faves on paper and put it on my fridge door to force me to try them.

Mines not oven but very easy. Vegetable rice. Cook rice as normal but with a few handfuls of frozen mixed veg, stock and spices such as cumin, coriander. Make a quick raita to accompany it (chopped cucumber and coriander plus a few spices in Greek yoghurt). Serve with your gave chutney or Indian pickle on the side. Very flavoursome and pretty nutritious, hardly any effort.

EmpressoftheMundane · 21/04/2022 00:17

Tuna pasta:
fry up canned tuna with chopped black olives, capers, garlic, chopped parsley and squeeze of lemon. (Could add chilli flakes if you like.)

Takes 3 minutes to fry. Tipped drained spaghetti in and mix. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese.

I've already said! I buy it as a ready meal for two in the supermarket. The OP specifically asked for "no effort" dinners.

i missed where you said that.

You and I have interpreted the OP differently. I think it’s obvious, if you read it properly, OP wasn’t asking for a list of ready meals.

Rosscameasdoody · 21/04/2022 09:41

Quick lasagne recipe. A couple of tins of sainsburys minced beef with onion, mixed with chopped sun dried tomatoes, a tablespoon of tomato purée, a chopped red pepper and your favourite herb (I use torn fresh basil leaves) - add a splash of red wine and season. Grease a square dish and layer up the mince with the no pre cooking variety of lasagne sheets. End with a layer of pasta, top with supermarket fresh cheese sauce and grate on the cheese of your choice. Bake for about 30-40 minutes until cooked through and bubbling.

Charming. She wants asking for meals which would take an hour to prepare either but plenty of people suggested them and I don't see you bitching about them!

Cryingintherain99 · 21/04/2022 11:28

Staffordshire oatcakes - my Gran used to make her own - with cheese and bacon/ sausage/ tomato.
It was only as a young adult that I realised they didn't sell them outside Staffordshire/ Stoke-on-Trent when we went on holiday and I started searching the supermarkets for them!

UpYourBumHun · 21/04/2022 12:04

@Cryingintherain99 What are these beauties of which you speak Grin can you make them at home ? I want a recipe and I don't care how long they take to make. They sound lush
