Yellow cars, Is this a thing?

All the students at work, told me that if you see a yellow car you pretend punch someone. And say yellow car no returns. I've never heard of it.

Yes we have adult kids and still play it. We have amnesty in places like Bournemouth, which is littered with yellow taxis.

My son when younger once pondered 'I wonder whether owners of yellow cars think that we live in a disproportionately violent world, because they are always seeing people thump each other whilst they are driving along?' Grin

It's a great game.

I am currently the laughing stick of the ward.

Yes, we played as kids. I'm sure there's an episode of the Simpsons where they play this too

PoloMintPatty · 05/04/2022 08:22

My kids do this!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/04/2022 08:23

@Toddlerteaplease
Never thought of this before but this might explain next doors cat's (TC) aggression. He's just playing 'Yellow car' with us.

Yellow cars, Is this a thing?

I will see if I get a result when I go out in my yellow car tomorrow, may do as it is school holidays, I have never heard of this before, I have been driving round oblivious.

canonlydoblue · 05/04/2022 08:27

Played this for years. If you punch when the car isn't actually yellow (appears yellow from a distance but green up close, etc) then you get a four punch forfeit! Since we've had kids we added to it with pink car pinch, tractor rubs and speaking in a funny voice for purples! Oh and counting to ten in a foreign language for orange!

cherrytreecottage · 05/04/2022 08:28

Yep, it's a thing! We did it as kids and although never played it with our teens, they've both started doing it - minus the punches Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 05/04/2022 08:29

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats you must be right!

I'm from london and we played yellow car although you used to shout YELLOW CAR and then punch your sibling in the arm 🙈

AutumnOrange · 05/04/2022 08:31

We played a red Mini version everyday on the drive to school 😀 Had totally forgotten!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/04/2022 08:32

DS's Godfather used to give his dc and any other child 50p every time they drove past a pink car.

We then moved house, and a house en route between Godfather and us had a pink car parked permanently in its driveway. He had to start shelling out quite considerably!

And yes, Yellow Car No Returns is definitely a thing

CharityShopChic · 05/04/2022 08:34

Yellow car no hit back.

My kids have been doing this for at least a year. Youngest tries to extend it to vans, lorries, people's coats...

Iwantitidontwantit · 05/04/2022 08:35

We call it Banana Car, but same principle. When my DD was small there were no punches, we just counted. Now she's a bit older, punches are definitely involved Grin

bassackwards · 05/04/2022 08:37

Where I'm from it's a VW Beetle (aka a bug). Upon seeing one you shout "punch buggy no punch-backs" and jab your mate in the shoulder 🤷‍♀️

Oldraver · 05/04/2022 08:42

I had never heard if this until a few years ago and I spent years driving a yellow car

Jcee · 05/04/2022 08:48

Not yellow cars, but used to do 'gas van no return' with my siblings on trips...definitely involved a punch

stripeyflowers · 05/04/2022 08:53

Never heard of that - if I see a yellow car I usually say 'why would you want a yellow car?Smile

Readyforspring · 05/04/2022 08:55

We did it as kids.. Oh the bruises :p

Auntieobem · 05/04/2022 08:57

Yep, yellow car, mini nip. Passing the mini garage always requires preparation.

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2022 08:57

We do that! South East. We don't pretend though!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 05/04/2022 08:58

Used to play it all the time on the school bus growing up and it was a punch not a pretend...
Now at 31, dh and I are in the middle of playing a long running game in the car.

Even ds has started shouting yellow car when he sees one, although we're keeping the hitting aspect out of it around him.

Gatekeeper · 05/04/2022 09:00

I'm 58 and Ive never heard of this!

AndAsIfByMagic · 05/04/2022 09:01

Of course.

SE13Mummy · 05/04/2022 09:03

VW Beetles are referred to as punch cars here; DCs punch one another when they spot one.
