Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Boom! It was one of those words at the top of my tongue but guessed loads of random stuff before then ha!

78 is very impressive WallaWalla. For personal reasons I really should have got this one more quickly.

I solved Semantle #51 in 128 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.53. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #49. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 43.20 (919/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Thanks, he left at 8 so shouldn’t be too much longer. I’ll be so glad when she graduates, he won’t be doing this trip every other weekend then!

995 is my closest now after 178 guesses. May have to sleep on it and hope my subconscious dredges something up!

Ummm yes I have no idea what I'll do for the rest of my day now!

Can anyone please tell me if 869 is a helpful word, I’ve had 128 guesses since I got that and I’m getting nowhere.

Thought of the word when I found number 995 and didn't try it because I thought it wouldn't be it. 10 guesses later I tried it! Moral, try everything that pops into your head.

Things are quite crap at the moment and this is honestly a great distraction. My mum isn't well and she's very old school, so on occasion when I've asked her to help me with semantle she gets her encyclopedia or dusty thesaurus out, and as cringe as it sounds it's actually making us smile at a time when things are pretty grim. Now she will ask me how I'm getting on with "that game" and I'll dramatically rant over it or show off how well I've done.

Can I echo this? I've only been playing this game for five days but those 5 days have also been some of my worst - My dad is dying far too young, and now in his final days. I've played this, and studied these threads for clues, in the middle of the night while trying to calm him down, wait for meds to kick in etc. It is an awesome distraction.

(My night off from helping out, and I'm awake with DS who has a raging temperature...)

Can someone PM me the answe to yesterday please? I was a newbie and was unaware I could get the answer … also got a bit stuck and thought I’d come back but that didn’t happen. Trying to figure out how ‘close’ I got
