Anthony Stewart Head is NOT dead (Mandela Effect)?

DH and I would have sworn blind that A.S.H (Giles from Buffy) died 5-or-so years ago... We were 100% sure.

Turns out. Totally alive.

The thing is, we both remember details of articles and online threads about how sad his death was...

Did anyone else think the same?

I also had a vague feeling he was dead. But obviously not. He seems to have been very absent since Buffy, which is a long time ago. I wonder if I felt he died during Buffy as he left the series?? No idea!

He has roughly 100 IMDB credits to his name since Buffy began in 1997 so not that absent…

AquaticSewingMachine · 25/07/2022 08:14

Er, yeah, maybe it's just because he's in two things I love (Cabin Pressure, Ted Lasso) and one I enjoyed (Bridgerton) but he's really not that obscure an actor, and he's always been in work...

TartanGirl1 · 25/07/2022 08:21

There was an internet hoax that he had died, you maybe saw that?

DavesSpareDeckChair · 25/07/2022 08:44

I never thought he was dead but I kept mixing him up with someone else. Not even another actor, but someone completely different!

ZenNudist · 25/07/2022 08:47

Just you. I'll definitely remember when Giles dies!

Mandela Effect?
Or, as we used to say in the olden days, "I made a mistake".

Yeah, this. People are endlessly fascinating. They mishear something, or misunderstand something, or don’t read something properly. But it can’t be as simple as that, no. The explanation must be that the world spun off its axis temporarily and that they were the subject of a delusion affecting only a small number of special people. Probably caused by aliens and only affecting people who don’t pay attention. Spooky! The truth is out there.

As for things people claim to have seen, or watched, as kids: there are many examples of adults ‘remembering’ flying when they were children, or meeting dinosaurs.

I’m glad that Tony Head remains alive. He is really good in Motherland!

The Mandela that is freaking me out at the moment is the statue of liberty Ellis Island one. Wtf

Please elaborate?

Florenz · 25/07/2022 11:41

I only recently found out that Anthony Head's brother is Murray Head of "One Night in Bangkok" fame.

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 25/07/2022 11:56

I know this is an old thread, but Ethan from Buffy (Robin Sachs) died in 2013? Could it be him OP?

Please elaborate?

I looked this up for fun. It was certainly funny.

Some conspiracy theorists have decided that the Statue of Liberty used to be on Ellis Island. It has always been on Liberty Island. But no matter, it can’t be as simple as people, er, getting it wrong, can it? No. The most logical explanation is that someone has been time travelling and has messed with the universe. Creating a new multiverse that the gullible people got trapped in for a bit. Great, innit?

Some people also swear that they went up to the torch in the statue with loads of other tourists, despite access to the torch having been withdrawn in 1916 or something.

wsllaw · 25/07/2022 17:23

Goodness apparently people don’t like seeing the weird magic in life sometimes. And no I didn’t ever hear about Robin Sachs RIP.

I am definitely glad Anthony Stewart Head is alive and well but it was just a weird occurrence to me. I don’t keep up much on British TV shows and have not watched anything that he’s been in so just a recipe for assuming someone’s dead I suppose.

I did see the hoax when I looked him up but that was only recently so it didn’t align with what I was talking about.

CountessOfSponheim · 25/07/2022 17:41

Could you (or other confused people) have vaguely heard a story about Gareth Hunt (who used to advertise Nescafé before ASH) dying and mentally attached the news to the wrong coffee guy?

KateMcCallister · 25/07/2022 18:21

@Iamthewombat whatttt! Ellis Island is where they registered migrants, it's completely separate! I've been there 😂

Thanks for clearing up, that's given me a giggle 😂

I thought Lech Walesa (Polish union man from the 80s) was dead until I googled him today and found out he is still alive.

I am surprised at Lech Walesa not being dead. I was sure I'd heard he died.
Although now I think about it, I might well have been mixing him up with Vaclav Havel, who Wiki tells me is actually dead.

Will0wtree · 25/07/2022 18:29

On the opposite side I once saw a TV personality on Waterloo Station. Came home that evening and told my son I'd seen him.
"But he's dead!"
"He most definitely isn't, I was a foot away from him this afternoon!"
We googled...he'd died several years before.

I hope I never get called on to pick someone out of a police line-up.

ChinBristles · 25/07/2022 19:14

Are you confusing him with Philip Seymour Hoffman?

Fluffygreenslippers · 25/07/2022 19:15

No I don’t remember that at all.,

sashh · 26/07/2022 01:46

Some conspiracy theorists have decided that the Statue of Liberty used to be on Ellis Island. It has always been on Liberty Island.

Pedant alert.

It started out in Paris, I don't mean the pieces, they assembled it in Paris before taking it down and shipping it.

For years I was sure Billy Idol had died, I was convinced I had watched a news report about it, got quite a shock when he popped up on breakfast news as a guest.

That is a first class piece of pedantry. I applaud it. I am waiting for another pedant to come along now and inform you that the copper from which the statue was wrought was probably mined in Chile or something, meaning that the statue really started out there if we’re pedanting to the max.

AquaticSewingMachine · 26/07/2022 09:23

But @Iamthewombat , that copper actually came from space.

😇👼

Thank you, I'm glad you approve.

The USA gave France another statue, they face each other, just with an ocean in between.

There are about half a dozen 'liberties' in Paris.

Hi there I know this is an old post but since watching Bridgerton last May, and seeing ASH on it I have been trying to find any info on this subject.
1000% I read article about him dying, the obituary. I watched alllll the interviews the Buffy cast did about how much they miss him when gearing up to do the reunion. Then when they did the reunion they made a special outro memorial for message for him. Out of all the Mandela affects, this one I seriously believe. I have been a Buffy super fan since I was a little girl (20+ years). It's completely bizarre to me that nobody else has this realization because there's a lot of Buffy fans out there??

Marmite27 · 12/02/2025 17:26

I don’t think that happened - because he’s not dead, not in the Buffy-verse, not in Bridgerton and not in real life Grin
