Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

That's about it! It sounds crap but can become addictive, especially when that elusive secret word is JUST out of reach.

Words on the green list can be antonyms as well as synonyms (as I found out yesterday).

Yes, but 'related'words rather than necessarily similar, until you get to very high numbers. For instance, yesterdays word was 'bold'; some of the 'green' words people got stuck on were eg 'fresh' and 'colourful' (think of adverts or descriptions of clothes where 'bold' might be used alongside those sorts of words). But they might also have had high ranking words such as 'cautious' which are more like opposites.

I gave up I know nothing about the subject, so a bit pointless for me to try. I looked at the word list afterwards and there's not a chance I'd have got it. I'll try again tomorrow, thanks guys!

Ugh, I got word 738 on guess 29 and seem to be getting further and further away with my most recent guess (which is number 42!) having a similarity of 2.19! Can anyone help me out with a word in the mid 800s?!

A clue in the mid 800s would be worthless

I'm thinking it'll just get my brain flowing again, without actually helping me out too much - I want the tiny satisfaction of getting it "all on my own" today, for some weird reason!

Perhaps it wouldn't be worthless, it might be the opposite in fact.

Ah I got today's in 55! had to give up yesterday as my highest guess was "foolish" and I couldn't seem to get past that.

Finally got a correct answer today! 23 guesses.

Started three days ago , got a bit stuck in cardiac anatomy as had aorta as top guess , took about 90 guesses.

Got stuck at 995 for quite a while but got there in the end. Had tons in the green today but struggled to get the final word for some reason.
