Please would someone tell me how to find ‘search’ for past posts and subjects with dates? I used by be able to find this I using the magnifying glass. Now it seems there is only an option for a more vague search.

The search function also gives me grief

I am using a laptop/Chrome so I don't know if it is different on the app.

Whereas previously you could narrow the search upfront using filters, you now have to do a vague 'google' search first and get thousands of results but on the left column, there are various ways to filter the searches results including by topic, posted by and creation date. Hopefully that makes sense.

What is slightly annoying is the teaser text in the search result only shows the first post and not the 'hit'. Maybe I am searching all wrong or my settings have gone skewiff.

This Guardian article is interesting about how more Facebook posts questioning the Bucha atrocities are shared than are those believing and expressing outrage.

it almost seems as though they are framing it as a sort of civil war in UKraine, with the atrocities being committed by Ukrainians against the mass of beleaguered Ukrainians the Russians are ‘helping’.

Facebook posts disputing Bucha atrocities shared 208,000 times in a week | Ukraine | The Guardian

amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/21/facebook-posts-disputing-bucha-atrocities-shared-208000-times-in-a-week

A report by Human Rights Watch has documented cases of apparent execution of civilians in Bucha, while the Guardian has also reported witness accounts of widespread violence.
^Posts questioning evidence of Russian violence against civilians were present in Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic, among other EU countries.
The most shared post about Bucha in Austria – also the third most shared post in Germany – contained text copied from a pro-Russian German language outlet called Anti-Spiegel.^
Echoing a Russian interpretation of the events, the post suggested that the victims were in reality killed by the Ukrainian army as a punishment for their support of the Russian army.

Troll farms and shills aren’t allowed to share posts about the horrors, only the lies put out by Russia and posts that back them up or discredit Ukraine version of events.

There's a massive fire at the Russian Aerospace Research Institute in Tver, with at least one person killed. Accident or accident?

Hmmmm.

Is Tver, which is in Russian territory, close enough to the Ukraine borders for Russia to blame-not-blame it on Ukraine/NATO? I wonder what is the range of Ukraine's missiles

Estonia, first country to recognise Russia's acts as genocide

Parliament of #Estonia adopted the statement "On the War Crimes and Genocide committed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine". We call on national parliaments and int organisations to recognise the crimes committed by 🇷🇺against 🇺🇦 people as genocide. Help 🇺🇦to stop genocide!

This. 100%

EsmaCannonball · 21/04/2022 13:14

Re: the fire in Tver. If I were to stage a false-flag attack, I wouldn't choose something as useful or legitimate as a military research facility. However, the Russians are truly batshit and don't think with regular logic. It is possible that this fire has a conventional cause but they may take advantage of the situation and blame Ukraine or fifth columnists, using the latter as an excuse to purge people.

I suppose the options for the fire are:

Something ordinary - a faulty fridge, discarded cigarette, etc..
Something they were working on exploded
An act of sabotage
Ukrainian military action

I hope it's sabotage.

Natsku · 21/04/2022 13:28

Well done Estonia for calling it what it is.

I also hope its sabotage, would be wonderful if there's Russian 5th columnists sabotaging away.

James Waterhouse AT jamwaterhouse
Ukraine's s demanding Russia lets 1000 civilians and 500 wounded soldiers leave Mariupol's Azovstal plant.

"They all need to be taken out today!" said Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on Telegram.

Vladimir Putin's ordered his troops to seal the area so even a "fly" cannot escape.

I worry that if Putin says he will cease Russian forces trying to go into the tunnels and then encircling the mariupol steelworks means that Putin is going to start using chemical weapons or nastier in that area.

ScrollingLeaves · 21/04/2022 13:44

It will take a lot of Russian soldiers to encircle the steelworks of 11sq km. Would it mean using every Russian soldier in Mariupol to do so?

If only a circle of Ukrainian soldiers could surround the Russian encirclers.

ScrollingLeaves · 21/04/2022 13:47

@blueshoes thank you for your answer about how to use the search tool.

Going by thosevi know you would only need one circle.

Igotjelly · 21/04/2022 14:24

sky news reporting 17% of Ukraine’s population are displaced. Clearly that’s 17% too many but for some reason I thought it would be more at this stage.

That was my immediate thought
EsmaCannonball · 21/04/2022 14:54

Some Ukrainians are claiming that the Russians are still attacking Azovstal.

HappyWinter · 21/04/2022 15:07

There's a crossover between Putin supporters, anti-vaxxers and climate change denial (anti-vaxxers and climate change deniers went quiet at the start of the invasion as they were diverted to supporting Russia).

Igotjelly · 21/04/2022 15:13

“No chance” of civilian evacuations from the steel plant today according g to Mariupol’s mayor.

Shuuu · 21/04/2022 15:32

If they seal that plant it’ll be interesting to see what happens. Are we really going to watch people starve to death? I totally understand our situation but surely we can’t stand back and watch more & more happen. How cruel to think there are civilians & children sheltering there

herecomesthsun · 21/04/2022 15:33

Either that, or there are vested interests uniting some of these things.

There is a plausible reason for Russia to have encouraged Brexit for example; it is plausible that there were positive aspects for some agencies in a West divided on how to manage covid, or with a large section of the population not benefitting from vaccines, and so on.

Igotjelly · 21/04/2022 15:53

Just seen that Joe Biden has been saying that k you to the journalists on the ground in Ukraine. Not often they get the praise they deserve. Many of them voluntarily risking their own lives to make sure the World knows the truth.

They aren't the first civilian hostages without food, water or heat and they won't be the last. The steel plant is just a smaller representation of what Mariupol has been for weeks. It's utterly barbaric and I can barely read about it.
